A story about going to see Artemus Pyle of Lynyrd Skynyrd at a local dinner theater close to Houston, Texas. Things used to be much more simple back in the day.

Mark, you have to face it - being a survivor of the Lynyrd Skynyrd plane crash places you in a very rare space in history.

A car accident got me. People with disabilities have a lot of issues with things like this all the time. I try to stay at home now but they still force me to see doctors. Sitting there waiting waiting waiting at appointments is a very unpleasant situation when you have chronic pain. I was actually holding my breath as Mark told this story because I can relate. I`m so scared of cars and it hurts me to ride in them. And I have to go. AND....no anxiety meds if you take anything for pain and they won`t even give you much for that and insurance won`t cover it so they`re taking food money from me that I really need. I get more and more angry about it each day.

Okay . . . The "Please, Please, Please" Dun it. I'm subscribed. Thanks for the story. I was 17 when the crash occurred and played in what me and my buddies called a band, but we never were really very good. But we played Skynerd and some ZZ Top, Marshall Tucker, the Outlaws and several other bands tunes. I switched between Bass and Drums (that started when our drummer got slugged and a severely broken nose by a Jealous boyfriend at a show. He quit that night.) and we generally had a good time and even got a few more gigs. But hearing the news of the crash took the wind out of my sails for a while and I just sort drifted away from playing anymore. I remember hearing about what Artemus did after the crash and how he pressed on even after the guy shot him in the shoulder thinking that he was an escaped convict or something to that effect and thinking that that must have been one tough, determined dude. I don't know why but for some reason I keep thinking about all-a-y'all and all that happened and wondering about things since. I heard that Gary Rossington died a few weeks ago and, well . . . ya'll have just been on my mind lately. I just sort of stumbled onto your channel and I'm glad I did. Take care and I'll see you around. Keith Hailey aka the Tinker (cuz that's what I do)

I was a lowly stagehand/gopher back around 2007 for a Deep South show. There was an issue with the band's backdrop. I don't remember exactly what... But l DO remember we were pressed for time getting it raised behind the drum riser. Me and our drum tech had to all up in Artemus' grill during soundcheck with two extension ladders to get it raised. Our nuts and asses were all up in his face the whole time. After soundcheck l expected him to be PISSED! But no! Instead, he was impressed! He was so cool. We ended up talking with him 20-30 minutes just shootin the shit. Then he was like "Man we appreciate it. Let us play a song for ya during the show. What you want us to do"? I said "How about 'The Hunt'? Can yall do that one"? You should have seen the look on his face. He just said "What"?! "Nobody ever requests THAT one"! Then during the show, THEY NAILED IT! Super bunch of guys!

I’ve been a drummer for 45 years and I used to like Artimus but after his public version regarding the crash, I don’t like him anymore. Several of his claims were debunked as lies by others who were also there but the one that really got me was his claim of being shot by that farmer. That never happened and the proof is he was never treated that night at the hospital for a gunshot wound plus the farmer’s statement that he fired over Artimus’ head. I don’t know why Artimus insists on sticking with that story but until he admits the truth, I have no respect for him. I’m sure he’s a nice guy but I don’t like dishonest people. You can’t trust them and if they will lie about one thing, they’ll lie about anything.
