They understand Urdu! Urdu and Hindi stem both from the older Indian dialect "Hindustani". Urdu is Hindustani with more Persian/Arabic influence, which means it has more similar words to Pashto (main language spoken in Afghanistan) so it's easier for them to understand. Hindi has more Sanskrit words

The person in wheelchair is ranbir kapoors grandfather in real life ! Shammi kapoor. Who is dead now! And his grandparents moved to india from peshawar!

Shammi would be Ranbir’s grand uncle, not grandfather. His grandfather was Raj Kapoor and Shammi and Shashi were his brothers.
