I came up with an idea to store my sheet goods easily up at the ceiling, out of the way but it evolved into much more! More videos to come on this topic!

Super cool idea. I’ve got a 12 foot plate and while I don’t need the storage too much, I’m intrigued by sheetgood storage. Thanks for sharing.

Yea this set out to only be sheet good storage for me but got intrigued with some extras along the way!

Hi Justin - The attic space live load design requirement per the 2018 IBC is 10 psf for a clear space between rafter and joist (or top chord / bottom chord for trusses) < 42"; 20 psf for >/= 42". At 600#s for 32 sq ft the Auxx-Lift comes in at ~20 psf (have to add in the weight of the lift itself). Many older single story garages with a low pitch trussed roof won't be adequate and if one is already using the attic space for storage there won't be adequate capacity.

Hi Steve, thanks so much for the great calculations! That's why I mentioned it a few times and said they have installers in all state you can consult with to ensure you have an adequate load capability. Its always best to check with a professional if you're not 100% sure what you have and what it can do!

My shop is in the basement, so no way could I do this. But it's so cool......I almost want to move out to the garage and have my whole shop descend from the ceiling with a remote control. Ill have to relocate some day.....so thanks for sharing. If I end up in a garage for my next space, this is totally what I would do. Anxious to see your next vid with possibilities.

Thanks! Yeah, I have a ton of ideas for it, if I wasn’t intent on keeping the lower space for she good storage, it could totally have a small table saw inset into it, dog holes, t-track, I think I’m gonna do a lathe station, metal chop, spinal sander and pocket hole station with some sort of combined dust collection system in the middle, so I only have to hook up my hose to one port, but we’ll see what the final verdict is!

Why not use some latches to pull it tight to the assembly table, and it will be much more stable for working on
@BitnerBuilt
@BitnerBuilt 5 ай бұрын
Good idea! I’m actually gonna work on either some folding legs that come down off the unit or a sawhorse style platform for it to model somebody who doesn’t have a giant assembly table like me could have it come down and be pretty stable on the floor

Great timing doing a sled above my table saw in a tight working shop. Lossing Radial arm saw for a laser in 2024, so hoping the sled will take the place of my radial arm saw duties and have the space for the laser! My shop's in the basement great climate control but out of room, clear floor space over 35 yrs of shopping! Nice topic, you really got some demo work done being sick! Hope your feeling better after the excitement of regaining shop options! : )

Ugg it’s one of those endless chest colds but when you get an exciting new toy you can’t keep me down 😅 filmed over a week though in small increments. Ooo have fun with the sled, that’s a high priority on my list!

Definitely lucky! When I built the house, it was super cheap to have the ceiling higher, same with my basement, they were super worthwhile upgrades

Hey Justin, I like your KZfaq channel a lot. I really like your Longmill enclosure, do you have a video of you building it?? Do you have a file or plans on building available to download or print?? I'm just looking into buying it Longmill this summer and would love to build my own. the fact that is all one unit on wheels is the best thing about!! Keep up all your good work and thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.

Looking forward to this series. BUT- let’s talk dust collection. Requesting a video recapping your setup. I have the same blue drum with a cyclone but it’s not efficient. Vacuum also sucks the side walls in.
@BitnerBuilt
@BitnerBuilt 5 ай бұрын
I am going to be ripping it all out and for some more quality equipment soon and will make a video on it, I will review the old setup in that as well. The drum I used never collapsed and I overall still had good suction at the end of my runs, the table saw was the weakest though so I wanted something better. My drum was for transporting juice so possibly it had thicker walls?

Add fold down legs or bolt legs
@BitnerBuilt
@BitnerBuilt 5 ай бұрын
I’m going to play with that as well as a saw horse setup. One thing someone pointed out is I need to watch my weight so if I bolt on legs I want sturdy but light
@rodpotts2666
@rodpotts2666 5 ай бұрын
could probably add some fold down legs to it as well.
@BitnerBuilt
@BitnerBuilt 5 ай бұрын
Yeah, I’m experimenting with that right now, I want to make sure that it’s as stable as possible so trying to decide if they need to be attached to each other with some sort of brace, sawhorses that have the cut out on the right, and left sides for a 2 x 4 to connect them, I’m going to try mounting the 2 x 4 permanently underneath the lift and then wanted to send have it sit on the sawhorses with the two by fours interlocking

Great job so far! I do have a question. When drilling in the steel, how did you get the cutting oil to stay put on the vertical surface? I haven't really used it much, & only horizontally, and am curious. Looking forward to Part 2. Have a great day!

Nice solution. I don't have the headroom in my basement shop (7' ceiling), nor the ability in my garage to mount such a device and I've been struggling with finding a solution for 4x8' sheet good storage. It has to stay out in the garage standing against a wall to be cut down before I can take it down into the basement. Still looking for some method. ;)

What is your suggestion for a shop not in a conditions space. I would love to set up and store tools in my shed. Would that effect my tools in anyway? Is rust a concern during extreme cold or heat?? Can't find much on that topic... TIA! Great videos as usual.
@BitnerBuilt
@BitnerBuilt 5 ай бұрын
Hi Danny, here’s my best thoughts on it as I haven’t done it myself, more than the heat or cold, the humidity is the big one, too much moisture in there and everything’s going to rust surprisingly quickly, I run a dehumidifier and humidifier in my shop based on the season. You would most likely only need the dehumidifier in that space and I would always just run it, just hose it out the side of the shed. Otherwise the only other thing your going to encounter is the expansion and contraction of wood in the space, so things like a miter station, might warp or go above the saw over time so I would make sure the saw sits high. Also extreme temp changes will probably be hard on some belts or gaskets, might make them brittle / crack. But overall I’m sure you will be fine. I am actually installing a mini split this week in my shop, surprisingly cheap for some diy install and that has air and heat. Another thing maybe to think of is some solar with batteries, one time purchase for some mild heat / air capability (think rv ac unit) but might keep it from crazy temp swings and the suns free.
