Lots of fans of Andor are on me for 'hating' the show. Let me set the record straight. I was very clear that Andor was intriguingly awful. I think that represents a pass in the context of Disney Star Wars. I still think the funeral episode was silly and Luna's performance was tedious.
@TroySpace9 ай бұрын
Andor just felt like it was a high-budget low-budget 1970s BBC series, in which we missed the pilot episode where we learned why we needed to care about the protagonist or the setting. EDIT: obviously this is because it's a prequel in an established setting. I haven't yet seen the ending, which is what Chato says killed it for him.
@steprockmedia9 ай бұрын
I enjoyed Andor, but felt it was more often "general sci-fi" than Star Wars. It drifted into cyberpunk at the outset. But it was well-done with some excellent camera work and effects. As well as having competent villains.

what is bad? a combination. the dialogue between characters seemed more like slogans, did you notice that chato? and like the characters maybe save for ahsoka, baylan, hayden, sabine at times.. acted as if they wore helmets.. no expression, stilted, stiff movements and direction. you are so right chato, filoni has pisspoor writing.. we never got any indication huayang possessed any crystals on his ship, but right when they most need one, woop there it is. garbage. why didn't they make 10 or 15 sabers before then? too much to say. huayang taught generations so why doesn't he fight with a lightsaber at all? and that inquisitor.. wtf?! disappeared in fat air.. no explanation, we just have to accept it and its never revisited like every other smarmy easteregg that casual onlookers are made to feel dumb for not getting. their ship seems irreperably damaged by gunfire from fighters that got girlpowered out of the air, but no- give huayang some minutes and its fixed again. i'm just going to say it, the maybesith padawan pissed me off. her performance was awful, her motivations were unclear, her purpose was not evident, her presence was infuriating. yet she's what we might see in the future- not her far more interesting better acted master. i suppose i should applaud the series for not having them all pull through together on thrawn's ship or in known space again by any means like their own hyperdrive fixed, but its like thanking a r@pist for not pulling out, you know? just not something you think needs a thanks. also too poorly done. oh your ship works but apparently not enough. wow. also filoni's obsession with wolves and appearances by him or hidalgo, are insatiable.. he has to do it like his dick is on fire. why? i can't tell you. what i can tell you is i have seen better fan videos than i have seen this entire series. i say it with no animosity to any actors involved, they tried their best, and the younger ones- unfortunate they were involved in such a wreckage at the start of their careers. i feel that sw would do better asking for fan submissions of stories instead.

I agree with you. I personally liked Andor - but liking something doesn't necessarily mean it's "good." I mean, if it were truly good, why were the ratings so abysmal?
@GreylanderTV9 ай бұрын
@@TwoGamingDudesMovies The ratings and fan reception of anything in a franchise are affected by everything else going on in the franchise, as well as how it is marketed. Captain Marvel did extremely well at the box office, but obviously not on its own merits, rather because it was sandwiched between and loosely connected to the two biggest MCU movies ever. The "franchise effects" can either boost, or kill, a new show or movie, regardless of how good/bad the new show is on its own. Andor's main flaw was a slower pace than necessary for the style and tone of story it was going for. Many fans who are already angry about the sequel trilogy and other bad shows were already pre-disposed to not give it a chance, so the more adult tone, and slow-burn intrigue/drama was easy to complain about being "not Star Wars".

They didn't EVEN accomplish nothing. At second 1 of this show, Ezra and Thrawn were in the side galaxy, and both Ahsoka and Sabine were in the main galaxy. At the end, Sabine and Ahsoka are both in the side galaxy, and Ezra and Thrawn are both in the main galaxy. So at the start the galaxy had a Master Jedi, and an experienced Mandalorian, and NO great threats currently opposing the New Republic. BECAUSE Ahsoka and Sabine got involved and CONSTANTLY made the worst choices they could have, these two were traded for ONE Padawan who not only did not complete his training, but is SO weak at this point he cannot deal with ONE literally brainless guy punching him despite having the force and a lightsaber, as well as the most dangerous strategist the galaxy has ever known returning in force to reignite the war....... I mean, Thrawn is a total moron that can't do anything right, but so is everyone else, so I guess it balances out. If Ahsoka had just done NOTHING, they'd have gotten rid of a Sith, a Sith in training, and the galaxy would still have Ahsoka and Sabine on hand to fight in the war Thrawn will start. Ezra would still be stuck, but who knows, Thrawn is shit with security, I'm sure he could have just stolen a trooper's armor and done EXACTLY WHAT HE ACTUALLY DID to THRIVE on an enemy ship and even take a ship to go back to the New Republic REGARDLESS. So if she'd just not done anything, everything would have worked out much better.

There are at least 3 actors in that show who are better than this. I've seen them in other things and they can act. But for some reason, the director gave them nothing. Almost every character was written, acted and directed as though emotions and drama are to be avoided at all costs. I'd like to remind people that the reason Thrawn became so popular is because he is charismatic, ruthless, brilliant... and he WINS. His introduction ended in a hopless battle that he won purely because he made a strategy on the fly that the opposing commander was psychologically incapable of combating. Outgunned, outnumbered, and with an inexperienced crew, he showed that his mind was the most terrfying weapon we have seen yet. Once he understood you, it was over. And he understood people, through art. Which was a facinating little character detail about him. Because the character we followed was his subordinate, we spent the entire trilogy playing catch-up to his already prepared plans, showing that his making a move at all meant that he was ready and confident. By the end of the trilogy, his miniscule and, frankly, pathetic force had brought the New Republic to its knees and he was only beaten because of his bodyguard. His one weakspot.

Great Review. The issue with Ahsoka is that as you said, Ahsoka is just a guest on her own story. There is no development for her, no plotline, just some fights to justify her being there. But probably the worst part is, what audience was this story made for? Casuals? No, there is no way a no fan can understand this. Star wars fan? No, they made many changes that don’t make sense. Maybe a small part of the star wars fandom doesn’t care about things like a godo story and just want to consume series with lightsabers. Who knows.

This was after his weapon system did a planet bombardment on Lothal. If he did it in year 2 of being exiled that would be 8 years of extra weight and extra fuel to keep the ship in air. Also the Nightsisters plan was on a gambit. They used their dark magic to talk with Morgan though dreams, Thrawn would not risk so much without a sound reason. If Morgan never fulfilled her end of the arrangement. Like if Sabine destroyed the sphere, then Thrawn would be ligging around these coffins with nothing to show for it. He efficiently utilized his Stormtroopers to retrieve all the coffins and put them on the Chimera in 3 days after Morgan arrived.

Oh, and the Tartakovsky CW series which goes so much harder than TCW too.

Thrawn's character was already destroyed in 'Rebels'. He kept making all kinds of stupid decisions and was outsmarted over and over again. In this show he seems to be no different, yet... disney fanboys hype him as if he was a villain as threatening as Vader or the Emperor.

"Girl-boss actions have no consequences." Right. Sabine betrayed Ahsoka's wishes and put the galaxy at risk. That's an excellent potential source of drama. It could have led to a big argument, or a passionate scene in which Sabine confesses feelings for Ezra (who Sabine perpetrated said betrayal to save), or ... *something.* But everyone just brushes over it like it's not important. Ahsoka's like, "We're cool. Everyone messes up." And Sabine's like, "Neat." lol

But he was also just a passenger of a plot that didn’t give an f about the characters, so was utterly wasted on this series. Can anyone explain to my why making Elsbeth‘s face dirty was such a big thing? When they started green flame her face, I was expecting something cool or painfully evil … but they just put some grey dirt on her face and called it a day. And hell, she wasn’t even built up to be a danger, unlike Baylan and Shin, so why throwing her in as the big danger of the finale? It’s like the writer put a lot of effort into making sure that absolutely nothing was achieved, because he felt the need to keep everything interesting for later seasons. Slow paced with a plot that begs the question: why where the heroes even there to begin with?

The Gr ee's at Mothers blessed her with the "Gift of Shadows" and infused her body with the power of the Dark Side. This greatly increases her powers. If you notice all the Great Mothers in both Clone Wars had animal markings as well as the Great Mothers in Ashoka.

Huyang having tons of lightsaber parts and hardware actually makes sense. Not that anybody watching Ahsoka would understand that. Huyang is originally from The Clone Wars. He was an ancient Jedi Droid who taught Padawans how to build Lightsabers. He was the Jedi Shop Teacher. This was from back when George still had to approve all the new characters. But once again the viewer needs to have done roughly 300 hours of homework to understand what they were seeing in this scene.
@seanyoung38649 ай бұрын
Yeah but he still shouldn't have a Kyber chrystal. Where on earth did Ezra pull that out of!?
@andrewtaylor9409 ай бұрын
@@seanyoung3864 Where did Luke get the one he used in RotJ? He built his green saber from a box of spare parts he found in Obi WAN’s abandoned hut on Tatooine. Granted I see your point. Especially given that Huyang’s story involves Padawans having to go on a quest to gather their own special Crystals from the frozen caverns of Ilum. Of course that in itself makes no sense as it clashes with the somewhat disposable nature of lightsabers we see in the movies and The Clone Wars. Anakin goes through a lightsaber a week. Obi Wan isn’t much better. Ashoka keeps changing hers like fashion statements. They are shown as expensive tools that you get yelled at for losing. Not some personally attuned holy artifact. Actually the very question involving the “Kyber Crystals” drills right down into Filoni’s biggest problem. He’s a one trick pony. And his trick is canonizing all of the fan created elements that worked their way into the EU and various fan written source books over the years. All the shit about Kyber Crystals and Lightsaber colors and a thousand other petty assed nerd rage arguments conducted over the internet for the past 40 years. None of which ever actually come from anything on screen. (Vaders lightsaber was red, simply because at the last minute they wanted something to better differentiate it. Luke’s was green because blue didn’t work against the blue sky in the sail barge fight. That’s it!)
