Got past Barthandelus a couple of days ago, I used Light, Hope and Sazh. First paradigm that I used was COM/SYN/SYN, using it long enough to buff all the allies with Haste, Protect etc. etc., while attacking one of the heads with COM (Light). Then, switching on to COM/MED/RAV and start blasting those side-heads off one by one. I tried to speed the process by making Light start a chain on one head, then switching to Tri-Disaster (RAV/RAV/RAV) and finishing a head clean off continuing to the next. Switching on to COM/MED/RAV the minute I see one of us hanging on the edge of their lives (had a plan B with the MED/MED/COM if things were about to go ugly.) Repeat the COM/SYN/SYN paradigm if necessary, then continue with the COM/MED/RAV treatment, along with the three RAVs. When the side-heads are busted, it's just chain after chain. With this strategy I won at first try, without having to revive allies. Paradigms I had for the battle: Light/Hope/Sazh COM/SYN/SYN COM/MED/RAV RAV/RAV/RAV MED/SYN/SYN MED/MED/COM (didn't need)

Destrudo wasn't the problem for me in this battle. It was the doom status he inflicts on you right at the end.

Also another tip buy 99 potions and phonies dawns and use them instead of switching to me all the time but if you have taken a lot of damage switch to med but you want your party members to keep attacking

@CyberThechSlifer i did that and it doesn't work cuhz the doom timer disappears and when odin goes away it just goews back to where it was left off.....

can someone tell me how you get arisol and what team i should use and what paragrims please to use i cant beat him and when he gets to destructo i cant get it to shake to do less damage, my team is hope lighting and fang, so i want to keep those so what paragrims should i use with them

Everytime he uses his special attack, i get completely wiped out? is there anyway to stop his special from hitting

@PieJee1 High Hp? Crystarium FULLY upgraded before the boss. Use the room just prior to the fight to level up your caracters. That worked pretty fine for me.

How do i get the shrouds? How do i activate them? And the Aerosal thing whats that? Please help. I'v been at this boss for weeks.

@HSSDamian I put 2 titanium bangles on Vanille or was it 1 titanium and that one that gives 150 hp, 1 titanium on Lightning, 1 on Sazh. Do your characters have rune bracelets on, too? Also, try upgrading weapons, or upgrading bangles for your characters. I had a lvl 6 gladius for Lightning, lvl 3 binding rod for Vanille, and lvl 4 or 5 gun called vegas something for Sazh.

how much time would it take to max out the crystalimuclum w/e..?

i followed what you guys said but i dont have any aerosols.. =/ killed its pauldrons and ailets .. and i am smashin him but when it charges and unleashes after shaking... im full health and it annihilates me

@derrzh just train for a bit in the area before the boss. Also when he starts charging destructo try to deal as much damage to him as possible until he groans. Destructo will now do 1/2 damage.

Yeah for the Destructo attack, you need to keep on hitting him while he's charging until he grunts then needs to sorta charge again. I had Hope, Fang, and Lightning. After he grunts, I had Hope as Med, Lightning as Com, and Fang as Sen (to take the ruins he will immediately cast afterwards). Pretty easy, if you ask me.

how can you still have the effects of the things you used before the battle. i will lose them when i am on 3/4 of the barthandelus. and then he uses destructo and i am death

Try having snow lighting and fang in party all commando and then you want 2 raves and a com for a quick stagger then if your hp gets low have snow and fang on com when he's casting destro and quickly heal then switch back to all com or 2 rav and com and do the certain amount of damage or he'll one shot you also max your chrystarium try using buffs and make sure to summon of he casts doom on you

I need help, i kill like one of those upside down faces and i try to get rid of the others but before i do he charges his elemental attacks so he'll attack me 2 times i just cant get past him that way ._.

@darkbleach88 how to give characters high hp fast? I manage to survive the magic onslaught at the start but I always end up with my captain getting killed instantly by destrudo even with full hp and haste, protect and shell cast on her

lots of help but i dont have any lebrascopes so i cant use that and then just b4 i stagger him my arisosol and fortisal or wateva they r run out so now im always stuck halfway through his hp bar unable to stagger him >:(

@Pandanonimo if your health is low use combat clinic then switch to a syngerist and buff up i use hope snow and lightning

@Bestbuddy998 u.u I tried that and only got deceptisol, what team did you use? I'll go back and fight more people, but I think my teams a bad play. I got Vanille and Hope with me.

To defeat this first battle against Barthandelus, I used the characters: Snow, Hope, and Lightning. I did not use any shrouds, but I did stock up on brand new armor for the characters that were fighting. Just make sure your characters' health is either above 1,600, or above 1,300 with all of Hope's buffs when he uses Destrudo.

Can someone suggest the weapons i should equip for each person?

The shrouds help a lot, I used aegisol and fortisol. I stayed in relentless assault for the first half of the fight until he started casting destrudo, then I switch to evened odds (MED/SYN/SAB) to make sure everyone has protect and shell up. For when the spell is actually cast, I have combat clinic up so I can heal the party up quickly and straight back into Relentless Assault. He casts doom if the fight drags on, but it shouldn't get to that. Worst comes to the worst, summon Odin.

When he dies the move dustrudo how much damage does it do

my Artiosl and that other Sol always dissapears after i kill al those Ailettes and things, then when i have to battle Barthy those dissapear and make me suck, help ?

@ThePintas10 ...... In order to have the red bar as your ATB bar you use haste on your characters which increases the speed but in order for you to have it around this level, you have to use a Shroud that gives bravery.

i only have fortisol, do you know where to find aresol?

Can you buy the one that gives you haste????? and librascope

why does you attack power in bottom left is red and why does it fills up so quickly? and this boss is so hard.

@Omkar15792 As soon as the battle starts buff up your party and debuff him with the "Bully Paradigm" and then just stay in the "Diversity Paradigm" and occasionally switch to the "Relentless Assault"/"Combat Clinic" Paradigms to take out quick attacks to boost chain bonuses and heal your party quickly respectively. Keep watching the health meters and you'll be fine if you keep your fingers moving from paradigm to paradigm. And btw I used Light, Fang and Hope for this battle

i can get this guys down to his death counter whatever but what i wanna ask is how you get so many buffs i can get him to his death counter with just 2 on if i new you could get that many id of beaten the game by now!! so umm how do u get so much?

The first time I beat him, I had no thought of using the buffs. It isn't impossible to beat him without the buffs, but I used Hope instead of Vanille - it takes much longer and Solidarity/Diversity and Hero's Charge helps out when he is using Destrudo. It took forever, but I did it. I restarted because I messed up, so I used the buffs next time and it helped out, no use for SYN. I made my characters stronger as well, so I finished him off before he used the Doom counter on me.

@cokeisyummeh Actually, the video was sped up. I think it looks double speed-like. So it essentially took them over 7 minutes to kill?

@jellybean2423 You don't really need the aerosols, start with Med/Syn/Sab to get your buffs/debuffs then switch to Relentless Assault (and Diversity if you need healing) If you get in trouble use Med/Med/Sen. When he charges up his move switch to Com/Rav/Com or Rav/Rav/Com until he grunts. Even if he doesn't you should be able to survive if you use Med/Med/Sen. I found Vanille and Sazh more useful, but if you're set on Hope and Fang you should be fine.

@moonblade88 How do you lower the attack power of the Destrudo?

how you got those shrouds and how did you become så powerful you got over 1000 hp with each of your charekters and you hit over 1000 i hit like 450 i cant even kill al the upside down heads cuz' they use so powerful magic got any idea what i should do?

The damage from destrudo is debuffed if you build up his stagger meter. I was wondering that too until I found out about that, so just go tri-disaster if he starts charging destrudo and you should be okay.

@I2seckidI Shroud and aerosal are the same thing, you just tap LB (xbox) and use the potions before you enter the fight.

@LuniaVideo incase you didnt understand what i wrote above, other ethen playing the demo for ps1 final fantasy, this is the first playing the newer gens. Only playing star ocean till the end of time. Im new to the battle. I got experience, it took me 20 hours to get up to this boss, fighting along the way, but i need more cp. Its not over with him hes not last boss, but chapter final. So i need cp to fill all levels in Christalium.. and whatever i get next. Oh and i dont own the game...

How do you deal with his massive attack? The one where he recharges and then hits the entire party for a lot? it wipes out my whole team.

@ikwees i beat him without any aegisol. i thought it was impossible too because at first i couldn't minimize his destrudo attack. but i lvled up a bit then i was able to do so. Also try getting a second equipment for each of the character in the team you're using. i also used synergist with hope. i "think" it helped, but im not sure lol. and if you're really having so much trouble, put the battle speed to low. use potions! remember paradigm shift! btw i used lightning, snow, and hope.

can i find fortisol in this area?

On my first playthrough in 2010 i was stuck on him for about 2 weeks, then on my second in 2012 it took about 5 or 6 tries. and now on my third I done it first time, I was amazed.

Why, whenever I watch a video on this boss, is everybody's HP higher then mine! I even tried to max out my partys HP in their crystariums, and have equipment that boosts HP on all of them, yet I'm still not even close! Can someone help me out and tell me what I may be doing wrong?

@ThePintas10 It's both you gain them in battle and can buy and perchance them later on the game but not this early in the chapter but you should have them from previous chapters they add Bravery, faith, haste, etc depending on which shroud you use
