Love your videos Mark! Recently switched over from Canon and I’m not looking back. I picked up an A7C2 and an AR7V. I’m having a hard time figuring out why when I use spot focusing in the A7C2 it tracks. It does not do that on my A7RV. Any clarity you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
@AlphaCreativeSkills
@AlphaCreativeSkills Күн бұрын
There are two types of spot options in the AF Area when using AF-C - those with tracking (selected from the menu that runs horizontally) and those without (from the genius that run vertically). You would also need to disable Subject recognition of you don't want any tracking and/or switch to the AF-S focus mode. I recommend downloading my 600-page eBook for your camera from my Patreon.com/markgaler support channel and for full support and guidance (personal support) consider joining in the Premium Plus tier.

I have watched several videos that explain the reason for this option as applied to video, for example properly exposing light to dark skin tone values. Thanks!

Just a quick thing about your Portrait Mode Color Space Suggestion. The Color Space Setting should only apply for the JPEG, but not for the RAW, as you are defining the color space you are working on, in the post production. At least if I am not totally wrong here.

Im going to chose between the 15mm f1.4 and the Sigma 10-18mm f2.8 it is a hard choice, do i really need the extra f1.4 ummm? lol I want the lightest lens possible but with a good or decent aperture for travel, landscape and street photography with occasional portrait and im only bringing 1 lens with me im not sure what is the best. It is hard to take portrait with wide angle lens but i have no choice if i only want to bring 1 lens with me.

Thank you a great informative movie. What are the downsides to buying the 100-400 today in 2024? What are your thoughts to an upgrade on this lens by Sony?
@AlphaCreativeSkills
@AlphaCreativeSkills 6 күн бұрын
Sony have primarily been upgrading older GM lenses so they can keep up with the sports cameras Sony have been releasing (A9, A9II, A9III and A1). The 100-400 was released on the same day as the A9 and can still keep up with the A9III. Sony may update this lens one day but there may be no urgency as the 100-400 is already performing well. The 85 F1.4 is the last GM lens that predates the A9 that will need to be updated. I am now using Sony's 300mm F2.8 GM more than my 100-400 because of the wider aperture.

Another great video. This lens is my plan but went with the FE 24-50/2.8 G first since it was a bigger size and weight savings of my GM II 24-70 and GM II 16-35. These are all planned for my A7CR travel kit. Your videos are always so comprehensive and are best in class. Only feature I’d like to see Sony adopt is complete internal zoom like the Sigma 16-28/2.8 I bought for my A7C and still have until I get this lens. Take care.

Well it’s a few months later and I’ve taken delivery of the new FE 24-50/2.8 G and will probably add the 16-25/2.8 G at some point but still have my Sigma 16-28/2.8 DG DN for now. While I have the three small G primes at 24, 40, and 50 I will be selling these. So I need a fast prime at 35 or 40mm that is f/2 or f/1.8 but I want it to have excellent quality like these G zooms. Any suggestions? There are none yet with the updated design approach. Like the 20/1.8 G. I do have the 35/1.8 and 55/1.8 but wish we would get a G update to pair with these zooms. Anything planned from Sony? Hope so. All of these are to use on my pair of A7CR and A7CII bodies which I really enjoy. Take care.

No other photographer shows so many stunning photos of people during lens reviews, others can shoot crap and measure sharpness and CA levels, or show us "see how I drink coffee" shots. I used the 20-70 for most of my portraits in India but it is always useful caring a wide aperture prime in my camera bag - especially one as small as this Sigma 90mm. My only wish is that other companies would try to match the size and weight of this prime. Not all telephoto primes need to be F1.8 and wider.

@Mark Great review! But one major thing. Can you PLEASE ask your Sony contacts to add the following to their Firmware Roadmap: EFCS "fake shutter" sound on/off. Example: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b7likpSkzrTVlok.html. Other camera manufacturers allow you to do this in the menu so there should be no reason they cannot address this. And for a street/ candid photographer this is absolutely critical as the Electronic Shutter on 7CII & 7CR is unusable in many situations (banding, rolling shutter etc). For the moment I guess duck-tape will do it. Thanks, Mark and looking forward to more future reviews.
@AlphaCreativeSkills

I am not hearing a difference with the speaker covered with my Camera Settings installed. It's also worth noting the shutter in the A6700 is different to the one that appears in the A7CII and A7CR cameras in that you can switch EFCS off in the A6700. I will try to track down what settings this guy had to make an audible difference. Full technical support, however, is available on my Patreon.com/markgaler support channel.
@halvorevensen1840
@halvorevensen1840 17 күн бұрын
@@AlphaCreativeSkills thanks Mark. If I cover the two speakers like demonstrated in the video on my A7CR there is a big difference. It is like it’s no longer amplifying the EFCS sound/ confirmation that the picture is taken vs when covered it actually sounds like a mechanical shutter and less noticeable in operation. While it never will be as quiet as my A1 the difference were less noticeable side by side. This shouldn’t be a complicated request for Sony as other camera manufacturers allow to disable EFCS sound as it’s mostly there to confirm an operation/ meaning picture taken. And yes you are correct it will never be an a6700 where you can turn efcs off as this line of cameras only comes with efcs. But many efcs-only cameras still allow you to disable the sound of it. Anyways keep me posted and cheers from Norway!
@AlphaCreativeSkills
@AlphaCreativeSkills 17 күн бұрын
Thanks for your input - I think there is a slight volume difference but I don't believe there is any 'Fake' shutter sound being muffled by doing this. The speaker port is just a window to the sounds emanating from deep inside the camera. There is is simply no reason for Sony to add a fake shutter sound, and if there was it would be a feature that could be implemented when the electronic shutter is being used (which it can't). I therefore believe that no firmware update can change the sound of this camera shooting. We are basically 'stuck' with it. I have owned Nikon DSLRs with much louder shutter sounds than I hear coming from my A7C cameras.
