Let's read through Badiou's Foreword to Byung-Chul Han's The Agony of Eros.
(Update: the comedian I referred to is Taylor Tomlinson: / taylortomlinson .
Alain Badiou, born 17 January 1937) is a French philosopher, formerly chair of Philosophy at the École normale supérieure (ENS) and founder of the faculty of Philosophy of the Université de Paris VIII with Gilles Deleuze, Michel Foucault and Jean-François Lyotard. Badiou has written about the concepts of being, truth, event and the subject in a way that, he claims, is neither postmodern nor simply a repetition of modernity. Badiou has been involved in a number of political organisations, and regularly comments on political events. Badiou argues for a return of communism as a political force.
Byung-Chul Han (born 1959) is a South Korean-born philosopher and cultural theorist living in Germany. He was a professor at the Berlin University of the Arts and still occasionally gives courses there.
Han is the author of more than twenty books, the most well known are treatises on what he terms a "society of tiredness" (Müdigkeitsgesellschaft), a "society of transparency" (Transparenzgesellschaft), and the concept of shanzhai (山寨), a style of imitative variation, whose roots are, he argues, intrinsic to Chinese culture, undermine the distinction often drawn between original and fake, and pre-exist practices which in Western philosophy are called deconstructive.
Han's current work focuses on transparency as a cultural norm created by neoliberal market forces, which he understands as the insatiable drive toward voluntary disclosure bordering on the p*rnogr*phic. According to Han, the dictates of transparency enforce a totalitarian system of openness at the expense of other social values such as shame, secrecy, and trust.
Until recently, he refused to give radio and television interviews and rarely divulges any biographical or personal details, including his date of birth, in public. He is a Catholic.

6:58 Han also seems to have quite a deep (albeit philosophical) understanding of narcissism so I'd say it's alright that you draw from the technical subjects; after all narcissism is ultimately one thing, no? I'm so glad to have discovered this channel because you seem to talk about a lot of thinkers I currently have a huge fascination with: Han, Ayn Rand, Jung, etc.

In personal experience I don't find pornography to get in the way of eros. That doesn't mean that it he's wrong about it.. Sometimes there are outliers. well, oftentimes there are.

Do you think that we desire love less or have a reduced ability to love when due to capitalism and the comodification of everything, including ourselves?

Capitalism is having a free market. There's absolutly NOTHING wrong with having freadom. If people are using their freadom to engage in meaningless consumption ..maybe they need a mirror, the problem is not with having a free market system, the problem is with their set of values. Nobody forces people to be a mindless consumers. Ps: men are usualy quite frugal, you might want to look at who owns 80% of all credit card debt... There's no consumtion without the consumer driving up demand..😮

Thanks for your comment. I don't think that Han's argument is against Capitalism per se, but instead Neoliberalism, which often is criticized (perhaps this is debatable) for fetishizing capitalism. But one is an economic system and the other a political philosophy. That is not probably clear from my videos. I really appreciate this reminder to be more specific in my terms. Regardless, I think Han worries that the fetishization of capitalism perpetuates the prioritizing of the individual over the collective, when in reality we are interdependent/affect others beyond ourselves. A system that might have its origins in freedom doesn't necessarily end in freedom for anyone. I don't think Han is calling out the privileged or the rich. He is saying that there is a psychological change going on at the apex of how technology and commodification merge. My question back to you would be, then what can be done to evolve the species'/society's, etc. set of values?

capitalism is typically considered not only as a free market but also as having a working class which provides profits for an upper class. when people discuss or critique "capitalism" it is typically from the angle of a worker (someone who works for a boss, for a wage, which the boss gets the profits from even if the worker produces these profits) or in general it can also be about how we are now surrounded and expected to purchase high value consumer products (such as laptops, phones, or whatever you used to post that comment!). so it is not an attack on "individual freedoms" to discuss the risks or potential implications of consumer capitalism: you yourself are certainly not exempt from being a consumer within capitalism: it is that system which we are trying to understand and discuss.
