We encounter a grizzly sow with two cubs at Trout Lake BC.
The grizzly sow was not afraid of people and showed aggression towards a camper who was yelling at the bears. ( watch 5:39 to 6:10 ). My brother and I were not yelling at the Grizzlies. We filmed them from a safe distance. We were upset with the guy who was yelling at the Grizzlies. There was very little traffic from where we filmed. My brother and l love wildlife and nature, we are environmentalists. We respect wildlife and nature, and we always have. If you like the video please consider subscribing.

Since you mentioned respecting wildlife, then why did you stalked a grizzly (while in your Jeep) on Hwy 40 at one point. It is illegal (at least now to do that). Why didn’t you leave that grizzly alone if you say you respect the wildlife? You are contradicting what you are saying here.

The guy yelling at the grizzly sow with cubs made a mistake, we are all human. He should have retreated into his camper the moment he noticed the Grizzlies nearby. Completely agree, one has to show a lot of caution when encountering a sow with cubs. The guy who was yelling "get get" should have shown more caution by just going to his camper to begin with. Apparently, the Kokanee numbers in the Lardeau River are severely down in the last 2 years, so I don't know if grizzlies will be showing up as they did in past years. Thanks for watching.

Like everyone else (I'm local) it's pronounced Lardoh. This area is unfortunately starting to see too many tourists. I've been paddling the Lardeau the end of Sept. during the Kokanee spawn for about 25 yrs. We used to see far more grizzlies between the Trout Lake bridge put in and the God Hill bridge takeout than we do now. The Kokanee count is way down. Gerrard rainbow are fewer, and smaller. There's now an outfitter who takes people down the Lardeau in a raft. There are also far more hunters in the area. All this increased traffic is affecting the wildlife - it's becoming scarce. There used to be a healthy caribou population - but logging is destroying their habitat - and they will soon be gone. This is a well shot video, but social media can have it's ill effects.

You just never know what a grizzly bear might do. Making a lot of noise does make black bears run off, if they aren't already too close. In 1969 I was camping on a small island on the Bow river, outside of Banff, Alberta. A railway line crossed the river there and I thought I would not get harassed by the Mounties there. Around 5:00 I was lying down in my small tent, with my head sticking out the front when I heard some rustling. A yearling grizzly sauntered up and stood about a foot away from me. We were eyeball to eyeball for about 15 Sec. and I don't think I so much as blinked. But I projected the thought to that little bear that it was in a very dangerous place and should run away. I had no food, so the bear ran off. I don't know if it's mother was nearby. I found another place to camp.

There was a video of a drunken Russian who ran screaming at a couple of large brown bears, and they ran off like they didn't want the trouble, and looked scared. But a mother with cubs won't do that, I wouldn't want to try it, anyway.

I think the Gerrards are sea run Steelheads that got land locked like the kokanee (Sockeye) we have here , they built 5 dams on the Kootenay river between castlegar and Nelson BC and the dozens of other Dams along the Columbia with no fish latters we had huge Salmon runs here in the pre dam days

Both Gerrards and Steelheads are Rainbow trout. Steelheads are sea run Rainbows, while Gerrards are a genetic variety of Rainbows that evolved from feeding on the Kokanee in Kootenay Lake ie "Gerrards are a genetically gargantuan strain of rainbow trout that averages 6.8 - 9.03 kilograms in weight, compared to the 1.3 - 1.8 kilogram average for the standard strain of Kamloops Rainbows". Plus, " Unlike other rainbows, whose diet consists of invertebrates, crustaceans, insects and eggs of other fish, Gerrard trout feed mainly on kokanee, Kootenay Lake’s landlocked version of the Sockeye salmon". It is sad to see what is happening to the world we live in, all the best to you Mike.

Yes Mike, those Rainbows are the biggest in the world and I believe they are called Gerrard Rainbows (named after the little community that used to exist at the south end of Trout Lake). Wishing you all the best fishing in the future, take care Mike.
