@@alescervinka7501 Is this a real question? AI is a tool, it has a function, I literally work with AI daily in my normal job. I am making a statement about Generative AI, specifically about art generated by LLMs and similar technology. Those are derivative arts trained and amalgamated from existing art to which neither the programmer or company that owns that art has rights. AI, in its current form is not capable of independent or creative thought. It has many uses and can make society better. AI doctor, lawyer and other high skill jobs can benefit greatly from AI assistants. It is not seeking to, nor could it come close to replacing these high skill professionals. This isn't complicated, nor worth mincing specific words over. If the AI is trained on a controlled data set for a purpose, and the owners of the AI and the Data both agree to that training, then AI can be empowering and assistive. If AI is running through the internet, supermarket sweep style and stealing images and then amagamating them into a frankenstienian creation, then this is not okay. Let's not pretend or play stupid.

@@VinceVenturella You just described what humans do. I see no reason to treat silicon based intelligence different than carbon based. Only difference is carbon based intelligence can produce small amount of finite stuff. I think now the potential to create stuff will increase exponentially. Next year everyone will be able to create hollywood style movies at home. Everyone will be free to create incredible art, be it music, movies or comics. Saying that artists using Ai are stealing is damaging to the whole creative field.

For stormcast they need to definitely trim the range. I'd suggest they combine warscrolls. Heraldors and aquillors are one warscroll now. All foot priests are 1 warscroll. All paladins are one warscroll. It doesn't matter what model you have, you use the same rules. I doubt they'll get that heavy with the pruning, but I can hope.

$5 bet modular just means “you can totally not use this rule if you and your friends want to!” And 99% of play will not omit anything in order to play “true” sigmar.

Funny you mention the burning the skaven army in celebration. When the Soulblight Gravelords came out and we got new skeletons, zombies and dire wolves. I literally smashed my old skeletons to pieces and used them as base decorations for my bigger Soulblight monsters, so I get it. I did essentially the same thing

I started my first Army this year. Just rounding the corner on 1500 points and when I look at my force it feels complete. I have 20 Saurus, 3 Kroxigors, a Carnasaur, a Slann, and one of the salamander lizards. If this amount of stuff was 2K I would be super stoked with that! It would let me play more “full” games that would influence my future army decisions. Maybe I’d go damn I wish I had some more speed and go that direction, or more monsters and go there, or I might see a whole different army and go wow I want to do that instead! Lower model counts mean more games, means more fun!

A magic module could just just mean advance form of magic. Like all units can use their warscroll spells but in order to use faction spell lore or endless spells you need the optional magic module. Modules are just a complexity scale to enhance the core experience.

I’m happy about the ‘less janky’ movement. A big ‘wtf’ moment as a new player in 3rd was an experienced player showing me how to do the coherency ‘zig-zag’ formation to get more guys in and I just didn’t want to bother when I only had 3 hours to play

Thankfully we have just had an example of GW being able to roll out an index edition with the past year of 10th edition 40K. You don't need to buy the index cards. They DID provide a road map for at least the first year of 40K so you can accurately gauge whether or not you want to pay the $25-$35 for the physical cards, or are just as fine and just as informed using the free pfd version of the physical cards. There are no physical index books, just index cards/warscroll cards at launch for every faction. I have zero fears about this given how well they handled 10th edition 40K. Not to mention I would imagine there will be an overhaul of the AoS app where all of the index warscolls and army rolls would be available. The overhaul they did to the 40K app is so functional and well thought out.

Some armies need fewer point increases than others. Sylvaneth is already tastefully elite. Options are already pretty tight.

While they're billing the modular rules system as giving players the ability to simply choose not to engage with parts of the rules that they don't like, I think under the hood GW is assuming virtually everyone will play with all of the matched play modules. The real reason they're breaking it up into modular pieces is so they can completely rewrite sections of the rules without having to worry about creating a mess where you need to cross-reference 8 documents to play with errata. They've basically applied some software design principles to their game and are decoupling services within the previously monolithic ruleset.

3 inches for melee is pretty generous. That means, if you're fighting in straight lines: 40mm base units like Ogor Gluttons can fight in 2 ranks. 32mm base units like 'Ardboyz can fight in 3 ranks. 25mm base units like Stormvermin can feasibly fight in 4 ranks, with 25mm being just under an inches.

The AoS roadmap should be similar to 40k. This year will probably see 4 battletomes. Stormcast and Skaven will check the order and chaos boxes. Like 40k one of the other 2 will be an order faction as they have the most battletomes same as the Imperium does in 40k. My guess for the other 2 battletomes will be factions that dont need any major refreshes considering the big 4th edition launch productions, on top of 40k and Old World still pumping out new stuff too. AoS may do a similar thing where some factions just get a single new unit or model. espcially those like FEC and Serpahon who just got big refreshes

My Biggest hopes are for an universal ability with the name “enchanted weapons”; a 6 to wound causes a mortal wound, and then we never have to deal with the 6 to hit mortals totally out of bounds. And my second wish is for line of sight to be drawn base to base, and any terrain in the way is either light or heavy, giving you either cover or unable to be shot. no more “true line of sight”. And finally I’d hoped we just got good scenarios and could throw the battle tactics in the river alongside battle tomes for rules; give me dense faction books overflowing with lore and maps and cool things, and just make the rules a downloadable pdf, don’t bring the stupid rules into my lore! 😊

The simplified weapon profiles, PLEASE. I play Tzaangors. One time I had a unit fight with Stabbaz, with Netters in it that debuffed parts of my unit. I rolled like seven different weapon profiles.

AOS is already the smaller army game though. You run quite a bit less units than 40K No I already think some models are ridiculously expensive like five elite infantry being a quarter of your army or one GUO being nearly a quarter.

On the point on size of force and points, considering the rules coming over from 40K 10th, if they follow 40K expect bigger forces versus points. My 9th ed Necron 2,000pt army is now worth around 1,800pts. Same across all factions from what I hear and one of the biggest gripes with 40K 10th.

Someone I know and definitely not me was watching Valrak...and his theory for why we didn't see models is a response to a proliferation of 3D printing models very similar to the models they showed off for 40K before 10th released. Something about the images of the revealed models being scanned and rendered. It's from Valrak but if true would be for IP protection.

My head-canon for this addition: Abraxia is going to shove that spear right through Archaon's chest on behest of the other Chaos god's for Archaon allowing the Skaven to rise into the pantheon. But low an behold a glittering and reformed chaos god appears broken free from its prison - with a flick of its well-manicured fingers we see the lumbering shadow of Dorghar appear, but the silhouette has changed... a new demonic head presides prominently among the others sprouted from his chest and a revitalized Archaon astride his faithful steed!

Most of my true AoS hopes and dreams are Ogor Mawtribes related. However instead of writing out a fan tome here I will beseech the Gulping God for a solid foundation of warscrolls to build upon.

I really hope they do something about hordes in aos. A skirmish game with hordes is a nightmare to move around. Going to wait until we get all of thenofficial 4th edition stuff, but I think my skaven are going to get rebased for TOW just because I don't want to move that many tiny models around. Love the army in so many ways, I just hate the AOS play experience.

Looking at the Stormcast Spearhead box, and I already have parts that came in Dominion, but I've yet to pick up the Stormstrike Chariot or Vanquishers. I could do with a quick couple boxes and having a Spearhead box already done.

As far as the big lizard goes... I have a similar problem to the Tomb Kings bone dragon. The low tail and head, with the big hump in the middle. Just like the FEC model that Vince kitbashed.

Another thought on prepping an army for an edition. Always hard with GW, although in general I always find balanced armies survive best. However, another route is to not be bound to a single rule system. I build armies now, and know I will find a system to use them with

The existing Vanguard boxes are already 'half or one third of a full army'. A lot of them contain upwards of 700pts worth of models.

I Really Hope we will get to see the Chaos Dwarfs return. Preferably using the Forge World design It would also be nice to get a Lore blurp on how (if it is indeed the same god they worship) how their managed to survive being killed or devoured by Gork and Mork. Also side question since GW apperently is brining back the old metal models, will we get another 2 hour long speech from Vincent and the others about their "love" for plastik horse body's and metal wings... And metal miniatures in general.

There was no problem with the PDF’s for the 40k indexes. We’re they perfect for printing, no, but they were printable adequately for use. Or you could use a laptop or iPad. The printed cards were $25 to $35 depending on how many units the faction had.

Reason to get fewer models on the table is just that a lot of the horde models are being replaced by more detailed, slower to paint and more expensive box sets.

I would hope the warcry wouldn’t get removed from S2D. They got me into the army, are very cool and new models, and most of them have unique little functions. I.e. I’ve recently been trying to use scions of the flame for my aqshy themed army for crowd control and screening

Some armies could do with getting smaller, but Beasts of Chaos seem like they’ve already had their cull. My army from the previous book went up to almost 3,000 points and lost summoning. I think they are probably at the right place now and going smaller would be weird for them thematically

At this point I'm unfortunately not going to commit to an AoS edition unless the games last less than 3 hours and the rules last more than 3 years. Don't have enough time in the day to spend time learning a game that gets rewritten at this frequency. Love the models though.

It looks to me like GW is running the 10th ed 40k playbook for AoS 4.0. I would expect to see more similarities brought over.

Valid points in the index cards. I bought 3 or 4 for 40k though and i really love em. I just write the changes. If any on the card and that's working so far.

Good episode. I don't think small armies will happen if 40k is the model, but I'd like it. I am finishing armies for a variety of games, the AoS is between 3 and 5 times the size of others, part of that is the army but not all. Indexes to me are good, I wouldn't of played 40k without and all the time the 3 year cycle is a thing beyond 2 armies I will just use the indexes through the edition. I hope spearhead is good, I also hope 750 to 1000 point games ate good. I also hope the game backs away from mostly decidedby turn 3 or become a 3 turn game. I also would like to see heroes buffing just one unit, and the allegiances being less spam oriented and with less mass rules layering.

My hope is that the rules will make it easier for me to just play an occasional casual game. I could do it in 2e, but the balancing of the factions was terrible, and I happened to pick two of the weakest armies because they looked cool, so I always got stomped. I couldn't really do it in 3e, because the increase in complexity meant it was just a never-ending sequence of "oh, I guess I should have done X last turn, because now I can't do Y and I lose the game."

I'd be fine with raising point costs if, and only if, they at the same time balance the rules for 6000p+ games for those of us who want to play an actual army game instead of the skirmish game you seem to want.

I mostly play Sons specifically because I don’t have to run so many models. I love the way horde armies look on the table, but playing multiple games hunched over a table with a ton of models is not fun anymore

Selling physical components at launch with the index can be done well. What they could do when a battletome releases and instead of selling us a new pack of warscrolls just include the new model's scroll with the battletome. We know they have the technology its been done with Dawnbringers 1.

This is gonna be THE edition of 1-3 annoying Clanrats/hobgrots/goblins holding an elite unit in place, completely wasting their potential. Who knows, maybe they'll allow certain elite units to charge away out of combat?

I think Tom is way too worried of the online index. For warcry reset, they had the whole index books available for free online. You could print yourself the whole book with art and rules or just the rules. Probably a trial run of aos new launch

I'm not sure you got the point about objectives correct. One of the articles on WHC says "and now you can contest an objective with a model within 3" of a 40mm objective marker." Since the old objectives were just single points with a 3" radius, now we're talking about a radius that's 20mm plus 3". That would make the objectives larger would it not? Am I missing something?

Old objectives (existing) are 6" from a 1mm point, (6" radius), so it's larger, much larger.

There's no way they can playtest enough to discover that one crazy interaction that 1 of the 10,000 tournament players discovers that completely ruins a faction. The first few months of 4.0 are going to be the wild west, no matter how much they've playtested before release.

I wasnt that interested in AoS - but warcry, and the enthusiasm here is deffo drawing me in. Deffo interested to see what spearhead looks like - sub 1.5hr games feels like a sweetspot

As someone who disliked 3rd from the start i cant wait for 4th, i hope it brings everything back to 2nd editions levels of enjoyment and so far it looks to be that. Bout time frankly. Turns out that appealing to the casual player base is infact more profitable all along.... Shocked pikachu. My personal hopes and dreams is basically anything for dwarfs, Anything at this point.

Will we see Dark Elves (Shadow Elves) return in 4.0, we can always dream but it will probably not happen. I want a new Dark Elves leader on black dragon model and heavy armored troops.

IMO if the Kroot can be the singular focus for the Tau 10th edition model releases, then Elves or Dwarves could be the singular focus for a CoS 4e release. On the subject of wishes for 4.0, I want named characters to take more of a back seat to generic heroes. I love them for the story and their models are universally awesome, but I don't like how many armies are forced to run 1-3 named heroes in a balanced list. IMO it takes away from your army being 'your dudes'. Kroak, most of the Mortarchs, Zenestra, and Kragnos are some of my big offenders.

@1:27:00 What it does mean, is that buyer should be aware. 40k indexes were a trainwreck, so based on a 'known' a consumer must assess this as a 'known' risk. GW has always struggled with rules & balance, and being stuck with a bad index for ~2 years is going to be a crap experience. 1:36:00 - beastmen, bonesplitters probably going to go. Spiderclan as said; dwarfs and elves out of cities; probably anything else that is still a fantasy sculpt such as the classic slannesh mortals. Underworlds warbands to be taken out because they're a FOMO product for a side game.

"Reactivity in you opponents turn" just sounds like it is going to make the game take longer and have more gotcha command cards. Just make the game alternating activations ffs.

Yeah i hated the reactions in third, it was just annoying, either give us alternating activations or dont do it at all instead of this irritating middling system they did before.

1:05:00 But some say that you have to play at 2000 points or you're not playing the game. If you raise all the points by 30% then you no longer have enough army to include all the tools you need to play a 'proper' game. If you want fewer models on the table just play at 1500 points or 1200 points. It is allowed. Or raise the points and people like me (who like a bigger army) can play at 2500 points? Turns out it doesn't really matter very much. I suppose it matters for events, but why does 2000 points have to be 'the correct' points level? Clearly it isn't if we're having this debate.

I think, to make a simplified statement, I want the new AoS to be made for the wide base. Extra rules for those who want gotcha moments because their opponent doesn't know all the small things is something that can be bolted on far away from me. I want "narrative" to mean emergent storytelling during the game, not recreating some battle they wrote about. I want it to be easy to get people playing it, I don't want to feel bad for telling people to pick up some models and come play with me knowing the nested dangers lurking under the surface.

And I definitely want to see smaller armies like you were saying. It's way more achievable to build and paint and just means I can more freely follow flights of fancy and collect 2 armies in the time it would take to get 1 on the table.

My wish for 4th is no more multiple armies in one book. Coalesced and Starborne? Different armies, different points and indexes. Kruleboyz and Ironjawz? Two battletomes

I'm with HeyWoah on the cutting armies point - it's a shitty thing to do at this stage in the game. The time to say "Beastmen are not a part of this world going forward" was when they canned WFB, not four editions in to the new game with them being a main army. Also, if they bin Retributors after the amount of time I spent painting all the trim on those stupid things I will be less than amused. Also make Paladors good please dear God, turn the wheel please.

Perhaps, but if you're making a big change, now is the time. The reality is, they can't support all ranges forever, things get retired. These big changes are the time to make cuts.

AI art on that backdrop is interesting. I'm going to avoid touching the AI art debate. If you're going to do a backdrop, and you can't hire someone else to do your backdrop, then you shouldn't be able to get AI to do it. It's simple. Otherwise, everyone should hire someone on Skeb to do a beautiful landscape for you in photoshop and put it on the piece.

I wish you bought one tome during the edition, maybe a core rule book on top as a compromise for GW, but then you are GOOD for the rest of the edition….because you should get access to digital rule books that can be patched with your physical book purchase. Like your first tome is just S2D 3.0, and if Slaves to Darkness gets a new tome, your book becomes S2D 3.1 in the app. Same with General’s Handbook.
