Buster's owner was a hoot! Once she made the connection to her errors and Buster's behavior, she tried so hard and Buster became fully engaged with her. I love to see it when a dog starts offering behaviors in anticipation of the owner's direction after they completely "click" as a team. Great content that's so helpful too. Thank you!

Huskey/Anatolian Shepherd mix? That’s a lot of dog. The best thing you showed me and Kyra was how she is happy to ignore another dog, if the other dog appears to be under control. If the other dog is not under control, I have to step in and make sure that the owner of the other dog takes care of that issue. You really helped us a whole lot on the question of other dogs. Sometimes I feel myself getting caught in the same loops in life (outside of dog training) where I know the mistake I’m making, but keep repeating until I have a firm hand show me the better way. I love how every dog in this program was given their own video. Just to prove that each dog and each approach is different, even when you’re doing group training. Just because they all have a similar problem and can be grouped together to learn how to correct it, it’s still vastly different for every owner and dog. I really enjoy the fact we get to see this, dog by dog, concerning a group session. Really adds to the “They don’t do this yet, but this dog does and if your dog developed this behavior, here is how you change his decision making process”. Helping the dog and owner in need, while helping other dogs and owners prevent that same issue from happening to them. Brilliant!!

Our rescue lurcher is getting much better on the leash, and is an angel in the house, but he still is very reactive when we see another dog. We are working with a trainer (not getting far) and I correct him when he does the bad behaviour, but we can't seem to get through to him. Walks are a nightmare so we tend to stick to a short route where we know there are lots of escape paths if we see another dog. I think I have watched most of your videos!!!

Oh Lordy, internet went out and I couldn't wait to get that modem to my provider and get a signal to watch this. GOOOOD GIRL! Love this lady. You knew when the bulb lit in her head and she got it! It was a beautiful moment. Not sure why most people think a leash isn't something to use in a house but it's very common. When I bring in a new sheppy, leash is around my waist until the dog understands the activity of me and the household, corrections are quick because they're close to me, teaches them to follow me, look at me and they normally are "off leash" inside Inside of a week. From there though I may not be doing this right because then I put a "tab, on their collar. Like your safety clip. Then if they decide to flip me off I can grab the tab, snap, correct, and we move on. Six inches is six inches. It means an immediate correction or a game of chase, they win lol. Let me know if I should drop the tab portion of my indoor manners repertoire ❤️?? Sooo glad I got to see this today. Had to play internet repair tech, but I learned a lot today about that, and as always MORE from you! Dang I love this channel and your vids. Now I have to work more with Phoenix. She LOVES Jeeter, the K9 on a cop show. When the lights turn on and the whistle whining starts, she KNOWS if it's Jeeter. She has the hots for that boy and has to stand on her hind legs and watch him catch the bad guy 🤣

Martingale collar: it has always been my understanding that the reason for a martingale collar was used on what they call lovingly pinhead dogs. Examples, Dobermans greyhounds salukis etc. In other words dogs with a thick neck and a head that slides down very small. That way if you have a regular buckle collar the dog could slip out of it backwards. With the martingale it does not. I have never in 30 years of owning dogs used a martingale as a training tool.

I’m seeing a trend right now of people using them like “choke collar lite.” Especially among supposed force-free crowd because “choke collar=bad.” They aren’t a communication tool but people will try to use them as one
@EchosJourney
@EchosJourney 3 жыл бұрын
@@ApesoftheState I can see that now. But it never even crossed my mind until I saw Tom's video. When I was introduced to this collar it was by people who had greyhounds and they explained the use of the collar. I have had Dobermans for a long time and thus they came in extremely handy. Yes people and their one-sided view of all dogs can be trained this way sends more dogs to be euthanized then broadening their minds.

I've heard of it being used for sled dogs when they are too naughty to be in a run and have to be tied out (digging under, ripping up chain link runs, ect) so it's loose when they're hanging out but it tightens just enough they can't slip it off if they're trying to sneak out of their collar. I've never personally considered it a training tool.

I’ve learned so much from you and your style of training and today Ollie, at a little over a year, is one of the best trained dogs I’ve ever had. I really liked this longer video. The part where he wouldn't sit even after she popped him, and you stepped in to apply steady upward pressure helped a lot. My dog has the tendency to do this. The pops don't bother him when it comes to "sit". He's a Great Pyrenees so I'm not sure if it's because he's so large. But, he's made awesome progress the last couple weeks! I love your videos! I'm training my dog with pretty much positive reinforcement only. I think as long as you train them properly from the start, that should suffice. However, I can see by watching your videos why this type of training exists, and is needed. Mostly, it's owners letting their dog get out of control, not training properly, or not knowing what to do. So you're doing a great job with this! Also, the e-collar does seem like a useful tool to let your dog go off leash, just to have that back-up. My dog is a hunting dog, it want it to be allowed to roam free, as long as it comes when I want it too. (Which will obviously take a lot of time & training).

Good video Tom! Great to see the whole progress. Just rescued a 5 mth GS that had been crated for hours each day, Lexi. She had no contact with ppl, dogs or kids 😪 but turns out is brilliant with all. My husband and I have retired early so she now has company most of the day. I will be trying to apply all you say in your videos, been subscribed for 18 months, she is so smart that in the house she has got all the basics down thanks to all your advise in the vids, but is a nightmare out on walks, pulls like a husky, jumps up and bites the leash. I'm working on it, have to get it right as I'm 63 and can't have a dog that's growing to 70lb dragging me down the road. Gonna try n get to see you in Oct, I live in Epsom, South West London 🇬🇧👍🏻

What an adorable lady. God bless her for wanting to learn how to get control of her dog. You done an amazing job with this lady, patient and very clear in your delivery. She’s lucky to have you as a trainer Tom 🌟🌟

This has seriously added so much encouragement for my dog and the possibility for his future. Seeing the struggle and the final connection to the tools and timing makes me feel pumped like I myself can give him a possibility for a better way to figure out life.

Love that you showed the whole process!! Is he an Anatolian/Husky mix by any chance? I've worked with Anatolians. They can be a lot of dog without the human learning how to communicate with them. Anyone considering the breed really needs to research what this breed was meant to do. If this owner keeps up with the training she got with you (Tom), she's going to have a great time with that dog.

I love seeing videos like this! And I love how much patience Tom has, I’ve seen trainers start getting upset when the dog parents aren’t doing what the trainer said the first time. I rescued a red heeler from the pound during the pandemic. He is the calmest dog until we get outside. He has horrible reactivity when he sees or hears another animal. He’s so reactive that he will set off my other dog! I’m working everyday but I felt the “Jesus take the wheel” comment. I’m glad I found this page on TikTok because it’s given me a lot of ideas

I can relate, as I had a red heeler when I was growing up and she was a handful, she wanted to herd everything/everyone. As a puppy we took her to a friends farm and she ran straight into the cattle pen and rounded up the cattle. She was programmed to work. I saw Tom doing the scatter feed technique on his recent video and that seemed to work as a good distraction for dogs that want to herd.

Thanks for the long video, they are done so well now, really enjoying the new format. It was good to see someone new to the ecollar and working on the timing and being just a bit nervous about it, that’s me.

OMG, I swear I found my dog's sibling. They act totally alike and similar features. Though he needs some some help with training too. He is very stubborn, but gets really distracted and wants to see everyone and everything so he pulls like crazy. Though in my area some trainers denied help training him because he is part pitbull with a whole bunch of other mixes.
