This is a video taken using my DJI Air2S of the area around Totland on the Isle of Wight.
The video shows the coastal path between Totland Bay and Colwell Bay, which was closed on 23rd February 2024 due to a Landslide on the 22nd February.
The video also shows Totland Pier which was rebuilt a couple of years ago, and is supposed to be opening as a Restuarant with Accommodation in 2025. You can also see the rebuilt cafe at the base of the pier which did reopen as a cafe, but has been closed for two years now. Better news with that though in that it is SUPPOSED to be opening again this year.
As the path has been closed for a while, I thought I would take the drone up to see just how bad the damage is. It's great to get some shots from the air as it gives a much better perspective of any damage.
It's a path that many people like walking along, so it is frustrating that it's remained closed for so long. Looking at the video, although the path is blocked, it wouldn't take much to actually move the mud and dirt to get the path reopened.
We are frequent visitors to Iceland where the councils and workmen are incredible, even moving red hot lava to reopen roads and infrastructure following volcano eruptions. The local council can't even get a little bit of mud moved :(
I really hope that the council gets this path reopened, particularly as Spring and Summer is fast approaching.
