Btw, the story behind the MV is that SYNK is what they call their operating system and then the Black Mamba is the virus that corrupts their whole virtual reality system. Their avatar versions of themselves are the only ones who can save their system from data corruption that is caused by the black mamba(virus).

Jrekml, SM is launching their SMCU (SM Culture Universe) inspired by Marvel Cinematic Universe. Each Artists Comeback will stand alone containing stories much like to Iron Man or SpiderMan solo but will be connected to one whole big story line like Avengers. So each Artists MV will be interconnected to each other. So as you see, there is a Post Credit Scene much like similar to MCU so it means the MV storyline will be carried by BOA next when she comesback

@@TheTHEPARTYROCKER101 SM never copied KDA. KDA is not original anyway, they're copied from Vocaloid. The concept may be similar but you're stretching with the 'straight ripping off'. KDA are game characters from LOL just voiced by some kpop idols, but they don't represent them. Aespa are real K-pop idols with AI counterparts, SM first had this with SNSD Blade and Soul.

that scene with karina and yoonju " the black mamba" (a model in Korea, from esteem label from sm) hints that karina is now in control by black mamba. This is the start of their story line. maybe winter, giselle and ningning will save karina from the black mamba (?)

KWANGYA's literal meaning in Korean (광야) is "wilderness", if anyone's curious. And SM really went Marvel-y on this one. The Black Mamba (snake) is a villain. In their press release, it's supposedly the one preventing the human members from connecting with their "ae" (the AI members). They will probably continue the story in the next MVs. Only ae-Karina appeared here. Another cool thing, the AE in AESPA was said to mean "avatar x experience" in their official press release. But they keep referring to the AIs as their "ae" and in Korean that means either "kid" or in the case of 최애 (chwe-ae), it means "bias" haha. They also call their friends 애들 (ae-deul). What's even cooler is that the Hanja 愛 (ae/애) actually means "love". I don't know if SM planned that though because they spell AESPA in Korean as 에스파 not 애스파.

Since last night, I have been reading comments and in a nutshell, many liked the song, but there are also a lot who find this song lacking. Here are my theories. Now, I advise you to take hese with a grain of salt as these are my opinions. - Well, SM is simply known for having a wide discography; their artists' arrays of tracks are impeccable. We also got used to expecting them to release out-of-the-box concepts and music. Now, everyone pointed out that the song was too generic, seems like SM is holding back a bit. Actually, kinda agree with that, but is that a bad thing? No! For one, since SM is known to do everything quirky qnd unfamiliar, maybe Black Mamba is released to break our familiarity to their musical pattern. We got used to them releasing experimental songs, and this one came. Another thing, this has a storyline, so it makes sense that the song might feel like it is lacking to other people because it kinda is for there's something more to come that will connect to it. - A lot of people also pointed out that they didn't get the song and it's quite over the place. For me, it is intentional again. This is the charm of the Black Mamba. The snake in this song serves as the one who tries to distort everything that is used to be connected and it makes them uncoordinated and confusing. Just like how a human or an animal reacts when bitten by a venomous snake, the organs start to malfunction and lose their coordination with the rest of their organs. As you may have observed the look of the set got darker at the second chorus after the dark scene of Karina. That was when the Black Mamba started to attack. Now, given this idea, it may sound generic but it is definitely not although don't quote me on this. - I also feel like this is SM strategy to draw more people to them. I mean, a group with a impactful debut would draw more people. Their debut really had an impact, but not in the way it usually should have been. Come to think of it, since SM does quirky stuff, from small to large details consistently, maybe the reactions towards this song is signaling that SM successfully reached their goal for this song, they make people confused while enjoying it, still enough for them to look out for aespa in the future. And based on the comments I've read, I feel like this is the path SM is currently taking, at least for now. What do you think? Edit: Well, the GP loves aespa and Black Mamba. It is charting until now, and is now one of the two 2020 Rookie Groups with the most streams on MelOn (9 Million) along with Cravity who debuted earlier this year and the only 2020 Rookie with more than half a million Unique Listeners on the same platform. aespa has the most monthly listeners among all the 2020 Rookies on Spotify and Black Mamba has the most streams on the same platform. aespa is also only the only 2020 Rookie to be #1 at QQ Music Charts in China for three consecutive weeks. There are a lot of records made and broke left to right, which means, this generic song immediately caught the attention of the GP.

I too feel like sm has a lot in stores for aespa and this is just the beginning and it does feels like sm is holding out a bit.

People are always like this. When EXO debuted, they keep calling SM couldn't move on with SMP concept that's already old school. And then RV debuted, they keep calling SM was too experimental, the song is weird bla bla bla. NCT debuted and calling it's not SM, the song is bad, SM lost their touch bla bla bla. But years later they keep calling SM' s debut were iconic. They never learn 🤣

One can easily recover from the bite of black mamba if proper precautions and medications are taken. Where the fangs and venom of snakes that come in top 10 are way more toxic. Especially Cobra which has neurotoxic venom which means it heavily attacks your nervous system and the brain.

I really don’t get why people are so judgmental when it comes to them the AI isn’t even really part of them, as you can see in the MV they aren’t the main focus in any way it’s just promo for SMs new App where fans will be able to interact with avatars so ITS NOT GOING TO BE A VIRTUAL GROUP!!! Yeah, I think that a majority of people know by now that a group's debut "concept" never really continues for very long anyway...like EXO's concept used to be their various elemental powers but that never became super important or defined who they were. People will forget the AI thing after a while unless AESPA ends up using it a lot

I know this might not be everyone's cup of tea but I LOVED THIS DEBUT! The song was great but tbh IMO debut songs have never been great or awesome aside from ITZYs and Twices and I'm not even a fan of either. Debut songs from SM are usually iconic tho. Take a look at Replay, Into The New World and The 7th Sense, all revolutionary. But I think even tho aespa's debut does not really hold to that standard previous SM groups set, they still had a good enough debut that got people interested in them.

Also, SM will be doing SMCU (SM Culture Universe) which was like Marvel's Cinematic Universe where their groups and artists will be connected with each other. Storylines will be made too. (ex. some Aespa teaser was seen in NCT Make A Wish MV and also in SuperM's One MV, while here you can see BoA in the end)

Aespa means Avatar x Experience plus the word 'aspect'. It's about two sides like meeting another self and experiencing a new world (a virtual world?). The members are Karina (korean, the leader), Winter (korean) Giselle (japanese-korean, also our english speaker No. 1 in the group) and NingNing (maknae, chinese, previously known from SM Rookies). :)
