Here's our unboxing of the AeroGarden Harvest, where I set up the Harvest Elite and show you how the gourmet herb plants progressed at 10 days and again at 30 days. We’ll show you 1 month of growth with the herb kit and cover the mistakes we made setting up the Aerogarden... so you avoid them!

-----------------------------------------------------
We live in a small new york city apartment with a tiny kitchen and no outdoor space... but we've always wanted to have a garden to grow our own food. So when we heard about AeroGarden and hydroponic gardening indoors, we had to try it!
Aerogarden sells small indoor garden kits that can grow herbs, vegetables and flowers on a small kitchen counter. The Harvest model allows you to grow 6 plants easily and hassle free. Best of all, they’re organic, non GMO plants.
We have the copper Harvest Elite model and the gourmet herbs kit, which included Thai Basil, Genovese Basil, Thyme, Curly Parsley and Dill.
Fresh herbs all year round, even in the dead of winter? Yes please!
Aerogarden has plenty of other seed kit options, including tomatoes, peppers, salad greens, flowers and other heirloom vegetables. All of the Aerogarden seeds are non GMO, without herbicides or pesticides which is what attracted me to the company.
Even better, the Aerogarden uses hydroponics, so the plants grow in water. No soil and no mess! The Harvest model even has a “travel” setting the plants can sustain themselves if you have a short trip.
So far just one month in, we love the Aerogarden and have made pesto, Thai basil fried rice and fresh minty mojitos.
But we also had some busts.
Two of the plants failed to sprout and grow, so we learned some trouble shooting tips and tricks for caring for the AeroGarden. Watch until the end so you know how to set up the Aerogarden properly and avoid our mistakes! 🙂

Submerge the pods in water, let all the air bubbles out of the sponge, before placing in Aerogarden. This will increase your germination percentage greatly.

What a fantastic video. I have a couple of the Areogarden's like the one you own. Going on day 110. I'm growing 6 Basil in one & in the other 6 Cherry Tomatoes. Basil grows like a weed, I love that. Unfortunately we only harvested 3 cherry tomatoes thus far, disappointing. I do want to thank about your suggestion about trimming the root system. I don't remember reading anything about that. I hate to see what a tangle web that resides below in my 110 days of growth. Thanks Again! :) Toby

The basil will grow and start to make seeds. Pick the basil head after its seeded. Dry and ready to replant. Dill, well it grows leaves and can grow dill seeds for pickling mixes. Plant a separate flat bowl will fine aquariums stones and whole heads of garlic. Great tasting green, snips for salads etc... LLP try garlic greens and parsley to make a great pesto combo. @SherSheGoes

You can definitely cut off a branch and re propogate it. But it doesn’t really make sense to put it in the empty pod, because the other plants are grown. The new plant wouldn’t get enough access to the grow lights

Oh, you probably know this, but JIC, with basil, never let them go to seed where the top has the beginning of a flower. Pinch that off because it makes the plant last a lot longer. Once it goes to seed (flower), it stops growing well or at all most cases.

You can cut all your plants down to 4 leaves and they will grow back. Cutting stimulates growth. The plants love it. It's also best to never let your plants go to seed it'll make your plant bitter tasting.

No noise at all! The plants eventually grow so tall that you might want to repot them.. im thinking of doing this soon now that i'm about 6 months in, so that i can free up the aerogarden to plant other things. As for the machine itself, they recommend that you replace the lights bc they lose their strength / intensity over time.

Which aero garden are you using? I'm brand new to aerogardens and I'm a disabled senior citizen who can't afford to buy produce. Most if my food comes from food pantry so not a lot ofnfresh veggies. I want to try aerogarden for romaine lettuce and cherry tomatos and and some herbs and some hot peppers or baby bell peppers. I could use a knowledgeable aero gardener to hold my hand and help me through this process.

using the Harvest model. i linked the exact one in the description box, as well as a blog post i wrote that has a ton more info! yes - lettuce, cherry tomatoes, herbs, small peppers are all totally doable in the aerogarden units!! :)

Is the harvest sufficient as a daily vegetable? It seems the whole crop is for one or two-time use ?! and if we harvest for the first time, how long does it take to grow again? Do we need to add nutrition?
@SherSheGoes
@SherSheGoes 2 жыл бұрын
Herbs + lettuce will continue to grow after your harvest. Same w hot peppers + cherry tomatoes. The time it takes for things to regrow varies! Sometimes 2 days.. sometimes 2 weeks. Depends on plant + your care

Not to brag, or nothing (here comes the brag)I got the cherry tomatoes to germinate in FOUR days (instead of seven to ten listed on the pods. I set the Aerogarden on a heating pad set to low. Tomato seedlings love heat. But yeah the dill didn't germinate for me either.

My 2 curly parsley and my thyme never germinated. My two AeroGardens live on top of my dryer in the laundry room which also has a window. My cherry tomatoes went outside as did the jalapeños and did fairly well. Flowers sure didn’t grow like their snapdragons did.No comparison to my tiny ones. You U tube Thai Basil much huger than my Thai leaves. Ah trimming roots- that must be my problem.

Usually I prune as I use it. If I need to trim a bunch at once, I’ll put it in one of these contraptions in the fridge: amzn.to/30ThqHJ it preserves them as fresh herbs for a long time You can also chop up the herbs into an ice cube tray, pour in oil and freeze as little cubes

Freeze or dehydrate imo. I’ve used inexpensive brown paper lunch bags to dry regular super bountiful potted herbs (last two summers) with no issues. Just strip the leaves off and toss into paper bag. Let dry naturally. Then you can grind them up and make fresh spices or even add to oil for herb infused oils. Hope that helps!

Myth. There’s really no noticeable change in electric bill. Besides, have you looked at your actual utility bill? 80% of my bill is fixed costs independent of usage. At 11 cents/kw hour running the Harvest for a month would be ~$1. Cant get a single herb for that cheap, much less a month’s worth
