Welcome to another Red Flag Event from the Red Flag Group, an invite only community that hosts some of the most intense and realistic Milsim Missions that can be found anywhere in the DCS World Community.
Pilots, planners and controllers of DCS squadrons invited to participate are expected to have excellent Airmanship skills, communication skills, and possess a deep knowledge of their aircraft, weapons, tactics and IFR procedures up US Military, FAA and ICAO standards.
Having all participants at a very high skill floor when it comes to airmanship means that deeper lessons can be learned and brought back to participants’ individual squadrons and groups.
This event’s learning objective for Strike pilots, was performing Battlefield Air Interdiction or BAI under the direction of Strike Coordination and Reconnaissance or SCAR controllers.
For Air to Air Focused pilots the objective was pushing Red Air out of the AO and then shifting from OCA or Offensive Counter Air to DCA or Defensive Counter Air to cover the Interdiction aircraft.
This is where I finally come in, flying for Redfor as an Aggressor pilot in the F-14A Tomcat.
As an aggressor, it's not my job to rush in like a Kamikaze with no regard for my own life and dismantle the blue side’s strike package, rather my job as an aggressor is just as important to furthering the objectives of the event as the white force who plan and facilitate the lesson plans and learning objectives.
As a result flying as an aggressor is a very delicate balancing act between adhering the to ROE or Rules of Engagement, following the learning objectives set out by the White Force for the Blue Forces, listening to the Red Side AIC, who is in constant contact with the BlueFor AIC and WhiteFor AIC, flying your own aircraft in a tactically sound and safe manner while also purposefully making mistakes both individually and collectively to give the BlueFor an advantage and further their learning, but also looking for their mistakes to take advantage of and punish them for it.
In other words our job is to Fight with Honor and Die an Honorable death to further the Blue Forces learning…
I hope you enjoyed the TACview heavy intro to this mission to help show off the massive scale of this mission with more than 60 pilots participating. This was one of the largest Red Flag events yet… and my little piece of it as an Aggressor almost felt lonely.
