This is a reference to ALMOND: A NOVEL about a guy who has trouble identifying and describing experienced emotions because of a neuropsychologic condition (alexithymia). The "almond" refers to the amygdala, an almond-shaped area of the brain. Yoongi was seen reading this book in a preview to IN THE SOOP. The book is on Namjoon's recommended list. In the novel, the troubled boy is fed almonds by his mother in the hope of repairing the boy's amygdala.

Yoongi has a real talent for being comforting and heartbreaking at the same time. Watching this video makes me grieve for younger Yoongi and grieve for my younger self, but also feel less alone and that healing is possible if you give yourself time.

Yoongi really opened up to us. This may be healing for him , to face his pain and trauma.. and for us, who are also going through the same thoughts... What really pained me about this song and MV, is finally knowing how he held all of this in. Not just while in pre debut, but through out his career. This are not really things you can just talk about in the open, not especially as an Idol who, aside from working hard , are always being hated on for no reason. Holding onto those pain, alone in your mind😭 .. knowing now that he was the one who inflicted that scar in order to cope with all the turmoil he must have been feeling, thus creating AGUST D, the one filled with anger, pain and malice 🥹 he was suffering and yet only tried to give us his best .. How must he have felt, after all his schedule and concerts, going back alone in his hotel room😭.. I'm glad he has his members with him ready to support and help him out. He did process it, there is a clip where he tells Jimin that he had massive mood swings while writing this song but it was apart of the therapy to unpack the memories and deal with them.

*My own thoughts on Agust D's Triology:* Yoongi has shared his mental health issues with us since the beginning, and he stated how some of his roughest times were in the early days, like from 2014 to 2016, how he developed social anxiety at age 18, he was dealing with depression and OCD. BTS had hate coming at them from all angles, and it took a toll on them in the early years. So hearing all the other things he was dealing with as well, just puts things into perspective. He's such a strong person. In the making video, he said the scars we create are of our own making. So the best way for him to represent that was the way that he did with the scar on his face. And the medicine he took was for his condition. He talked about how he saw a psychiatrist and his parents went with him, and they said they didn't know who he was anymore. This was in "The Last" from his first mixtape Agust D. He said how could anyone know him when he doesn't know himself, so that phrase "I don't know your name" made sense to me. Looking back at repressed memories. Thankfully he got through all of it, and now is healed to a certain degree. I see the rain as a shift., He also talked about "What doesn't kill you make you stronger", and he is now blooming like a lotus flower. The lotus flower is very resilient, and can grow in mud and water, like on a lake or pond. So I see the rain as cleansing, and healing. He also said in the behind the scenes on Daechwita, that the mad King was the Agust D from his first Mixtape in 2016, and the peasant was from his 2020 mixtape D-2. You can see the scar is very raw in that video on both of them, maybe slightly less for the 2020 Agust D. In Haegeum, i interpret it as Agust D from 2020 is the Police detective/corrupt Boss, with the partially healed scar, and the Agust D that kills, and steals the money with no scar is D-Day Agust D. The one that is mostly healed and is talking about freedom. (Do we ever completely heal from our scars?) In an interview with IU, and in the D-Day film, he talks about how he was very angry and now he has forgiven the haters and is living in the present. So his music moving forward may not have the angry vibe that we have seen in the past. But he is definitely not done yet. I really appreciate your insight on the video, I believe you understand it well, and that is what he wanted for his fans to understand. I don't know if he self harmed. he has never said he did, and he explained the scar as a representation of his inner emotional scars. So I tend to think he hasn't. Anyway thank you for the reaction to the video. I know it wasn't an easy watch, but it was well worth it. 💜💜

I think the song hit for everyone , because we all have things in our lives we didn't ask for. Memories we can't change or erase if you are lucky you learn to accept and live with the things that happen and grow from them. Like he said it made him stronger.

yoongi always opens up to us but this one hit me hard....i saw him live in chicago agustd concert and when he perform this song you can feel the emotions and see how it affects him and he did cry when he was performing this song. its so hard for him but i am so proud he open up with us and share whats going on in his mind.

I understand you, when I first watched this video I couldn't stop crying the whole day. Now I can watch it again but I've always loved the song. The music production it's impecable, seen it live makes it better for our souls and Yoongi gave us the closure during his last concert when he could finally open that door with a smile. His last concert was an emotional roller coaster, but it has a sort of happy ending knowing thay he's happy now, you should watch it 💜

7:32 In fact, this has nothing to do with self-harm in any way. He is dealing with his past. He is representing his past and trying to forget it, and this video is related to his concert. The summary of this video is that despite everything that happened to him and over the years of these problems, he is still trapped in the past and cannot move on, but in his concert. In the last one, he explained to us that he has forgotten everything and is trying to continue his life. In the video, the music is like the past, in the room that he cannot leave from, and in his last concert, he opened the door and left it, meaning that despite all this, we must forget and continue with our lives, so you must understand the song before judging.

“First best choice, second best choice, third best choice”, these are suicidal ideation thoughts. What’s the best way? Second best way? In Haegeum, we see the scar diminished, and in the final scene we see a lock of Yoongi’s hair across his eye in place of the scar. The implication being the process of processing may not really end. I admit it took me a couple of days to work up the courage to watch this again after the first viewing. Despite it being so personal to Yoongi, there was a lot of it that hit me deeply as a survivor.

But these for some reason made me feel more. When i heard this for the 1st time i smiled. This MV speaks his truth. I am glad Suga talked about it more. In Daechwita (D-2), he replaced "blond Agust D" from the first mixtape (he was blond for the MVs he released in 2016), who was a king who ruled out of anger... in Haegeum, a new Yoongi who DOESN'T have a scar, he's healed from his trauma - or at least has learned how to have it not continue to hurt him any more by self-inflicting wounds in response to it - and Haegeum Yoongi replaces D-2 Yoongi whose scar is old but still there, and is ruling in a civil manner but perhaps too caught up in the flexing aspect (the fancy suit, the slick image). I think Haegeum is the end on a note of Yoongi being free, and living the way he wants. Amygdala is needed to explain that key though - what Yoongi had to go through mentally to get to that point. The fact that he's sharing this with us, to me, means that he's reached a healthy place where he feels strong and recovered enough to share the story. Even if he can't put a firm happy ending on it, because you can't do that with mental struggles - in the latest episode of Suchwita, he even tells RM that he gets low every 2-3 years, but has learned how to handle it better as time has passed, and now RM thinks he's the most positive person on the team. Really, Yoongi is absolutely amazing.
