Finally decided to invest in an entry level drone; the DJI Mini 2 SE. This lightweight and compact drone definitely impressed me as a beginner and figured I'd take it for a quick evening fly over CSX's Waterville engine shops, a rather hard place to view for the public due to a lack of any bridges over the yard and abundance of trees blocking the view from the other side of the river.
These shops date far back to the Maine Central Railroad, Guilford/Pan Am's mighty predecessor and are continuing their job nearly two years into CSX's ownership of the territory for servicing the remaining MEC lettered former Pan Am units, as well as close to forty CSX EMD models, both four and six axle that have been coming up a few at a time over the last year and a half for storage, servicing and/or reactivation into service after being stored at other yards on the CSX system.
With the modern day CSX locomotive shops at Selkirk NY being close to 350 miles away, it is nice to see CSX hang on to this facility as the primary servicing shops for their locomotive fleet assigned to the New England Division.
Modern CSX GE Widecab units that have taken over virtually about everywhere else on the system have still remained a rare find in these parts east of Portland, so enjoy these classic EMD's!
