Enve is well known for its high-quality wheelsets with US-built carbon rims. With the Foundation range it has managed to pack a lot of the tech from the top-end wheels into a much more affordable package. We spoke to ENVE's Neil Shirley about the range, which includes road, gravel and mountain bike wheelsets.

I had them. Was running tubeless. They dont have hole on the sidewall of the rim like other rims. Enve has this fluted valve ring where air is supposed to escape to prevent air being trapped inside the rim in case the tubeless tape fails. Well my tubeless tape failed, and the air didnt escape quick enough through the fluted valve ring. The carbon delaminated, and the rim exploded. I’m in the process of preparing the rim for warranty claim. Other than that, the wheelset was pretty good.

I picked up some ICAN Aero 45 rim brake rims (with DT Swiss hubs) for roughly 970aud, 6 months in and 1500km amd 1 severe crash, still roll perfect and still true.

I am planning to purchase these foundation 45 verses the Zipp 303 S. The MAX inflation pressure for these Envés is 90 lbs, Zipp 303 S, only 72 lbs.

My wheels keep getting freeplay on the rear hub after every 500km+. Is this normal? Everytime i have to bring back to the shop to tighten the hub.

Still not really affordable compared to many other cheaper options… hunt, swissside, shimano all massively less expensive

@@marty197666 That is a 5 year old video and entirely different wheel series, and as the producer said, lots more to consider than cut in half analysis. That said, wheels made in USA but built in the EU, serviced and warranted in the EU for swift incident replacement if need be, is indeed a superior customer service option and adds to the revenue of UK, even if you do not care about US.

Idea for a Zwift experiment; How much additional power can you put out if you use your hands to power a second crank? (See: Twicycle, or perhaps Hand-and-Foot recumbents.)

heh, sounds complicated :-) probably the answer is none though, your limit is more set by your cardovascular system than your muscle capacity, although you might be able to top up your sprint

@@roadcc Your joints tend to strengthen more slowly than your muscles, so no matter how strong your leg muscles or cardiovascular system get, you'll eventually top out because of your joints. I've heard that there are actually a lot of muscles you tend to make use of while cycling that don't actually get much of a workout though, which is why getting an upper body workout is sometimes considered helpful. More control and whatnot. (Also, split cranks to manually keep your legs in sync, like the PowerCrank.) Also, the real-world Twicycle is 2WD; your arms power the front wheel. 2WD on a bicycle is honestly just awesome, especially if you plan to do mountain biking or steep climbs.

I have a set of lun grapid for less than 800 and love them also have roval clx rapide 50 on my endurance bike and do love them but way overpriced alot of companies are making wheels that compete well against enve for less than half the price

Here's the uncomfortable truth: 1. Enve are subpar, horrible value wheels when compared with other brands 2. Wind tunnel testing doesn't reflect real world performance 3. Quoting a brand's marketing blurbs isn't quality content.
