The Albetros is a reference to a poem called the Rhyme of the Ancient mariner, in it the Mariner kills the bird of good Omen , and his ship mates hang it around his neck in the hope that the bad luck will target only him. His crime is his fault and his burden to carry, but that's not how life and death work. also Aesop locked him self away in a cabin in the woods and wrote this album. He captured himself. He walked away from the industry because he cares about hip-hop. If you have the chance check out his project album - The Uncluded's album called Hockey Fight.

While I think that's a small part of what he's trying to say; I also think he's trying to portray how cynical he can be at times. A lot of TIK is him poking fun at himself, and admitting fault. While he probably actually feels that way from time to time...I still think he's speaking from a specific perspective of himself. TIK is full of introspection on his part.

That albatross line is in reference to “The rime of the ancient mariner” where albatross are considered sacred, seen as reincarnations of lost sailors souls. a captain kills one on a voyage and the crew forces him to wear it around his neck as punishment. Similar to the mark of Cain in some ways. Very simply it refers to a personal burden

Thank you for being one of the few that actually sees Aesop for what he is and reviews him the way I see him. I believe him to be a form of genius. I have been really shocked by the lack of love he gets. That man is a rare gem that can only be worn by those in the know. Simple minds can't digest him.

Dude, I could watch you break down Aesop's work all day. You take the time to comprehend and extend it to those who don't. I hope to see you do all of it in time. Thanks for caring, see ya there ; )

When Aesop was touring for that album, that song was one of the most memorable in the set. At the end of the chorus line, "Party over here, I'll be over there", every time, he'd ask the crowd who's coming with him. Both he and the listeners knew who it was that he wasn't about, who was being called out, and knew that crowd in front of him was full of his people. It was a scene that understood, even at a minimum, what he was speaking on.

Dude I LOVE every choice I’ve since you pick for your series. And since I have such a similar taste, it makes me wonder how you manage to be such a grounded, stoic, reserved and self-mastered kind of guy! It’s cool to see a dude like yourself have such an appreciation for some pretty wild art, and also having the kind of pop culture and historical knowledge to deconstruct it. I say this only because I rarely come across any company at all to have those conversations on the level and when I do, it’s usually with at least a 50% basket case or in the very least, far from “neuro-typical” That includes myself. Keep doing your thing. You got a huge fan here!

I have actually played Aesop Rock on the radio in Shanghai China back in early 2000's , a few of his songs Daylight, Save Yourself. I remember it was with some Jedi Mind Tricks, De La Soul, Atmosphere, Redman, Wu Tang, Blackalicious good hip hop. We actually have a club in Shanghai called Shelter that has been around for over a decade now where real hip hop lives.

Aes's videos from Skeleton, Impossible Kid, and Spirit World Field Guide tell a narrative of Aes doing risky shit, going off-grid to avoid it, dying (ironically by accident), and returning to life ascended. Spirit World Field Guide is the message he brings back.
