I used the same design to create a small hydroponics system with just twelve growing sites. I used 1 1/2" PVC wye's just like he did and 7" pieces of pipe to connect them, and everything is just hand-fitted. I used no glue, but I did attach the upright tubes to a support with tie wraps. I use an aquarium pump and air compressor, and a short-cycle timer to keep the plants watered, and so far everything is working great! I have been eating the best lettuce and romaine I ever tasted and am experimenting with other plants as well. I am growing indoors under a grow light and I am loving every minute of it. I hope to expand before long.

Very informative video, one question do you use any substrate in the tubes for the roots to grow, i have seen some people use pond filter material as a substrate in vertical towers. So the water would be more evenly distributed when going down the tube and roots have something to grow into

How do you start the plants? It looks like the net pots can't really reach inside the pipe far enough to get watered until there are some good roots there. Or am I missing something.?
@AHhydrogrow
@AHhydrogrow 7 жыл бұрын
+Eddy's Greenhouse Garden , we start the plants at 1 week old seedlings at that point there are no roots coming out of the net pot. Yes if you just place the net pot in tower at that stage it will not get watered . If you look at a closeup in the video you will see that we pin the bottom of the net pot to the tower so the back of it touches the inside, in that way it reaches the water.

AH hydrogrow Pin the bottom of the net pots? What does that even mean?
@Workswell
@Workswell 7 жыл бұрын
oh, come on. the best way to learn about hydro is research! the net pot is hard plastic that slips in the pvc tubing it has lots of areas to "pin it" to prevent it from disappearing on you. you can use anything to pin it, even a plastic twist tie works great read up my friend. growing hydro is fun

@ristube3319 5 жыл бұрын
Eddy's Greenhouse Garden it’s sprays water and nutrients from the top to coat the internal cavity of the pipe which then drains down to the bottom where it starts over being pumped to the sprayers again.

The pump we used in this setup was a pedrolo pump it pumps approx 90L a min ,the water travels up to distribution pipes over head then to feeders at the top of the grow trees then back to the sump tank.

+Vivi Nails the water is pumped in using an interval timer which comes on 15 mins every hour from a reservoir to drippers on the top and then exits out back to the reservoir.As for the solution we use a basic hydroponic lettuce solution which you can buy at a hydroponic store .

PVC is only used for waste water here in the USA because of the toxins that leach out over time and exposure to UV light. Was this system built with UPVC or CPVC? I suspect it wasn’t because of the costs involved. That is why I got a 3d printer and made my own grow towers of PETG. Maybe that’s a better way if you’re concerned about the toxins in Polyvinyl chloride.

Hi My name is Fung. I have a question on the pre-treatment of the harvested plants. I am wondering is this a common situation that the leaf vegetable are getting soft and withered after a few days once i harvested various types of crops on my hydroponics system? I used to cut all the root and place them in indoor area with room temperature. The second question is what pre-treatment of the plants you recommend after harvesting. Thank you so much!

If you want your harvest to remain fresh for longer then do not cut off the roots and store them in a cool place or preferably a cold room.
