Vernon At Gomexus Sent Me A Reel To Review!
I had almost forgotten about possibly receiving this jigging reel. For the past year i've struck up a friendship with Vernon over at Gomexus USA. It started over a conversation of if i could figure out a way of applying existing Gomexus conversion kits to accessorize Okuma's Blue Azores Spinning Reel. That project took awhile as i wanted to be sure about the results. Not only did it work for the Blue Azores but it also worked on the original Azores series as well (had to cross-over & use large Daiwa Knobs & got "creative" on the hardware used).
This was during the 2023 iCAST & everyone was busy. Even though i was sick this morning throwing up i still went out in the field. I caught a fish shore jigging & did my review of my GSP rig. At my front door i had no idea the UPS delivery guy had dropped-off my new jigging reel. So i first did my in the field report for Okuma followed by my unboxing video. Now i'm posting the 2 new additions to my channel & i'll be off to bed as i'm so sick right now. Actually swaying & can't eat. I do this because i want to help those who have questions on accessorizing their Okuma Reels. Just so happens i do own "a few".
I also found out the new Okuma Ceymar HD released spinning reel won't accept Gomexus conversion parts. The internal handle's drive system is unique. Gomexus needed someone who had the majority of their released products to help update their product's applications. I tried to turn this over to Okuma's Director of Product Development John Bretza but John said he'll trust me to help out Gomexus &.Okuma. Just want to clarify i'm not a Staffer with Gomexus but i do help other companies.

Is the knob on the left side by clicker a casting aid like break block or magic control is the reel cast with no thumb the reel thanks.

Tensioner? Once you have it set it doesn't affect your casting. I had so many tell me i can't cast a dedicated jigging reel. So Gomexus sent me one of their best popular models. Low & behold i was right. Took me only a few tries but i proved it can be done. After i tried with light 2/3oz banks i tried again with 4/5/6. Wow! The distance! But i'm sure a larger unit with a heavy lop-sided offset handle would create a uneven weight distribution though not 100%.

@@ScubaChris yes sir I was just wondering about the knob on the left side by the clicker if it was a tension knob for casting etc like it being a break to cast it with no thumb?

@@Coolguyfishing123 This was intended to be a jigging reel. I wanted to show some anglers that yes it can be casted from shore or off a pier. So if you already own this model now you can use it from shore as well. At first these anglers told me i didn't know what i was talking about. Now that i've proven that i was right & it can be shore casted they all took them selfs off my friend's list because they didn't want want others reading what they said & what i did. Jiggers are purist. I knew it would work. But i also know it would work w/these smaller sizes & not the larger units. I still had to try. Amazing that up till now nobody else did.

Hey I was wondering if I were to have 300 and wanted a whipping setup for fishing in Hawaii preferably 9’6 what would be the best rod and reel for me

Rather a broad question as you didn't specify brand, strength or targeted species. Currently i'm using my Guide Select Pro at 9'9". medium rated for 3/8-1oz. 8-17lb line. This is my most used shoreline rod in Hawaii. Any 4K spinner will do, 3K is ok but i prefer a light-weight 4K. An ITX 4K would be good but i never received one. Very lightweight. I have a ITX 3K which is good but for a shorter/lighter rated rod say 7'9" it's perfect. A Helios40 is a good choice but lacks the power rating. I use a Cedros 4000. With 15lb mono i have a nicely balanced rig that has power when needed. Pro Tip! I noticed last week on Amazon the Cedros are now going for record low prices. This tells me a newer model may be ready to be revealed. I really love my Cedros 4K. Holds a lot of line. But if you want a lighter rig go with the SST w/carbon grip. I use the 10'6" w/a 3K ITX or a Helios40. Now these are really light weight & i can bomb 30 jigs 80yd easily from shore using 10lb braid. I've many videos showing that combo in shoreline action.

@@ScubaChriswhich one of these two do you think would be the more versatile for all kinds of terrains mainly aiming for anything I can and if I were to get a sst with a itx 4k would that be good? Btw what’s bombing
@ScubaChris
@ScubaChris 11 ай бұрын
@@mazziotic8664 Bombing is a term for casting far. Ok, if you had $300? Knowing you a bit better now i'd go with the ITX4000 since you love that series like myself. If you want distance but still be accurate the 9'9" Guide Select Pro Med/8-17lb test/3/8-1oz. That's only "if" you want to use an Okuma rod to match your reel. If you go SST i'd use the "A" Series Carbon Grips over the cork (unless you like cork). SST-S-1062M-CGA. 10'6", 3/8-3/4oz (i've used 1oz with no issues), 8-17lb. Because i love to feel the battle i rarely go over 15lb test line. On my 3K's i go 10lb braid or 8lb mono. On my 4K's i go 15lb mono or braid or fluoro. All personal preference though. In the PNW the GSP & SST are the #1 choice for Salmon, Steelheads & Trout. The Rockaway Series was born from Okuma designing those rods for the Sea Perch Surf Anglers off the Oregon Coastlines (like papi'o). You can use what you want. I'm just suggesting the rod as you already know the reel you want to use. I hope this has been helpful for you:)

@@ScubaChriswhat is the reason for using a 10’6 over like a 9 or 9’6 on the Sst and what is the difference between and gsp and Sst?
@ScubaChris
@ScubaChris 11 ай бұрын
@@mazziotic8664 I've already said you can bomb w/the 10'6" over the 9'6". I have 2 10'6" & 4 of the 9'9" so i've done my homework on this for years now as i own other lengths as well. And i use the correct rod to match the habitat i'll be working that day. And i'll tailor match the lures i'll pair with them as well. When you find something that you like & works well for you, you stick with it. I've added different strengths to vary my lure selections. This is what works for me in the areas i fish. It may or may not work for you so you're the one who must decide to get your feet wet on this or try something maybe more familiar to you.
