17:15 So the way it works is you use the Deploy Regiment ability. And that tells you to keep using Deploy abilities until the regiment is done. The Celestial Realm is a deploy ability so when you're given the opportunity you can use it instead of the Deploy Unit ability. It's a little wonky at first but it's super clear once you put all the pieces in the same place to see how it works

Any tips on getting a mini off its base without damaging it? Currently I use my dremel tool and come up through the base till I hit the feet and I pitch the base. It works most of the time but on bigger bases sometimes it hard to judge exactly where the feet are.

Hey Vince! I'm new to the hobby and I have a question about your air brush setup! I had assumed that I'd need to create my hobbyspace out in my garage because of the potential danger of air brush particles but I noticed that you (and many other YT creators) just have it indoors! If im painting with standard mini-painting acrylics is it safe to remain indoors with just an air brush tent and a few open windows?

Very useful to see them over the different colours. I hadn't thought much about it, assuming over black would be fine, but I guess it makes sense for the type of paints they are. Thank you.

"You cannot paint perfectly on your first try, whatever the time spent" Boy do I want to close my ears to that one. I’m about to dive back into the hobby and I watch bazillions of videos to make sure I get amazing results from day 1... Ending up with pricy miniatures covered in colored shame is hard to accept.

Do you think you will see the claukiness of pure white if you are only using it for the glints of eyes and such? My brain tells me that you will not notice the difference unless you are painting over a larger area. Perhaps I am wrong?

Another great and informative video, but one thing no one seems to mention is how long are you leaving between different techniques or layers? My main issue is that, for instance, I'll apply an overall oil wash as you have here, but when I go back later to do more localised staining or streaking, I pull the previous wash off. Am I being impatient? Do I need to wait several days rather than just overnight? Or am I doing something else wrong? Thanks.

Feels bad that I'm saying this but here goes. I've only painted a couple of stormcast, and aside from the new liberators, I didn't realise how many of these new models are female, or at least wearing female armor pieces, until it was pointed out in this stream. The front-and-centre reclusian reveal had female armour, the front-and-centre prosecutor reveal had female armour, and 2/3 of the revealed prosecutors have female armour. But other than the armour, nothing reads obviously female about these models, including the heads, which is as far as I can tell is a departure from previous models. I suspect the majority of people will read these as male models, and buy the box not knowing otherwise. There are comments on the reveal YT videos, and in reddit threads such as "he looks cool", etc. GW even hit love themselves on one such comment! The only mentions of them being female I found are a couple of replies to correct the people who assumed they are male. I'd love to say this doesn't bother me but it does. Most buyers will have no clue these models are female (or at least wearing female amour or whatever GW think they're achieving here). I've been looking at these models for a while and have only just realised myself, and well, I feel somewhat gaslit, and my desire for the new models has now gone. I'm willing to bet that the 99% of buyers would want their supposedly male and female models to read somewhat obviously as such. I'm all for more model diversity for inclusive and aesthetic reasons, but this... ain't it. A part of me wonders if this is a deliberately planned and insidious move on GW's part (to normalize androgenous modeling, because it's easier and pleases no-one and everyone). But perhaps more likely (and I sincerely hope this is the actual reason), it's a shoddy late-stage modeling adjustment along the lines of, "Oh whoops we need more female models... umm, swap for female chest pieces and BAM!".

Well, if you're using acrylics, you can take the paint off. But, that's only if you're planning on taking off ALL the paint and not just a particular section. I had to remove paint multiple times in my process of trying to learn how to use an airbrush. Just use alcohol and make sure you wash the alcohol off with some sort of cleaner, such as dish soap, Simple Green, 409 or...whatever and then rinsing it off with plain water immediately after getting the paint off. And, even with enamels, you can get the paint off using thinner but it's a tedious process and then you have to make sure you don't leave it on too long and wash it all off using a cleaner and then rinsing it off.

As a new painter, something I am struggling with pretty hard and can't find good videos to explain it is how far around an object a highlight should "wrap" or stretch? How large should the darkest tone be on the bottom side? I know depending on what it's suppose to represent (skin, leather, metal, cloth, silk, linen, etc..) changes the amounts of these but that's the basic steps I am looking for so I don't bash my head against the wall trying to figure it out blindly. Thanks for the awesome videos!
@VinceVenturella
@VinceVenturella Күн бұрын
The answer is unfrotuantely, complex, as you say, it has to do with the surface material and so on. But here is a simple cheat, prime in satin black, put it under your painting lamp, take a picture, work within the reflective areas.

@@VinceVenturella I would love a video of someone painting basic shapes (squares, cones, spheres, cylinders) in different “types” of materials. Paint a sphere to look metal, to look leather, plastic, etc… I think a series like that would be amazing for new painters. Or I’m just selfishly hopeful haha!

Good video! I will say, though... watching your videos (and a lot of other channels dealing with miniature painting), I continue to be confused by the absence of P3 paints. Since Warmachine MKII came out, I dropped Citadel in favor of P3, and have no regrets. I have a lot (and have tried MANY MORE) paints over the years, but P3 as a range (and ESPECIALLY their metallics!) is always my go-to. Now, I fell out of love with PP as a company around the time I and all the other Pressgangers were dumped/CID was started/etc. etc., so I'm DEFINITELY not just fanboying over them as a company, but imo the quality of their paint range is criminally underrated, unrepresented, and essentially absent within the KZfaq painting community. Pig Iron, Deathless Metal, Blighted Gold, Rhulic Gold, Galvanized Steel, Cold Steel... just some of their great metallic range. Is there a reason for this lack of usage by painters that I'm unaware?
@VinceVenturella
@VinceVenturella 2 күн бұрын
Sure, simple explanation, they are in pots and hard to generally find at local stores. It's nothing more complicated than that. I actually like P3, but I generally find pots quite annoying. Sam Lenz is a fan of them, but the range is sadly quite hard to find.
@MarkFSanders
@MarkFSanders Күн бұрын
@@VinceVenturella fair enough. I totally agree with you about the pots: I always throw them in a dropper bottle when I get them. And for that matter, I do agree that they're not the most common. I just love their workability, covered, and the tones you can get out of them. Now, to binge more of your vids😎

I have stripped my armies several times. I think after 2 years of painting, my paint coats were already thin enough and didn't need stripping. Stripping is also a painful process, the liquid you're handling are usually not pleasant to say the list, or toxic, often both. Even if you have an ultrasonic cleaner some removal are still required to properly remove all the layers. Using a toothbrush takes too much time, and using an electric toothbrush will make the liquids fly everywhere, and your landlord will not be happy. If the coats were already all gone, and you didn't need to brush them off, that probably means you really didn't need to strip it in the first place. The environment is really nasty, and usually I don't want to reuse those liquids, so I always end up cleaning dozens of minis at a time. Remember, it's really nasty. The last time I stripped my army was 2022, I made some painful decisions and stripped off a lot, then I realized I already had the money and space to just start an exact same army, but regrets couldn't bring those paintings back. I still haven't finished repainting them

I know it's been a while since you posted this video, but how would you represent eyes behind the goggles? I have a goblin model where the art shows his eyes as little white streaks behind his goggles, would you just use white/ivory over top of the lens? Thanks!

This is a very tough effect, in general my advice would be - don't do that. So the very complicated answer is you paint the eyes, then you paint the color and transition transparently over the top so it looks like they are beneath the transluscent glass, you need the reflection shine and light catch and so on.

I've given away my SCE from the 2nd and 3rd ed boxes because they just had no character to me at all and I was disinterested. The Skaventide SCE sculpts, however, feel so human. They look desperate, ragged, like veterans who have been reforged over and over again. Maybe GW is pulling a meta-joke on us by releasing them as golden Sigmarines, and then slowly releasing more dire sculpts. Who knows. I like this show, and I like Vince. 👍
