Here's some video of a beautiful 1978 Aerospatiale SA 315B Lama N315NA S/N 2506 that I shot at Whiteman Airport in California.
Engine Manufacturer TURBOMECA
Engine Model ARTOUSTEIIIB1
Info listed below is From Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A%C3%A9...
The Aérospatiale SA 315B Lama is a French single-engined helicopter developed to meet hot and high operational requirements of the Indian Armed Forces. It combines the lighter Aérospatiale Alouette II airframe with Alouette III components and powerplant. The Lama possesses exceptional high altitude performance; on 21 June 1972, the type established a helicopter absolute altitude record of 12,442 m (40,814 ft), a record which remained unbroken as of July 2017.
The helicopters have been built under licence by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) in India, known as the Cheetah; HAL later developed an upgraded variant, powered by the Turbomeca TM 333-2M2 engine, which is known as the Cheetal. An armed version, marketed as the Lancer, was also produced by HAL. It was also built under licence by Helibras in Brazil as the Gavião.

I rode in one of these everyday, rain or shine, exploration drilling for Platinum and platinum group metals in the Beartooth Mountains,MT. in 1980. Bozeman Helicopters owned it. A great ride. This thing was used for personnel and hauling the drill rig in pieces and all other supplies. I think the highest elevation we were at at one time was 8000 ft. This chopper had balls. Loud and powerful for sure.

I was a mechanic for Rocky Mountain Helicopters (Provo UT) in the 90's. I really enjoyed working on these Helo's watching them work. Most of the pilots I worked with were ex Vietnam pilots and were extremely talented. Could put the hook at the end of a 100' long line in your hand while you stood still on the ground. Had a ton of fun doing this work.

The Lama is like a Bell 47 but on "ROIDS" man. It was initially built by Aerospatiale (Eurocopter/Airbus Helicopters) for the Indian Army as an armed and unarmed scout chopper to patrol the mountainous border of Pakistan. But air services in Italy, Spain and Switzerland bought it because it could fly at very high and hot altitudes. A great performer in the mountains man!!!It is a gas guzzler though about 60 gallons of jet-a an hour and very expensive to maintain. Man, I'd love to fly one!!!!!

I like the Vid description.. You know your shit with this particular make and model.. Breath of fresh air compared to usually reading "Helicopter starts and takes off" A little bit more Info, this particular airframe, or the series of them., we're NOTORIOUS for ground resonance accidents. I think one was filmed on a TV show, can't remember which one, in the 80s. But the pilot took back off on time. It was all filmed and you can see it happen in the background.

A gallon a minute and a lot of grease points on the rotor blades every time we refuel a 44 gallon drum and canvas seats , a great work horse able to lift a ton , the boom was full of some kind of gas and had a gauge at the back to check for any leaking as that would indicate a cracked boom as that boom does a lot of work when lifting.

@@EdWhisenantAviation Hi Ed. Didn't mean to offend, it was my spontaneous reaction. I only viewed it as an aside to something I was googling. I used to be interested in planes as a kid back in the sixties, so I was looking at a few videos. I'm happy that guys out there wanna see the whole process. Great stuff.

Am besten benutzt man sie möglichst selten. Teuer in der Wartung!Beim Bell 206 ist die Rotorbremse eigentlich auch überflüssig. Wartungsintensiv und bei der übrigen Wartung nur im Weg...
