Education is the starting point. I've lived in America for 17 years as An African from Liberia. And I've made it a point to seize every opportunity to educate everyone about Africa/Liberia. Like I told an African American who asked me why Africans hate black people? I said back in the day all we saw on tv was boys n the hood and from the African Americans perspective, all they see is a jungle and Tarzan. Thanks to the internet and Facebook now people have a better view of Africa. So Education and exposure are important

African cannot be compared to any continent in the world. In each African country, there are small tribes. The presidents are so tribalistic, that they only see other tribes as the enemy or concurrence. But the small tribes have nothing to learn from each other! The tribes have to lift their eyes and find concurrence outside Africa! Then there will be meaningful competition.

Nigeria is definitely leading when comes to the entertainment industry. Up to last week the movie "Black Book" was one of the most stream movie on Netflix in a week.

this topic reminds me of a youtuber 'the table with AO' this brother made a comment about Africans living in trees but, his channel has a focus on successful black entrepreneurs, even though someone interested in interviewing successful black people should know that the world's richest black man is Nigerian and made is wealth in Nigeria. Putting his ignorance aside its easy to see how Africa's clear lack of dominance on its own narrative, resources, policy, industry; has an effect on how ALL people view it

It's important to remember that the last time African Americans moved to Africa en masse they instituted a crueler version of South Africa's apartheid which culminated in the mass murder of the local populations. Africans should never forget this and should always cast doubt on their intentions.

6:55 Point of correction, Nigerians have always gotten respect. Growing up in the 60/70s and travelling to London in the 70s & early 80s, during the oil boom, every store wanted Nigerians; you did not need a visa to travel to London in those days and the Naira was stronger than the dollar and there was nothing special about America during that period. Yes, things took a turn during the mid-80s and got progressively challenging for the country no doubt corruption and selfishness has a lot to do with it...Bottom line do not paint/project a picture as if what is happening with the country now is what it was always. Some of us do have a good memory of what Nigeria was at one point and there is no doubt this would still happen in the future, how this would transpire is anyone’s guess but just watch out. Also there are no “blacks” or “whites” that is a subliminal message to perpetuate the age-old ideology of the caste system, the race concept which is one big fat lie, don’t really understand why these days people of African descent especially those who know their heritage would take on this label which says your history starts from “slavery.” Some get this but most do not and that is fine.

As an African Amrican woman, I feel you have some work to do on protecting yourselves first, as I feel that we African Americans have work to do on respecting each other and coming to consensus. Unfortunately I have seen Africans in America particularly Houston area and spoke to them and got absolutely no response. But I watched as white people passed them and saw how white their teeth were especially if it was a white female. And they were darker than my car tires but I also have or had family that dark.!!!

This dialogue was reflective and insightful. I luv seeing African Diaspora and Continental Africans come together. It's what our Ancestors would want and bless. However, African-Americans have already earned respect in this world. We survived the middle passage of the Trans-Atlantic slave trade, and rose up to challenge the illegal systems of Western powers. The only thing we haven't yet learned is self-respect and self-love... neither have Continental Africans. This is what was taken from us all. A cataclysmic horror (slavery & Colonialism) was visited upon all Black Africans, and because we want to deny that, it's internalized as crippling self-hatred and debasement of each other. This is our real weakness😎

Truth is, people who think of the world in terms of skin colour are not very mentally developed. African Americans are not Africans... If Africans get respect, people will still look at African Americans as a distinct and separate group. Why, because they have a different experience historically and culturally. People will look at Nigerians better if people in Nigeria are doing well. But that will not translate over to African Americans. Blacks in America need to build their own thing either in Africa or in America. Then people will respect them... because at the end of the day, people will still say well they were descended from slaves so they are not like Africans and so they are still not worthy of the same respect.

I totally agree with this brother. Even you can see people from other continents they respect a few countries in Africa that are well developed. And it's in human nature to respect those who are stronger and are doing well. Even animals, most animals respect lions because lions are strong. But once the continent starts to do well every body will start to be proud of the continent. But the biggest problem in Africa is the leaderships. The leaders still have the greed of long time ago. The leaders have not changed, they don't care one bit about their own population. For example in Uganda I believe most people in Uganda don't have jobs that can provide their family with a good standard of living. But Ugandan politicians are paid $8000 month plus embezzlement of taxes, aid and many of Uganda's resources. On the other hand, European politician are paid $3000 month. We all know the cost of living in Europe is at least fives times more in Europe compared to Uganda. Why would Uganda politicians be paid that much money when the rest of the population cannot afford the daily necessities of life, their no adequate schools in most or rural Uganda, no healthcare centers, most buildings in Ugandan cities were build during the colonial time and list goes on. Now if you have take from this country for 38 years, then you have completely choked the life out this country. Why would any one be proud of country that the capital city is full of pothole, lawless motorcycles all over the city, corruption everywhere, dictatorship for more than quarter of a century and many other problem that have been inflicted by the government. That's why you see all these coup happening on the continent . People are fed up. We can blame the foreign countries all we want but until we get rid of self centered leadership, we will continue to stay behind and undeveloped. Thanks for the good topic.

It's very true, Africa got to build its own brand.. As far as I understand, successful countries were able to protect investors legally from any wrongdoing of other parties. China has strong protections with their business law so that people don't have to feel afraid of losing all of their money if they put their faith in that country. From what I know, and correct me if I'm wrong, those same protections aren't so strong or prevalent in African countries, which makes investing in a country in which you don't know the people, culture, etc VERY risky. With the idea of a some of the people looking at Black Americans/Europeans as bottomless money machines and a quick buck can give pause to some people's ideas of reinvesting back in the continent. Tighten business laws, impose rules like China had that businesses have to be majority or partly Chinese owned, make becoming an African easier for black peoples around the globe, and you will see the money and development flow from the part of the diaspora.

In 1890 the US was 25% urbanized over 250 years after White settled in America . Uganda after 60 years Independence is 25% urbanized . Rwanda approximately 20% urbanization and targeting double in 10 years with technology cities, smart cities and airport constructions . Huge potential for real estate . Gabon is 60% urbanized 63 years after Independence .

Africa for Africans, black people on the continent & blacks globally to build African systems. Imagine black money, black currency’s working for black people on the continent. Our money will not oppress us like in the west. There will be affordable homes, food is affordable, affordable health systems. Advance education in Africa that's affordable and allot of benefits like scholarships in all fields for African students in rural areas, the slums, the ghetto and so own. We can do it, building Africa a safer place, a place to heal. A place that treats blacks better than the west and a place to unifies even if it's just for business, black success. No offense, but comparing African countries to China is like comparing apples to oranges. China is the 2nd largest economy in the world, with the largest population. From an economic standpoint, China is an essentially a Communist country with a government/central bank that will manipulate their own currency just to keep their export driven economy going. Africa is a large continent with multiple countries with different languages and different currencies. China can afford to get into trade wars with large economic powerhouses like the United States because of all the resources they have combined with all their production. No country in Africa has that kind of economic power. That kind of power would require all the countries in Africa to unite under one currency with shared resources and economic values.

The small movement that needs to happen is for Africa to open its borders to any diaspora that wants to come. Assist them in any way to get there and living. Then, let them sustain themselves.
