When the Kora player just loses it you can tell that he really really feels it. It isn't just music to him it's more and as a musician I really love seeing that. He really is feeling the music so spiritually here it looks like. This to me is WAY better than any mainstream artist in the USA or the K-Pop scene and we need more of this to be seen, shared and kept alive all around the world.

I'm Mandingo ethnically so this here is literally my culture. You're absolutely correct. I remember visiting my pops' village and they often have a ceremony when a foreigner visits. I remember it feeling surreal, almost scary for me as a kid. It felt vibrational. This is so much more than music. It IS spiritual as you said. When OG hits the footwork he's most definitely in trance. It reminds me of James Brown/Michael etc. Thank you for appreciating this.

I keep coming back to this video. As an American I can hear the direct lineage from this music to delta blues. The American blues and spiritual music is steeped in suffering and sorrow; it's bittersweet to hear it descended from such lively and happy music. And this went on to inspire almost all the popular music we hear in the world today.

There’s no way in hell the blues musicians of the 1920s had ever heard anything like this, yet they sound so similar.
@-DRIP Жыл бұрын
My dad told me that music comes from the heart because you can feel and sometimes hear the sound of your own “heartbeat”. Makes you want to pound your chest, dance and sing. Makes you feel alive, litteraly. There’s a reason why people in nursing homes suddenly spring alive when they hear music they grew up with.
@bean4423 Жыл бұрын
Bc the blues didn’t jus start inna 1920s outta nowhere. Even early blues musicians a tell u dat. Ma Rainey herself said the blues always been n she knew wtf she was tb. Guaranteed alotta the music our enslaved ancestors use to play on the banjo n fiddle would most deflee be categorized as “the blues” now.

Rap, Hip-Hop began in NYC in the 1980s, which unlike Chicago or LA has a big caribbean population...Rap came out of the Jamaican dancehall tradition...see this track from 1970s Jamaica...especially around 17:00 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/lbCChsJevamsnJc.html
@AlMahdi2k6 жыл бұрын
Wrong. Carribeans did not introduce rap to us. Number one dancehall hit the scene in the 70's. Black Americans were rapping since at least the 1920's. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ipiloM9ntt2ypHU.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gpaGh9uExq-xcY0.html. Secondly if we wanna get really honest Black Americans are the forefathers of ska and and rock steady which were the precursors to reggae." After World War II, Jamaicans purchased radios in increasing numbers and were able to hear rhythm and blues music from Southern United States cities such as New Orleans by artists such as Fats Domino and Louis Jordan." Chen, Wayne (1998). Reggae Routes. Temple University Press. "In the late 1950s deejay toasting was developed by Count Machuki.[2] He conceived the idea from listening to disc jockeys on American radio stations. He would do African American jive over the music while selecting and playing R&B music." Lloyd Bradley. This is reggae music: the story of Jamaica's music . ISBN 978-0802138286. So you have it backwards. Jamaicans didn't influence us Black Americans but we influenced them with our Jazz and RnB. So unless you can cite me a source of Jamaicans rapping before the 1920's I rest my case.
