Musicality this song is top notch. It's fast paced and heavy. Love the riff, melody, and chorus. I don't really care for the MV either but I don't penalize them for that. I like what I hear 🤘

I respect that you can explain your likes and dislikes. I totally agree about the amount of compression used. My experience is that Band Maid has high compression on studio/album tracks. Not as much for the MVs. And little on their live releases from their various concerts on bluray. The song Domination, that you liked more, ironically, is from a concert which is generally considered to have a sub-par audio mix.

Expecting high quality sound from KZfaq's highly compressed audio feed is perhaps unrealistic, especially if one's playback system is subpar. Unfortunately, much of today's music released by various labels have overly compressed songs anyway, which spoils the listening experience. This is more of a widespread sound engineering problem of the modern era and is a common complaint of many. This doesn't reflect on the artists original recordings as much as their production company's final mixing and mastering. The final result seems to be hit or miss proposition where the sound quality of one song sounds fairly good while another by the same artists sounds muddy with poor separation of instruments. That said, Band-Maid's "After Life" is still a very good song and exhibits the hard driving sound of the band mixed with a bit of over-the-top humor. It is enjoyably entertaining, and one can quite fine with just that, despite the annoying KZfaq compression.

Humorous in it's way considering that Miku (rhythm guitar and B/U vocals) worked in the maid cafe in the opening shot. The images and action in the MV don't exactly "match" the lyrics but who cares, another banger!

Nice brutal reaction. Brutal for sure. As a certified Maidiac, I’m happy to find someone who has reasons why they like or dislike something. The unique nature of this band is rooted in fearlessness. They will try new sounds, new gear, completely new genres and just throw it out there. And because we all tend to have our personal tastes, there’s really no way for someone to love everything they do. I’m confident that you will find some of their work quite innovative and interesting. And possibly enjoyable to your brutal ears. I have several song ideas for you to try, but I’m not sure exactly which one. There’s one music video, very stark setting…that one is unbelievable…but based on what you have said? I think it’s best for me to pitch you a live performance. That narrows it down to three…I need to watch them all again first… Okay. “Puzzle,” official live video. Tokyo Garden Theater 2023

Stick to their live stuff. There's plenty on their KZfaq channel.

It might be headphones, but it might just be that you won’t be a fan of the most current era of Band Maid. There is certainly a section of the fan base that prefers their older style more. I say all of this because Afterlife and the album it’s on is when they really lean heavily into their prog rock style. It’s defined by its complexity. All of the musicians are playing pretty complex things and it’s all layered on top of one another. For some people this is amazing, for others it’s a mess. I don’t think it’s the MV vs live thing. While the live versions are loved, the mix in them is usually far muddier than the MVs. I think a good test of this theory would be watching an older MV, like Dice or Choose Me and seeing if it’s just a style preference.

I love this video and Don't you Tell Me video. I love Maids getting fed up and wrecking havoc. That's Rock and Roll! I love comedy and we all know that BandMaid has its share of comedians! I like the sound even if Rick Beato doesn't.

@@chrisegbertkyI gave up on this reaction just past the half way mark because I clearly saw where it was going. So I didn't see the end, but did he actually mention that hack of hypocrite Rick Beato? If so, then that would explain everything.

Is there “life after” Band-Maid? Maybe. But it won't be the same. And I'd miss my aching 9 year smile. Miku's "after life" came once she quit the maid café thing and started Band-Maid. Thank you Miku! And thank you LegStud, for bringing Band-Maid to your great viewers!

I demand that you do the next Band-Maid reaction wearing a maid costume. I actually do like this song, the video not so much. I wouldn't say that the audio isn't awful here but it's not the greatest.. I highly doubt that a better recording would change things for you though. The song is kind of what it is.

I think the video is funny but it is pretty distracting. I enjoy it a lot more without the video...that being said don't let you dislike of maid outfits affect your like of the band. They are so much more than maid outfits.

You hit on one problem I have with BAND-MAID (and I say this as a BAND-MAID fan myself): compression. BAND-MAID studio/album recordings have far too much compression. I think the songs are still awesome, but they could be EPIC if they didn't stifle the dynamics so much during mixing & mastering. To be fair, this is far from a specific BAND-MAID problem; excessive dynamic compression is a cancer that has invaded almost all music production since the loudness war started in the early 90's or so. It is mostly classical & jazz that seem to have held on to higher technical standards.

I like an honest review. I love this song, but it really shines when they play it live. In fact it is a phenomenal live song!

Yeah, this is one of the problems with reaction videos...viewers don't know beforehand which videos you're reacting to. If they did they could provide the much-needed context to help understand the concept of the video. I notice you seem very uninterested in that so I ask you this...if you were the director, how would you convey the message of the song onscreen?

It's a very good question you pose. Thanks for that! I appreciate when someone is willing to bring a solid question to the table vs. just stirring up a pot of "GOTCHA". So, being as frank as I can. There is a reason why I steer clear of this sort of content for myself on a daily basis. I find music videos to be very fake as my personal brain tries to process them. I find the imagery often grasping at straws to either connect your brain with the song, or cause an effect I like to call "Dissonance" which is a purposeful attack on your emotions and senses to make "discomfort". I find I am directly effected by this because if my background and daily job now as a videographer specializing in small documentary shoots and podcast resources. My brain is trained and honed to spot "Fakery" and I love beauty in the "subtlety" of highly trained actors who know how to be "real" in their performances. SO, how does it tie in with music videos? Two words... "It doesn't..." (In many cases) and that is the main reason why I don't pay much attention to the video production and editing techniques deployed in the story telling. (Until my ADHD brain runs with it which I have done MANNNNNNY times in the past in my videos) My audience that comes back over and over know I am here to cover "MUSICALITY". I liken it to sipping a fine wine or smoking an aromatic tobacco with your eyes closed while sampling the nuances that make up a result. The video is more for my audience than it is for me because in this case... I had just gotten done training a team for 10 hours how to use their new podcasting gear, and shooting a video documentary at the same time. My brain was pooped. So while I react to songs, and discuss things like costumes, acting, and the dreaded choreography (totally kidding guys) my main goal is tuning in my ears to simply hearing the details, shutting down my other senses and focusing in on the tones. So thats where I focus my review on. Thanks again for the question! While I know that wasn't the answer you would hope, it does explain my line of thinking and direction I take my videos.

If you already know that about yourself in advance, why even bother watching MVs in the first place. If you're saying that the fakery of MV's is an issue for you., why not just stick to watching Live Performances. In cases where there is no live footage just close your eyes and listen to the music, since that is what you say your focus is. I'm just not quite sure how or why imagery need play a role in the appreciation of sound. It's 1 thing to not like an MV or an aesthetic it's another to not like the music, but to use 1 as precursor reason for not liking the other is just plain inexcusable.

5 young ladies from Japan wearing maid outfits..shock horror!, put them beside bands like Kiss, Gwar, Slipknot & Ghost etc, etc. What they wear does not take anything away from their musicality.
