@10:00 to 10:18 - What Yoron Israel is doing on those drums is not humanly possible. The man has the timing of a Swiss Watch. I hear it but can't wrap my head(ears) around how beautifully complex this is. Outstanding.

This video is 10 minutes long and feels long 2. Granted I found out about him because of J Dilla and De La Soul but ever since then I've collected all of his music. His music speaks poetry and he's truly one of the greatest musicians I've ever heard. I would love to just sit and watch him play.

Scotty Robb ... You said you would love to just sit and watch him play. Well when he performed at the Atlanta Jazz Festival several years ago, that's exactly what I did. The venue was at Piedmont Park in Atlanta, so it was outside; my son and I just kicked back on the grass and watched Ahmad and his band do their thing. At that time I believe he was 83. He was the closing act on Sunday night; it began to rain just as he began playing 'Poinciana' -- absolutely no one got up and left. That was a special performance for me -- primarily because I was able to take it in with my son.

It was the World is Yours/Nas sample that cued me on to Ahmad Jamal. Pete freaking Rock.

I just love the way they're dressed; they exude class, dignity, and a respect for the music (as well as for their vocation as players).

One of the best versions of Ahmad's trio. I love John Heard's playing. I hear a lot of Khachaturian in Ahmad's solo.

Didn’t think about these parallels, maybe you have some particular Khachaturyan’s works that reminds you Jamal’s solo?

I cherish all of this: the awesome tune by Jamal, the players performance, master Jamal's brilliance. one of my all time fave musical pieces, absolutely dear to me. makes me love jazz even more, if it were possible.
