His grandfather had a real complex about his heirs prioritizing anything over his expectations for them, coupled with his ban on romantic connections with mortals. Susu would have been executed quickly after giving birth if Ye Hua had done anything to intervene for her. Ye Hua's real error was not being honest with her about who he was, the danger of their relationship being discovered, and the details of his plans for their future. His failure to communicate led to nearly every downtown in their marriage.

Though the saddest scene for me, the one that never fails to make me tear up, 😢 is Mark Chao's wonderful acting when Ye Hua was about to sacrifice himself to re-light the soul-gathering lamp and his uncle stopped him. I feel like it’s not out of character. It was actually so in character because Bai qian as she says is very clear between love and hate. She doesn’t tolerate it when someone hurts her. Think about her relationship with the demon lord. She noped out of that relationship so quickly. She was fresh out of her tribulation so her emotional stability at that time was in shambles too. She didn’t consider her child because she was still so hurt by the pain of Yehwa’s betrayal that she didn’t stop to think of other matters. It was so painful she doesn’t want to think even about it. I believe if she instead decided to sleep on it before deciding to take the potion, she would have cleared her head even just a tiny bit to storm into the heavenly realm to take her kid and eyes back before drinking the forgetful potion. Qingqiu is more lenient and carefree than the heavenly realm, for sure she doesn’t want her child to be confined and constrained in that place to be pressured and mentally abused there. But at that time right there, the pain was so fresh… too fresh to even be rational enough to look past the pain and think of other things than the pain. But if she did took some time to calm down and think to take her kid back, that would garner a war between qingqiu and the heavenly realm. Our story would take on a different turn. By allowing Bai qian to return when Yehwa finally let go of susu by putting out the soul reviving lamp or whatever it was, it actually brought a reunion thats sweet and full of relief at least in Yehwa’s perspective. Bai Qian forgetting Yehwa is the perfect retribution for him. Believing that his wife is truly gone without a chance of coming back for 300 years and when she did eventually came back, having no recollection of what happened at all. No hate, no love. And finally, the revenge on Sujin was more satisfying in the viewers’ eyes.

@@yapibunnyyanny9291 Thanks for the quality reply. You make some good points. I agree if she would have slept on it, she might not have taken the potion. If she had stormed back up to there after upgrading, I'm guessing she would not have been allowed to break the engagement given their royal status and them already having a child. She would only have been able to just get a mild form of justice for political reasons compared to having Ye Hua tormented thinking her dead for 300 years and it being partially his fault for not being honest with her about his identity and for not being able to protect her from his family. So yeah the way it worked out may have been a bit more satisfying at least in regards to Ye Hua. Still poor A Li. It worked out though. Very entertaining show.

A Li is really a special case as far as immortal kids go, though. Think about it. For immortals, if you have a child during a mortal trial, you'll probably never see them again after you die because you're essentially just playing a role. Bai Qian didn't choose to have a child. Su Su chose to marry and have a child. Bai Qian didn't even choose to have a mortal trial. She just got thrown into that whole situation, so when she came out of it, she had a difficult time separating what was HER and what was Su Su. Plus, it's been too long and I don't remember now, but did Bai Qian even know she was engaged to Ye Hua already when she chose to forget him? I feel like that was something that didn't come up until after she'd recovered from the memory drug. I'm pretty sure Su Su heard at some point that Ye Hua was engaged to Bai Qian of Qing Qiu, but since she didn't know what any of that meant, she might have forgotten it, and Bai Qian was too exhausted to remember that information before choosing to forget everything.

@@IzzyKawaiichi More good points. I'm not sure if she knew about the engagement before the trial. I still can't see Bai Qian not storming back up there. It's a glitch in the show for me.

@@HappyinJesus I think it may also be because she already knew that Dongfang Qingcang was going to break out of the bell sooner or later, and she was preoccupied with trying to revive Mo Yuan. Like "in the grand scheme of things, this was devastating for me personally, but the world has more pressing matters at hand, and I can't be distracted."
