My dear old Dad died a few years ago, and we are selling his flat. When going through his post, threatening letters from the TV licence goons outnumber all the other post by 10 to 1. They must have acknowledged his death, as the letters are addressed to the legal occupier. I could tell them, but why should I? Hope the enforcement officer, Scott Robson, is enjoying his 130 mile round trip from Guildford to my Dad's flat every couple of months, for no reason!

Keep spreading the word. Too many people pay the license fee that don't need it.

Everyone should send their threatening and harassing letters back to them in bulk.

I've been told, the best policy is not to open the door to them. That way there is no proof of them ever finding out.

My in-laws who are 82 can have a free licence but still pay as they are scared they will get prosecuted. It puts fears in some people.

"If my mum burns my steak, I can interview her under caution"....that has got to be quote of the year, brilliant :-)

When I complained to my MP for Bourne and Stamford about all and sundry knowing that I didn't have a TV licence he wrote back to say that I should buy one. Even though I had explained why I have not needed one for about 11 years. Never voted for him again due to this and the fact that he is next to useless.

I wonder how much TV tax payers monies are wasted on all these letters ?

I suppose that it does not apply to squatters as they are not the legal occupiers!

Two years on NYE after I cancelled my DD. Refuse to tell them I don’t need one either. Had three letters and binned them all. Only watch streaming services. Don’t miss BBC player at all. And you can be fine without live TV, it’s on catch up. Thanks to this channel. 😊

I've 'been under investigation' for months now but Jane Jeffers must be too busy to bother sending the goon squad around to check. If Crapita turn up they'll have a job getting through the communal doors before they even get to my front door. I've had a couple of visits but I have followed Jon's advice by opening the window and asking who they are and telling them firmly "No thank you!" and closing the window, watching them walk, crest fallen, to try to find another victim!

I received one of those letter's on Saturday. Scott Robson certainly gets about he's apparently in charge of the Maidstone office and Cambridge and many other area's. He's either a very busy person or he's not real. 😂

A tv license is an absolute con in 2023 (without mentioning the cost of living and even covering bills month to month). I love a good red letter, I implore them to send more and waste more money, ink and paper. My paper shredder seems to love them. The methods the goons use to check are also shady, sly and manipulative. Close the door and ‘na thanks mate’ beforehand. Keep fighting the good fight my friend! The awake majority supports you!

It strikes me that the errr 'system' is getting more authoritarian. The vast majority of the public - knowing very little as to what can be done or not done in law - could easily be hoodwinked into believing that this position by the TV license folk is valid & fall into line regardless - sadly this is how this system rolls 😮

It's been about four years now. One actual visit in year one (told him "no thank you" and he went away, and two cards put through door saying that they've visited (about a year in between 'visits'). In the early days I started collecting the letters, but after a pile of about thirty I just chuck them all in the recycling now, half the rain forest already being used for more letters... and more letters.....not very carbon net zero TV Licencing...tut.tut.

I use these as a nice Christmas card, telling me how much I'm saving....by not having a TV licence. My message to the BBC: I'll be spending the £159 elsewhere.

dont engage with them in any way, bin their letters, dont call them, dont answer the door to them..totally ignore them

Everybody...just send 5 unstamped envelopes back to TV licensing at Darlington so they dont feel left out. They send millions of these threatening letters out every day...they must feel so unloved never receiving any back . Be kind this christmas...send them an empty envelope back, and dont forget to forget to put a stamp on it!

Here's all you need to do: Anytime you open a letter, the second you see the "TV Licensing" logo, instantly screw it up and bin it without a second thought, don't read a word of it, and then carry on with your life. If they come to your door either don't answer, or immediately closed the door the second they tell you who they are, and again carry on with your life as if nothing happened. It's as simple as that. Don't give them any of your time or energy

I'm shocked Chilli, I didn't realise it was Christmas. Having not watched any broadcast TV for years, nor have I purchased a license tax item, I have lost track of the months/years going by. I do (through the wife) buy cards with Robins on, which pays for those birds, but don't pay God - as such. I don't want to fall foul of God so any advice you can give will be gratefully received. As far as Gary is concerned, I am not paying for his pay rise so hopefully some of my money is paying the Robins to pay for him as well. I would hate for him to lose his job through lack of funding, after all unlike the Robins he's not earning peanuts.

I’ve lived at the same address for over 25 years, never had a licence and having ignored them for all 25 of those years I haven’t received letter from TVL for over a decade. I think they finally got the message.

hi Jon watched this video the same day as you put it out BUT the very same day In the post arrived the EXACT same identical red enveloped letter with the very same contents BUT & strangely/coincidentally/generally/laughably/sadly the signature was 'Scott robson ' also but magically......i live in west Kent , this time he was 'enforcement manager' for .......MAIDSTONE ! boy he gets around too! great stuff Jon!

I've just got one of those. There were two options , Pay or tell us you don't need one. If you ignore this we'll send the boys round, or tell us that you don't need one, but we will still send the boys round to check. Looking forward to the visit, it ends with "Close the gate behind you on your way out" . Can't possibly say what it begins with. I will watch the video now.

My parents got this very letter today (both in their late 70s). I was going to send you a picture of it as I don't recall you talking about this one, but don't have to now. We're even further from Cambridge than you, near your sister, so if they're planning on blitzing the area they'll need to sort some accommodation for the salesmen if they want to avoid some big milage claims from them!

I don't go on the BBC website and do the 'exemption' thing either and up until about September I used to get a threatening letter every 3 - 4 weeks. I've had a few of those red ones and they looked very nice in my waste paper bin. Anyway, the BBC has stopped sending me letters and tbh I'm feeling a bit neglected. I mean...ghosted by the BBC! Who do they think they are? I'm considering writing them a threatening letter to remind them I still exist.

I received this letter today, and after a cheeky zoom in on this video I can see mine has the same ‘signature’ and name of enforcement agent. Scott is a very busy chap jumping between Cambridge and Guildford!

These threatening letters seem to come in waves....I can almost predict which one comes next. Been licence free about 8 yrs now.... 😂😂😂😂

I got one of those lovely envelopes last week,did not even bothering to open it as it's pretty obvious where it came from,so just put it through paper shredder to add to all other junk mail and have taken it to my parents who then turn it all into bricks with sawdust for there coal fire 😂😂😂

I got mine last week. I was so frightened that I ran to the toilet. NO, not really, I cut the addresses out and it then travelled to the recycle bin. My letters come from Guilford, which is over 150 miles away

I get one of these every three months telling me that the investigator is going to come out from the Guildford office. Do they realise how far that is from mid-Cornwall? Idiots!

I received a visit 6 days ago, coincidentally i was reading a letter saying that an enforcement officer was scheduled to call at my property. Prior to opening the door to him i spent a minute securing the dog in another room. I told the guy i didnt have access to the BBC or any freeview channels. He however during the time it took me to open the door had walked onto my front garden and looked into my house. He then questioned that i was watching sports. I told him i was listening to music on you tube and there was a comedy video showing baseball being featured (I think it was a Dire straits track). He said fine and went, but it was rather annoying that he went out of his way to look into my house.

I told them that I don't need a license and they sent a goon around to "inspect". I was, as you said, playing a straight game and I let the goon in. This was a few years ago and the first thing the goon saw was that there were no set-top boxes and the cables to the satellite dish and roof antenna had both been cut. He flicked through a few channels on the TV, found nothing and left looking annoyed. TV Licensing send out a letter every couple of years asking if I need a license yet but otherwise they leave me alone. Obviously I'm not telling people that this is the way to go, I'm just saying that this is what I did. My attitude towards this is if they want to waste their time and resources then I say go for it, I'll annoy goons all day long. The look on the goon's face as he left was satisfying.

On a serious note I am sadly in a situation which may go to a criminal court but its not over a TV liscence.I doubt the courts have enough room for that stuff thesedays.

I honestly got one of the TV license threatening letters saying they were coming on Christmas Day. I told the wife to set an extra plate for the visitor. They never showed. 😂

That's old news the red ones were a couple of years ago then white and the latest are BROWN ONES ! Scary!

Yay!!! I was feeling a little left out, but finally, today...I've got my Christmassy red envelope from Scott Robson...Phew! Apparently, the boys will travelling up from Cardiff to have a chat...sorry, door shut in their face. I'd feel sorry for them if they weren't doing this particular job. Wait... So Amazon prime will get you in trouble, or just if you watch BBC through Prime? If it is the second, you might be able to force Amazon to block those services from your account based on requiring additional fees, they could be legally putting you in trouble. Or you might be able to get a court to rule that since you are paying a fee to Amazon that grants you a license to watch videos, that you have indeed paid for a tv license while using Prime. I think this might be worth digging a little deeper if you haven't already run down this rabbit hole.

There is no law that states that they have to do an investigation. Let’s face it, if there was, and they didn’t conduct an investigation (and we know that they don’t), then they would be breaking the law and subject to prosecution themselves.

I love the red envelopes. Means it cost them that little bit extra to print and send out. The more they bombard me with mail the more I smile. Remember everyone it costs them money to print and send letters. It costs you nothing to put them in the bin or use them for kindling.

I got one of those letters the other day and it’s still sitting on my coffee table unopened 😂 this is the third one of these I’ve had, the next letter in the chain is back to the regular boring white one 😔 as far as I know they’ve never been to my house but then I’m so rarely home these days that their odds of catching me in the house are somewhere in the region of my odds of Camelot picking my numbers for the lottery 😂😂

Coincidentally, I also got what I thought was an early Xmas card a few days ago, but no, it was one of these scummy letters from TVL. This is my 4th red letter from them this year. Still never had a visit, even though I've been told to expect a visit on a certain date twice now. I do play a straight game though, so these letters don't bother me in the slightest.

You could of course send the letters back to the Harrisment Center @ BBC and their address and pop it in the post with no stamp. With return to sender in big letters. 🤣😂😅

I recieved a hand delivered threatening letter today but the bugger didn't even knock he just posted and walked off and it didn't even have the right postcode so that's their investigation getting off to a great start...🎉

I had a visit back when I decided not to renew (I watch films on BD, DVD, some youtube). I had no problem letting the fellow in and we went through it. He seemed happy and I've never had an issue since. That being said: That was 2014 and far fewer people had given up watching live TV/iPlayer at that time, so perhaps the attitude by the Licensing Authority (or some of their employees) has changed a lot?

Me too, it's nice to be remembered at Christmas. Just chucked mine in the bin un opened, I'm still not going to buy either a TV or license. You tube is much more entertaining than anything that I saw 10 years ago.

I got one of these three weeks ago. I’ve been fined before when I don’t use anything. I don’t even have an arial on my wall that I can put my tv too. They’ve sent me the red letter and I’m tired of calling. Every year I call to say I do t need a license, they say I don’t need to call again. I then get this letter. I’m going to call then and take me off their system as I do not want to buy one, because I will never need one, and if I should do I’ll let them know, otherwise why am I getting these fines. 🤦🏼‍♀️ they know I can’t even plug my arial in as I do t have one in my home, it wasn’t built that way and I don’t watch tv. They haven’t knocked on my door to “investigate” not called or emailed, they’ve never even spoken to me unless o call and tell them I don’t require one. I’ve just not paid it as I do not need one, and it’s scary in these times, but you’ve made me feel like NO I’m going to put my foot down and tell them to stop harassing me with junk Mail!!!!

i find it funny how they cover ALL live tv channels.. it should only be a live BBC channel... do they send ie Sky 1 any of the TV licence money to them as TVL say you cant watch that without a TVL? even tho SKY 1 is a commercial promotion channel?

Noticed on the radio they are doing propaganda adverts about getting a license .You are probably under investigation for being on social media telling people to cancel ,and what your rights are
