With Windows PC's I build my own. With Laptops, I reformat them and do a fresh install of Windows with minimum telemetry. No bloatware or any other crap. I'm an Engineer. I've worked for multiple multi-national corporations. Every industry I've worked in, from trains, oil rigs, ships, medical and now laboratory equipment has always needed Windows. Mac OS is too locked down and hard to customise for a lot of companies. Setting up a Windows PC can be a pain if you're not used to it, but it's not difficult to switch off all the background crap and advertising. It's only a constant problem if you let it be that way.

Completely agree, and you don't have to be an IT specialist to get Windows working very nicely. I am agnostic. I have 2 windows desktops, one high-ish spec AMD and a 6 year old Intel. Both working well and the AMD very comfortable with 4K video editing. But. I also have an M1 macbook pro and an M2 pro Mac Mini for my professional video work. The Macbook is great. Fast with brilliant battery life. A great purchase. However, Im sorry, I hate the operating system, its archaic file navigation, lack of customisation, weird ways of doing something as simple as formatting a drive. Open a picture, and can you just hit an arrow key to go through the folder? No. etc, etc. It looks and feels like its from the 80`s, but faster. By the way, how can you have used windows exclusively till 2 years ago and not know what Onedrive is? Its part of windows and gives really easy cloud access on computers and mobiles, including my Apple machines, and it doesnt cost anything unless you want Terrabytes of storage.

So it seems it is clearly a matter of opinion. Honestly, an iPad alone or a Mac alone are super limiting. And even if carrying both everywhere, which is terrible, it still does not do all what a Surface can do (drawing a mask with the pen with Capture One Pro using the Surface as a tablet in the plane with limited space... This happened to me. I needed a laptop for my digital mixer for live gigs, and my wife insisted it needed to be a mac. So much so that she bought me one. I connected the mixer, and audio was working flawlessly in about 3 seconds. Literally! On a windows machine there are hours of installs, tweaks, and patches needed to make things work, and even then. Then came photography. Once I saw how color management was universal from app to app, and from screen to printer I was done with windows. I could not beleive how my prints matched my screen EVERY time. I thought it was magic. I never did get Windows color management to work well. I always had to toggle things on and off, and reload profiles. Even then, I'd view something on the desktop with completely different colors than photoshop, even though the settings were set the same. I still have 2 machines, but windows might as well be an xbox. It's a beast for playing games. Anything that needs to get done gets done on the mac, and I haven't even experienced Apple Silicon yet.

Oh no. That wasn’t my first rodeo. It was a FireWire mixer I wanted to run on a laptop in 2009. There were literally a handful that could do it reliably in real time, on stage. Went the same for the three desktop interface before that. Windows doesn’t have direct control of its hardware. It has to do it through driver layers. That introduces latency and the chance for hiccups. Mac OS doesn’t even use drivers. Core audio just gives the device priority and you fly. You can even use multiple, unlike audio interfaces at the same time. That’s almost magic coming from years of windows tweaks and special installs.

However I am using Thinkpad T Series and HP Elitebooks for 15 years no and had no issues with the material. Especially the older models allow to upgrade and replace parts which is a big advantage for me. Installing updates on Windows really is no fun, but to be fair - Installing an old OS on a Mac will also force you to install updates. I make sure to download the latest Windows ISOs and it never takes me more than 30 min to format and install. Less then 10 min if I restore a backup. My company gave me a Macbook Pro with Core I9, 32GB Ram and 1TB SSD. I really hated this one. It was heavy, loud, and the battery was always empty. Working in a Windows domain was no fun. There are different operating systems and different notebook models that fit different requirements. Recently I got a refurbished T470s for 200$, upgraded to 20GB Ram and installed Linux. I feel like there were only two arguments here - the constant updates on a new PC and all the ad junk. Anyone with a tiny bit of computer knowledge can get rid of any of this stuff in 5 minutes and I think half the ads were Dell junk. So basically all the complaints were things that are only felt when reinstalling Windows and then after the first day there's no more problems. Sure, that's annoying, but not a good reason to say the experience of using the OS generally is better or worse than another.

Feels a bit overdramatic. Yes, setting up a Windows system from scratch takes a while. After that though, it just works. Every problem you're describing apart from the restarting issue is due to lack of proper setup. You can turn OneDrive notifications off, you can turn the newsfeed off, you can change the start menu to not show you any ads - or tiles, for that matter. Default windows is a pain, that's fair. However, the whole point of a Windows system over macOS is that everything about it is virtually 100% customisable, so you can set up your system to look and work exactly the way you want.

This update description sounds like you used the years old Windows-Installation media, instead of getting the latest variant, which will already include most of the updates you now needed to install one by one (downloadable from MS). I would expect your experience would have been similar, when reinstalling your MacBook with some "High Sierra" install-media, which first needs to update itselfs to the latest macOS. The reboots on Windows are pretty much down to a minimum for me - not even the last yearly-update to 23H2 needed a reboot. Also have an XPS - luckily not sticky yet... but I know this effect from other "soft-plastic" surfaces... once you don't touch them for months - they suddenly start "bleeding out"... guess it has something to do with skin-oil keeping them fresh, but without it they start drying out and bleed out their softeners. If that's the case not the best choice from dell imho. But that is an XPS problem - not a Apple-solution or even Windows issue. My way older Asus notebook is full aluminum and looks great - the Lenovos we use at work the same.

@@jeanbaptistelabelle I am not re-watching the video to check, but from my memory he has 4-5 complaints specifically from MS (uncombined updates creates more updates on an out of date PC (Apple bundles out of date updates better reducing reboots when catching up), need to update after installing more applications than on Mac, injecting News and unwanted icons into the Start menu and search bar, frequency and style of One Note requests) and a few from Dell (some of the updates installed going to be for Dell drivers/software, probably linked IN, bad material choices). I am sure you know that most people don't buy MS devices as they historically did not have that option and now have very few, so this is the experience MS has designed by giving control of hardware support to their partnered vendors. I 100% agree that Apple's iCloud is comparable with OneDrive, but if you look at 5:08 you will see the variety of alerts he gets when opting out, and you don't get that on Apple. I personally have used both and have nothing against MacOS. BUT: In my opinion this is by no means a "Fair" comparison. You start off by saying that you grabbed your "old Dell" from the shelf where it has been sitting for over a year and not been turned on. Then you complain that this specific Dell Lineup has problems with the build quality and that it's sticky, etc... What has that to do with Windows exactly? There are a whack ton of devices that have an all aluminum body design and that are built very very well. So that is not a valid point against windows. Same with the error upon boot where a setting in the BIOS had changed. This has nothing to do with windows. This is again on Dell. Also then you complain that you had to install a ton of updates. Like... What do you expect from a Windows 10 Laptop that has not been used in over a year? Obviously there are updates. And yes if you do a OS Update on a Mac it also reboots. I personally don't have any application that immediately reboots my PC after installing it. Yes there are some installations that ask to reboot the PC but most of the time you can ignore it and use the software as is. This is on the Developer and yet again not on Windows. Also when showing the Screenshots of the Windows Updates you mixed in WIndows 8 into this. Why not use the actual screenshots? And that OneDrive Pop-Up you've been talking about: You can either disable it so it won't start on boot or simply uninstall OneDrive completely. It's that easy. MacOS and iOS also try to sell you iCloud like it's a cure for cancer. I can already hear the comments coming in that are saying "oh he's a Mac-Hater" or "Windows Fanboy..." But if you carefully watch that comparison without preferring one side more than the other, this is objectively not a fair comparison.

My Windows desktops and laptop perform much better than my M1 and M2 Macs. And that's not based strictly on speed. If you're hooked into an MS Office and MS business apps environment (as I am at work), the Mac just can't keep up. Office apps for the Mac platform are absolute garbage and they seem to get worse with each update. The app development tools I use are available on both Mac and PC, but they perform much better on the PC. PCs are infinitely more user-configurable on both the hardware and software side of things as well. Is upkeep and maintenance on the Mac easier? Sure. But the extra work required in Windows is so worth it, I don't complain about it. I actually enjoy tinkering around on a PC now. With this said, the first time I have a major issue with Windows and have to do a "fresh install" like days gone by I may be back on the Mac bandwagon, but for now I'm much more productive (and happy) with my PCs. As with most things in life, pick the right tool for the job you're trying to do.

I am at the opposite side of the spectrum. made the change 2-3 years ago and just got back to a PC with WIndows because Mac just wasnt for me. While windows has it's issues, the fact that on such expensive products you only give 256gb as the smallest memory... and 8gb of RAM. SO now i have 4tb of NVME M.2 ssd storage and 32 ggb for very cheap and guess what besides editing videos and photos I can also game on the windows machine...

I use Mac in my personal life and Windows for work. MacOS is far superior from a UX perspective. When Mac updates, once a month or so, it takes 5 minutes and it’s completely painless. Windows updates twice a week and constantly has to restart, or you lose performance. I hate how expensive everything Apple is, but owning Apple everything is completely stress free. I can't remember, when a normal Windows update or driver needed a reboot last time - and I have three different Windows 11 Systems in daily use. Not even such low-level updates like GPU-driver need a reboot.

When I worked at Google (as an IT support staff) it was the first time I was really exposed to macOS and ultimately was sold by the hardware build quality and how great the trackpad worked. The amount of crapware preloaded was insane and the constant wheedling from M$ to buy another of their services as you go through the start up process was just disgusting. Then an automatic update corrupted Windows and the system had to be flushed and started fresh. So I went through it all again. Then it happened one more time, a day later. The did a fresh install without the crapware and the machine has been running smoothly ever since. The experience cemented my determination to stick with MacOS and iOS products.

From this video, I get the impression that when he meets a new girl, he would say to his wife, 'OMG, I can't believe I lived with that sticky old woman.' This mirrors his attitude towards technology: he justifies downloading and paying for third-party apps on Mac to do simple tasks like snapping tabs, while nitpicking minor issues on Windows. His bias is evident, and it's hard to believe he actually used Windows before. I also use a Mac but I miss some of the amazing features that Windows offers. The video comes across as biased and unfair, making it hard to take his opinions seriously. I think Windows 7 was my last favorite version of Windows. 10 and 11 are just a mess and 11 is nothing but an ad machine for MS products. Just the simple act of changing my default browser to Chrome in Windows 11 vs MacOS is night and day easier on the Mac. One simple click, no complaint, it just changes it. It has been in the same location in settings for ever. It seems like almost every time I go into settings in Windows 11, stuff has been moved around or renamed. It is the QVC of operating systems.

It's a bit in poor taste to say, "well, after updating my Mac OS I do not need to restart my machine!" when in fact it's more in the lines of "well, after updating my LINUX machine, I do not need to restart the thing!". I'm mentioning this since a Mac and Windows user might fight about which one is better, there's always a superior mind out there ready to pounce and say "Actually, Linux is better than both!". To a Mac user I say, at least Microsoft is actually doing its own thing! Also, I like to game, have compatibility with old tech etc. I used my (granted, older) iMac for a few days and all I could do is the same thing my old Android tablet can do, watch KZfaq and browse some of the internet? And buy the latest one? I don't care about video editing, or pay the exorbitant fees to be able to do so. Try running a server for an older game on a Mac, or play most games. It's all to do with what you need it for. My laptops do not have crappy faux carbon material on it, though the machine itself is amazing, some of the materials are questionable, but hey, at least they are trying things. Apple? They did not start with aluminium, they had equally crappy plastic slabs nobody cares for. You can also buy laptops with the same built quality or better. I have been an Apple user for years and love it. Although I believe your personal Windows experience isn’t justified. Windows has come a long way, and the 11th version is pretty damn good compared to its predecessor, Windows Vista. Of course, there are going to be pros and cons with any OS, but to say Mac OS is better than Windows is foolish. Like I said, I've been an Apple fan for years and can point out that in the last several years, Mac OS, iPad OS, and Apple Watch OS updates are getting worse. Safari, with all the latest updates, is now a mess, not recognizing many sites I browse on. Having several tabs open and going from one tab back to another browser page goes blank, not compatible with Facebook or KZfaq - crashes too many times. I can give you a list of Apple's issues with the latest updates that is widely available all over social media. And those updates you’re complaining about in Windows, Apple has been having its share. Again, I still love my Apple devices, but Windows 11 is pretty damn near perfection compared to their older OS.

I use Macs and PC's, but the struggle is real for doing a new Windows install and then going through all the updates. Then downloading and installing any needed drivers from Dell. Just as a comparison, if you do a clean install on a Mac it will download the latest Mac OS version, which of course already has all the updates in it, and you're done. Plus Time Machine for backups since it will also restore your applications and settings (since it's all just file based).
