MD80’s JT8D spool up and loud buzzsaw brings back memories of visiting my grandparents in my childhood. If the JT8D can be re-engineered with modern materials, higher compression ratio, and afterburners for supersonic Jetliners would be a dream come true.

Oh, that's already a thing. The Saab Viggen effectively had an afterburning JT8D, although they were license-built by Volvo.

Flew on an MD 88 (Delta) recently (Delta mothballing theirs also) on second leg if a two leg flight. The first was an A321. The Mad Dig did seem kinda old and dated. BUT IT GOT ME HOME. At the end of the day, that’s what really matters.

@@remembermcdonnelldouglas948 There are still planes that have that livery in American's fleet with the same livery. Regional jets, some short to medium haul aircraft have it. Some of it is because AA was planning to retire some aircraft and didn't bother changing the livery, but that paint concept is still possible and they'll probably keep some aircraft painted in the retro livery.

The first flight was my first ever time on a plane. I remember one of the planes I rode on was built in 1988, in service to at least 2010... I'd have to look it up to see what plane it was. I'm sure the MD80 gave much more benefits to AA than the MD11, that was itself a failure for its manufacturer. The MD11 was retired way before the 80 even though it came to business 10 years laters, unable to compete against the twin-engine Boeing 777.
