The Hind is a beautiful chopper. It may not be able to manover that good but when you step into the ring with it you better be ready for a fight. It hits as hard as it looks. To me the Hind is the best helicopter Russia has ever had.

Re:flynnt77; Your first sentence sums it up. However the Hind had no NATO counterpart when it appeared. I have seen "B Movies" that dressed up Pumas to pretend to be a Hind for the camera. I would not like to use a Puma as an attack helicopter BUT as a troop carrier, now evolved into Cougar, very good. Apache is a stalker and as you say "gonna blown you to HELL" (abridged version). Thank you for your comment, clearly based on knowledge.

I went to X-Prize with my NASA/ Boeing guy Oct. 2008. I was pretty cluless then. Hot day. I just took pics of stealths, the pilots, spy planes. Watched the test aircraft have issues, men evacuated. It was a hot day. Security didn't even check my purse. It's harder to get into a Bengals game! So, on the drive there I said "why dont you just bend the fabric of space and jump through?" You should have seen his face, then a quiet smile. Dad was a prominant astronomer, made his scopes, obsrevatories and developed his own film. There's a reason for that. I just work in finance 40 years. I guess it's a mystery.

Be cool if for the next version if they added anti air defenses like a radar to spot sam sites and some radar missiles. A-10 has some good anti air defenses for not having a radar, it has something that can detect the heat of a launch and dispenses flairs and chaff. That video of the Iraqis surrendering to the chopper was interesting. Imagine seeing an Apache after seeing the average Iraqi helicopter, they are incredibly intimidating looking without even trying to be. Even the engines look like they’re about to launch a missile at you.

The hind (mi-24) was developed after the cobra (ah-1). The Soviets didn't need attack helicopters since the need was not required based on terrain. They built the weaponry around a transport helicopter and is reason the mi-24 is so big. Soviets have a smaller but lethal version- known as the havock.

I’ve flown KA-50 in dcs flight sim and it’s a cool helicopter but I seriously doubt the Ka52 has the things they have in the simulator on the Ka50. Like these helicopters are supposed to have eyepiece sight that you can use to lock cannon on enemies 8km away and reliably hit them. You can also use Vikhrs missiles to hit armor 8km away using the laser tv pod with good optics I think up to 16x or 24x zoom, I forget exactly but it’s a long way. You can even turn off part of the targeting system and fire the weapons further, so I’ve hit some targets at 10-11km with the cannon. All the videos I’ve seen released by Russia has the Ka-52 pilots lobbing their dumb rockets from 2km away, and using cannon locked straight ahead while blindly strafing and flying directly over the target. So they know where the target is but this is the best strategy to attack with this helicopter?:) This is why they are burning in the fields, they are flying like a WW2 pilot in a P-39. So it seems they don’t actually have the eyepiece targeting system for the cannon or the guided missiles. In the sim I can pop up above trees and take out an SA300 system and a half a dozen tanks from 5km away, and I suck as a pilot:) So I don’t think Russia built what they advertised, because otherwise the videos Russia has released would show the helicopter using stand-off weapons and being a stealth beast. I don’t think they actually have the laser guided weapons, like the Vikhrs anti-tank missiles. They seem to just have the cheaper dumb rockets, which is basically the worst weapon that helicopter can carry and a huge waste of it’s advertised capabilities. Instead of the 16 anti tank Vikhrs it can also be loaded with 2 (possibly 4 on the bigger ka-52 winglets) huge missiles called KH-25’s which are amazing to even sink ships with but apparently don’t exist either lol. That chopper can even lock onto planes and other choppers and do anti air pretty well. If they had any of these weapons they would definitely be showing videos of pilots firing them and using them in Ukraine. Russia seems to have build another parade propaganda helicopter like the T-14 and the highly limited edition, never seen in Ukraine SU57. I can’t wait to see one of these things gone through to see what weaponry and optics systems they actually have, and if it was a lack of weapons which we know is an issue or the helicopters just don’t have the modern targeting systems. Sorry for the long post I have just been thinking about this chopper all month lol.

There really is no comparison, here. The Apache is purpose built to destroy hard targets from a distance. It can engage troops on the ground from a decent range, but close in, things can get dicey. The Hind, on the other hand, is a flying APC designed to drop a couple infantry squads into battle, then provide them air cover. In a stand up fight, the Apache would slaughter the hind, as it is far more maneuverable and has far superior countermeasures, as well as better targeting and weapon systems. If the fight was close in, the Hind stands a better chance, especially if there were troops on board firing their rifles out the windows. God damn drive-by in a Hind lol. But give the Apache any distance, or let him get above or too far aft, the Hind is gonna get blown to hell.

The AH-64 can be armed with Sidewinder air-to-air missiles. No troop-carrying Hind carries air-to-air missiles. Even if I stretch my imagination to its limits, I can’t imagine a scenario in which a Hind pretends to be a battleship and uses troops firing from portholes to deliver a broadside to an Apache. At best it would annoy the Apache enough to shoot back. At worst one of the Hind’s passengers would fire a rocket or missile at the Apache and the overpressure within the cabin would injure or kill everyone nearby.

@@rtrThanos Yeah, I agree, it is a stretch. I only brought up the troops shooting out of the sides as some kind of means by which a Hind might cover its flanks close-in, maybe give the fat bastard a fighting chance. You're right, though. It's not very likely.

I would more compare AH64 vs MI 28 Havoc... both of those are kind of more related to anti - tank objectives i think. Mi24 and 25 ( 25 is the exportname for the mi24 but only D version ) i think its quite an interessting desing still, because it can carry a high weight of armament while also transporting troops... but i still think its not as good for anti tank operations as mi28 and ah64... and... the problem with the mi24 is also its size... u dont actually seeing this on the vid... but it is quiote tall. The Russians also have modified the KA 50 Hokum into a two seated KA52 Alligator. Im quite surprised how the successor of the AH 64 will look like Somebody knows how long it will be in service?

@@ApacheRanch ok wow thats quite long actually. Some information said also that the Americans wanted to replace Abrams 2025 but its also going to be longer in action. I think if the States want to develop new Helicopters and Tanks, they want that stealth design like on Zumwald... but its just so expensive and also complicated .. i think they tried that on AH 66 Comanche but were unhappy with it when i remember correctly thx 4 the answer btw ;)

"Target destroyed!" 🤣 They just keep playing that SAME clip, over and over again. This program is over 20 years old now. Despite how impressive these helicopters are, obviously technology has advanced quite considerably since then. That being said, there are few military gunships more impressive than the Apache attack helicopter. 🚁
