I was really hoping there'd be a genestealer cult box, their combat patrol box seems pretty decent but another box with different stuff as a one two punch to get started on them would have been great.

They’ll probably get one soon but the theme of using all the big heroic powerful characters in the battle forces this year wouldn’t have worked with the gsc, as their biggest character is the patriarch. Unfortunately they are pretty much one of the few armies that couldn’t fit that

the idoneth deepkin are loads of fun to paint up for aos. bright colors and lots of fish and eels makes for a unique experience when compared to painting other armies

Sucks they didn't do a ironjawz battle box. I always resist the urge to get into age of sigmar and an ironjawz battle box would convince me. Maybe next year.

In defense of the Kruleboyz box, the Kruleboyz half of Dominion is super cheap (like around $50 last time I check) so this box is a perfect addition if you want to start a Kruleboyz army.

I think your black + highlight is good. I have struggled with my Templars as well and the ones that I’m happiest with so far are contrast black with a drybrush of incubi darkness to tint/highlight a little.

You always point out how much cheaper and better plastic is than resin but that is only for the consumer. The set up and scale of resin to plastic it huge. Metal injection molds cost five digits(it was about 10 years ago that I was dealing with that kind of stuff but I can’t imagine it has come down). A mold to cast a single character frame in resin is like $100 (and that is a waaay overestimate). Also forgeworld is their test bed to see if anyone is interested first. Or if it is something that a less popular faction needs but gw is unwilling to put that upfront cost on…at the end of the day it is all profit margins and costs. Their business isn’t to keep you happy, it’s to make money for investors

I painted my Tempestus Scions to look kind of like the Kerberos squad from the movie Jin Roh...to make my black look more interesting, I took Corvus Black and added just the tiniest amount of Vulkan Green to make it a sort of olive-black.

Gloomspite gitz are so much fun! Every squig in another color, every troll his own funky shade and all the gitz in black uniforms, such a good looking and fun to paint army

For black armor I go black coat to light dry brush of Iron Warrior then contact black temple then I just go in and fix the things I need to after to get a clean look.

For black: Try paint in colored shadows/ atmosphere light. In same fashion try different hues to highlight. Not just 1 hue of gray. (Eg green and red)

Regarding the Dominion Box: It is a great box and I have 3 of them. The SCE are completely painted & I heavily look into the SCE Battleforce. The Kruleboys are also cool and I'll love to make them another project sometime later. I'm personally very happy the made so many, so I can, if I want, get another one for a good price. The 2nd edition box "soul wars" is also still in stock in some stores, so I guess, not Dominion is the exception, but Indomitus was.

As a Raven Guard army collector, I agree with how black can be hard - though it has a silver lining. Because it's black you can just do edge highlights and if you pump the contrast on the edges, it just looks wicked (Using dawnstone and administratum over it - no blue tints here) and you barely have to do anything to it

If you want to paint a colorful Star Wars: Legion mini, get Sabine Wren. And given that the character kept repainting her armor throughout the seasons of Star Wars: Rebels, you can always come up with a new one.

I bought last years daughters of khaine box, it was very good I felt. I have more than enough apart from morathi for that army. I got the soulblight gravelord box for my other half last year too. I bought hh:AoD instead of a battle box this year though. If I can find the stormcast or gloomspit box in a couple of weeks I might consider one though as dragons and squigs. Oh, and remember that kitbash video, you suggested the draconian lord for the salamanders, that as chaplain and the squad of 3 smaller (but same base as outriders still) for the unit might work better. £36 for 3, plus £26 the hero model. Much cheaper if you get second hand of course, and can probably get just the mounts if required.

The battle boxes are very specific rather than varied. For instance the mechanics has cawl who is built for mars lists, the deathguard has Mortarion so really you may as well use it to expand your DG army rather than start it and the imperial fists and raven guard ones speak for themselves however to a lesser degree in my opinion. For future boxes I think a more varied box would be better.

I’m honestly struggling to find a use case for why you’d want 3 units of heavy intercessors. They feel like something you place on backfield objectives, and there’s usually only one of those. Add a second unit for redundancy, maybe. Though if it ends up priced cheaply enough I’d be tempted to steal it for my Dorn successors in the Templars - I wouldn’t mind one backfield camper that’s tough to shift, and the aggressors will be hilarious fun in the arks of omen close quarters

Trust me as a Sylvaneth player who's just started, those Dryads are a bitch to put together, mostly because they are old WFB moulds with ridiculous mould lines on tiny twig branches..... it's small and fiddly and coming from space Marines it's quite a challenge, buuuut I love them, they drybrush with contrasts as a base so the paint up is quick and comes up really nicely

I'm going to be mean and say that both deathtroopers are too grey, especially the extra highlighted one. What I did with those guys is paint them black, highlight them with dark grey, then medium grey and finally brush on gloss varnish on the armour. Besides all the collourly bits.

The Gutrippaz in this set are different builds to the ones in Dominion and, importantly, come with musicians and banner boyz which you don't get in the Dominion box. If you do a bit of kit bashing you can get two musicians and two banner boyz from this and add them to your Dominion box for 2 full untils with all the options, but you'll need to go with the spear option rather than the sword option

Daughters of Khaine Cauldron is more than that. If they put everything in this set, then there is also Snake Lady, Bloodwrack Medusa for "Bloodwrack Shrine" version of Cauldron. Build like that you have then Hag Queen, Slaughter Queen and Avatar of Khain as separate models to place on battlefield.

FW kits are utter shit, but the models they do are amazing. I have Cerastus Knight and it is amazing but I still shudder when I had to put it together and all the warping... jaysus feck!
