I'm actually the opposite. I preferred the more realistic direction that the reboot and later 5 took. I know a lot of people hate the reboot, but it is a very pretty game, and the art direction holds up today. I didn't think the realistic look would translate as well to 5 at first, but it honestly blew me away when I played the game through the first time. There are some scenes in 5 that I think just wouldn't be as impactful in the old art style. Scenes like Nero getting his arm brutally snapped off and left to pass out in a pool of his own blood, V getting weaker and literally beginning to break apart, lamenting his past mistakes as Vergil while he clings to life, Nero unlocking his full Devil Trigger and beating some sense into his squabbling uncle and father, I just can't see them working as well in the pseudo anime look of the older games. Details like Qliphoth victims turning to dust as you touch them, the roots infesting a gritty, ruined, abandoned city, makes it feel desolate and communicates to the player how dire the situation is, even for experienced devil hunters like Nero and Dante. Also, and I know this is petty, I just think the characters in 4 are a bit overdesigned. Too many belt buckles, buttons, chaps, zippers and other bells and whistles. They feel too flashy, if that makes sense. Like they were prioritizing the outfits looking cool over being practical to wear.

@@chrismilton3240 I don't get the restrictions on exceed but you don't restrict yourself from CS3 and Buster, both of which make the bosses just as trivial as Lvl3 exceed loops since they're really just walking giant meatbags even on DMD.

Bruh, if this was on human mode bosses would die in mere seconds. If this was on automatic, his sword would enter exceed automatically, not to mention pull off complex combos by masing the sword attack which doesn't happen in his fights here
