Appreciate your unboxing and the contest but there were some specs not mentioned that I think makes these possibly the best valued disc wheelset (more than my 4.5ARs). The spokes ENVE uses in these while heavier, build a laterally stiffer wheel. The bearings are NTN. The inner width is great for road disc at 21 but the external is 28 which is very on trend.
@markthrelfall3577
@markthrelfall3577 4 жыл бұрын
veloriderkm very good point. I did point out the bearings though. And whilst I didn’t specifically say it has an overall width of 28mm, I did discuss the internal width and the wider leading edge. They’re a great set of wheels - just too much to cover 😃
@veloriderkm
@veloriderkm 4 жыл бұрын
Mark Threlfall I must have missed the NTN bearings mention. I’m very excited about these and what they represent in the realm of affordable performance. It’s a bit like recent power meter price drops.

I have a 10 year old bike. Gets me out there and even did a 100 mile race with it last November. I would be happier with a new bike let alone new wheels I cannot use. Bike on everyone.

What do you mean budget, a pair of yoeleos will set you back less than $1000 for the top end model, and they perform well in independent testing.

@ambat_
@ambat_ 4 жыл бұрын
Matthew Ammann personally don’t own a pair but know a few people that do and they love them. And if you look at hambinis wheel test they performed really well (he tested the 50mm and 88mm).
@Raptors0524
@Raptors0524 4 жыл бұрын
Batstar10 This is interesting. They also have some independent test with graphs indicating how well their wheels perform. I want some deeper wheels for my weekend rides. Currently, I am running HED Jet plus 5 which are 55mm deep.

Savage Poet I don’t know why these companies are so adamant with pushing rim brakes out the door. It saddens me 🥺. I could understand if disc were better, but they aren’t, at least not right now.

Matthew Ammann but disc brakes perform much much better than stupid rim brakes
@Raptors0524
@Raptors0524 4 жыл бұрын
Nicholas Masciaga You can’t make blanket statements like that. Rim brakes are more then enough for the road. There is so many benefits to having rim brakes. For me, I don’t ride in the rain, or dissent down Mount Everest. If you don’t do those two, then rim brakes can hang with disc. Disc brakes aren’t better they just are different.
@nicholasmasciaga4777
@nicholasmasciaga4777 4 жыл бұрын
@@Raptors0524 that's where you're wrong. Disc brakes always outperform rim brakes but they will outperform them more depending on the situation. How blind must you be to say that discs aren't better. I get the lightweight bit and the aesthetics (even though imo discs are cooler) but there really is no debate on braking performance

ENVEs tire compatibility chart is a bit of a crock. They list tyres that they have tested and signed off as compatible. However, many of the “approved” tyre companies have wanted nothing to do with the association. Until two agree on compatibility, then you run your own risk.

So they use older molds and sell them cheaper than their flagships wheels. Ok smart because their older wheels are still fast

"...you don't have to put two different size wheels for testing in the wind tunnel..." WHAT!? They've already put every depth & nearly every shape thru the wind tunnel already. So going back to basics saves the company money? Yes of course, & seeing as how they are no longer made in america, we could just wait for the next Chinese copy of these wheels & buy those for 1/4 the price what ENVE charge. Thanks, but no thanks.
@markthrelfall3577
@markthrelfall3577 4 жыл бұрын
Crypto Que A depth of wheel is very different to a shape of wheel! Every wheel has different properties, so I’m afraid your argument isn’t great there. And sure, go get some Chinese knock-offs, but they will be nowhere near the quality or have the performance of a well manufactured set. I’m talking from experience too

These are made in america though... and having one rim shape rather than 2 saves on tooling and inventory costs.

Haha budget wheels huh. I guess everything is budget of you have the money. If my budget is 3500 then those wheels are in my budget. But if my budget is 200 then no, those wheels are not. Regardless, nice try ENVE
