i love this focus mode for sports and wildlife. Thats why I use my a6400 a lot and my a7iii doesn't see much action.

no Touch Shutter in the A9, and I notice that the touch focus is not so obvious indeed it would seem not to activate at best ... surely move the point of AF and then push the shutter button (combined with the focus) is desamente excellent ... instead I think amazing the function of having the central button (you could also choose other) with the hooking to the subject so having pressed the shutter button in wide mode (or the others) and at the same time the central button switches to AF tracking mode.

Any idea if this tracking feature will be enabled with a firmware upgrade for a7iii and a7riii?

Hello, I own a Sony a7RIV camera. I usually shoot when Metering Mode is "Spot" and when Spot Metering is "Focus Point Link". My problem is that when I select Focus Area = Tracking Expand Spot, the light measurement does not track the focal point. Is there a way to deal with this problem? I would appreciate your answer. I am very new to Sony and my A9 just over a week (an ex Nikon D500 user) been looking at several of your videos trying to setup my A9 for birds and BIF. The thing is you have so many fantastic videos (it’s like being a kid in a candy store) I’m getting lost as to which videos and in which order I should follow to setup my camera for BIF and general birding. Hi Mark, amazing content as per. Mate, just a question regarding a purchase, if I may. I own a a7s2, and a7r3 and I'm adding a third body to my kit. I'm torn between another a7r3 and an a9. I generally do landscapes, environmental portraits, some wildlife, but I'm wondering if I shied away from fast action, just because I haven't had an a9. I love the fact that with another a7r3, i will have the exact same colour science, whether it's photo or video, but at the same time, silent shooting and no blackout along with obviously superior AF, but I know you've spend significant time with both, so which would you recommend in your opinions? Dear, I would like to ask You a question…. I have a Sony camera A7R3- system-version 3.10 and I would like to ask you if the following is possible with this camera with a Sony 85mm F1.8 lens and aperture maybe set on F 5.6. I would like to make a timelapse/interval shooting, let’s say every 3 seconds a shot over a period of 30 seconds (10 shots in total) with myself in the picture walking towards the camera itself on tripod….. with eye-autofocus ON and real time tracking ON… and nobody pressing any button on the camera except myself pressing start and running towards my startpoint … I start walking at 25 meter distance… walk slowly towards the camera and looking into the lens…. After 30 seconds I’ll be at 1 meter distance away in front of the camera….. I’ll be happy with maybe 5 or 6 sharp pictures…. Of the total 10 pics…. I am trying but donot succeed… I cannot find the right settings …. I presume that my 6-year old Sony A7R3 cannot do this…. But…which Sony camera could do this? Maybe the Sony A7R4 or A7R5 or A7CR or… none these… ??? Do I have to switch brands? I try to find answers on the web… but I find nothing in clear detail about this item… Please advise me! It would be extremely helpful if you could advise exactly which camera you are using when giving examples for setup in menu. My a7R iv menu looks nothing like your examples. Please designate which camera you're using in future, as the menus for different alphas are not the same.

I have Sony Alpha A 99 II its tracking subject but does not lock on !I do not understand why not locking on like on the video with the green square . My settings are : AF-C - lock flexible spot on and nothing .

Great video as always Mark.... I've encounter a problem using my A7RIV with the 85mm GM.... I have AF-C selected, touch functionalities on, touch to track on yet on photo and video mode only sometimes tracking on the focus area appears greyed out. Could it be because of the f/1.4 aperture on the GM lens? Any other cause you may think? Thank you and really love your work

Hi Mark. I have a Sony A9 and have tried to set this up on my camera but everytime I set the focus point off centre as soon as I press the Focus Standard button it just sends the focus point back to the centre. What am I doing wrong please.

I don’t have a ‘Func. Of Touch Operation’ menu on any page. It’s driving me crazy trying to figure out tracking. I do have the option on as well as the menu set to ‘touch panel and pad’ with continuous autofocus ‘on’, but I don’t see any tracking options anywhere - they don’t appear in focus modes either.... just regular focus modes as well as the same modes with af. No tracking options there. Is there something else I should be looking at?

Mark I am a bif fan of your videos. I was wondering you you could help me with setting up my Sony A1 and Sony a9 classic for video tracking of high speed animal and birds in flight sequences (S&Q mode if possible). I am thinking an osprey diving or a cheetah hunting... For video tracking is touch tracking the only way to set it up or is there a way I can use a custom button and the joystick to set up and track a fast moving subject? Hi Mark, Thanks for the video. Quick question: If you keep AF-ON pressed while burst shooting I would assume the camera will keep trying to have a lock. Does it happen the same with focus on the shutter release button? I mean, after you fully press the shutter release, if the focus function is in the button, will the camera try to keep focus as well? I'm a very new photographer and bought the A6400 a couple of months ago, specifically for pet photography, but didn't realise that you couldn't have tracking on with animal face detection selected. What would be the best focus settings for me to use for portrait and action pet photography?

Why is your F also changing from F2 to F1,8? How do you keep it as you want it, for instance just F2? Shooting Manual Mode should give us full control of the settings.

I have an older NEX6 and looking to upgrade to an APSC IBIS model. I don’t need the bigger grip and battery (have several spares) and I’m a stills only guy. How much better is the a6600 vs the 6500 for autofocus? Mainly photos of dogs, kids and landscapes. If they’re similar enough I’d probably grab the 6500 unless there’s a significant reason. What do you suggest?

Great video! I would like to buy a Sony Alfa. But I´m a bit confused about focusing. I need a AF Tracking touching the screen. I work in events and I need to touch the screen to select one face (there will be a lot of faces in the frame) and follow it. Only for photographs, not video. Is this AF tracking via touching the screen available in A9 for photographs? Thank you!

When you are trying to set tracking as you mentioned in your video, but every time I move the flexible spot "off center" but then, when I push the button in the center of the wheel, it goes back to center straight away. I have a similar option ( I think ) the last one on the bottom on my A7Riii but it says that I can't select it if I'm recording in manual exposition mode, is it the same on a6400?

When I use the eye AF I don’t need to enable the tracking mode right? It’s just for tracking things the eye AF does not recognise, correct? I’m using the A7s III.

I've just bought the A7rIV and shoot motocross and I'm not happy at all with the tracking. It struggles to even pick up the bike and if it does the focus is terrible and that's with a 70-200mm 2.8 GM. On my A7III with the locked on - wide it was perfect.

What could be done with AF tracking for birds in flight. (Eagles). The tracking is always hitting the wing and body of bird. Eyes are almost never sharp. Using A9 with 400mm 2.8 GM

Every now and then i accidentally end up on one of these videos from Mark. It causes my eye to start twitching and i get the desire to shoot myself or others or myself and then others. This guy needs to look up smile in the dictionary and when you type "boring person" or "monotonous voice" his picture comes up in google. Try it if you dont beleive me...
