THANK YOU for the enormous amount of work you’re putting into this No bad dogs-mission. I’m a journalist in television in Denmark, so I KNOW how many many hours goes behind a video like this. So just wanted you to know how grateful I am for your work 🙏🏻 I have a male Spanish water dog who’s 11 months old, and we both really benefitted from this balanced training. In Denmark the official kennel club excludes any owner who corrects their dog during any training - they only use positive training. So we’ve struggled a lot, because it hasn’t been working. You taught me (in one of your podcast episodes) that this breed (strong working breed, both herding, hunting and guarding) needs a strong leader and a leader with very clear boundaries and rules, and it has revolutionized our world. There’s still a lot of progress ahead, but this balanced approach makes it so much more fun - now it truly feels like training and not like work. Whoops, wanted to keep it short. I could go on for a while. Anyway - thank you, Tom!

It's so common to see these insecure-type reactive GSDs. It's always amazing to watch the transformation that can occur with them once simply given guidance and accountability! They have great potential with just the right obedience and handling.

I love seeing you working with GSDs. They can be such a challenge at times because people often buy them as protection dogs, but without training to be protection dogs, they become the opposite. I ended up taking in one GSD when his former owner got disgusted with the dog. His idea of protection training was to praise fhe dog when he barked at something... "Good Boy, PROTECT!!" He then was flabbergasted when I called his dog's bluff, and walked right up to the fellow, all the while with him commanding "Protect! Protect!" The dog had a bad sense of security, and cowered when his barking bluff was called. I'd love to be entered in the giveaway, Thanks!

@@Mamabear_29 yeah, it's nuts. I have a GSD girl who I had to retire from being my public service dog because we had a traumatic experience with someone who tried to rob me at knifepoint. She did not have any bite work training on her, yet she took this guy down like she was trained for it. She somehow knew the knife could hurt, and definitely knew the guy was no good. Bad thing after that, she then saw everyone getting too close to my chair as a threat and would growl. I couldn't take the chance that the next one she thought she needed to protect me from would be a child with a toy. I've been working with her two years and she still wants to eat any stranger that gets near. My big boy GSD is calm, well balanced, and the biggest snuggle bug on earth. 😀

Communication is EVERYTHING. Let your dog know what they’re doing right. They’re not mind readers. No one will ever look at you as weak for letting your dog know it’s doing the request correctly. If they’re doing a good heel, TELL them so. If they’re not let them know and again when they get it. It’s a conversation and it’s ongoing. Dogs thrive on feedback just as humans do. It’s why our species work so well together.

Wanted to share something SUPER special!! While at work today, I was talking to a customer about her dog and she shared that they had just wrapped up some training .. I shared that I also love working my dog when I’m not working! We were talking about off-leash control and I mentioned that I was going to purchase a Dogtra unit soon for that reason specifically! She said she had one and loved it! I then mentioned that I was inspired by this dog trainer I follow that I really look up to! And she was like “Omg Tom Davis?! I love him! I just got his unit!” It was SO special! I just couldn’t believe I met a fellow No Bad Dog Army member in real life!! I won’t forget that moment. 🥰

I love watching these videos. My border collie/Aussie doesn’t have behavioral problems (thank whatever god is up there) but they are super informative on everything else too. The information to the owners on how to walk with their dog completely changed our walks and the pulling. Loose leash 90 percent of the time. And we were at my family’s ranch and throughout the entire time there she was off leash and I would keep having her check in. Sure enough she figured out where the cows were in the last 30 minutes on the very last day. I called her once from a quarter mile away and she came all the way back. It was MY reward for hard work and consistency. I even caught it on video which I’m not ashamed to admit I go back and watch from time to time lol. Thanks Tom.

The best thing about Tom is explaining the handlers WHY their dog is like this. My 4 year old Labrador got bitten by a stray boxer, since then he barks and lunges at other dogs passing close. I got him to the point where he barks one time and then he leaves it. It’s still freaking me out and I know it’s my fault for being not confident enough. Your videos help me so much, thank you

They" re excellent dogs..smart and easy to train.....but like Tom says....they need strong ,clear LEADERSHIP !!...and need to know their owners are in charge...and have the situation under control.....otherwise they try to take charge ...and thats where the problems start....So many are just plain insecure!! Alot don"t get enuf exercise ..which leads to anxiety and excitement, frustration and stress...So glad Tom puts out alot of GSD videos...Keep telling folks to watch them !!
