It's a positive kiai, your technique is your product to sell to the judges, more likely to score the technique with this dominance than with a small self-concious kiai, that's how I am taught anyway

Karate itself is a martial art. To execute it fully, means to defense against an opponent as a last resource. Shuto and Haito are attacks that can be done in a tournament with control, as i have recived points for mark them with an appropriate control. A tournament is a controlled environment where you need to take care of yourself and your opponent for avoiding terrible consequences.

@JHourahine actually koshiki karate is recognised by most national olympic committees and is still being considered for games olympic. Non contact karate has been shot down several times.. koshiki still has a shot because its more realistic, has less accidents and the refereeing is more clear. every year koshiki is invited bye the ioc to the olympic week in Lauson where potential sports are looked at. I dont know about other non contact groups but koshiki definately has some olympic recognition

I'm only repeating the commonly held belief about the origin of Taekwondo. It doesn't matter what INSPIRED it, it's what its originators learned and made taekwondo. Of course, the fact that I do karate means I can't read a history book.
