I'm super excited to show you how I made the interior of my Ahsoka Tano headpiece! It's not perfect, but I'm satisfied with it since it's my first attempt. :) If you'd like to see how I'm going to finish it, subscribe for Part 2!
This is for my Ahsoka Tano Cosplay from S7 (her Siege of Mandalore Outfit). To get a list of all the materials I bought for this cosplay, check out my last video here:

Btw the horns are monstrals and just like twileks, togrutas have lekku. So I guess now you have to make the lekku much shorter for the Mandalorian

I actually didn’t like the sizing of the headpiece in the Mandalorian! It was done for a reason (I heard the actress would have had difficulty moving in action scenes if it were larger) but it just seemed off to me.

but how did you even do the first head? you already started off with something to work with. i want to do mipha and i have to create it out of the air q.q and how did you trim it that smoothly? my failed head is such a mess from the cuts orz also is sewing better than just glueing the white foam?

Hi, I'm just now seeing your comment! 😅 KZfaq doesn't always notify me! I don't have a ready-to-share pattern that would work for everybody, since mine was custom. I've been seeing a lot of interest in my pattern, though, so it's got me thinking...

This is a great tutorial - would this same kind of idea work for making a season 3 rendition of her headpiece? Also wondering is it necessary to cover the upholstery foam with eva foam if you end up covering the whole thing in spandex? or does that just make the piece sturdier over all?
@KoreWonder
@KoreWonder 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I believe this method would work perfectly for a season 3 headpiece. All you'd have to do is make the head tails shorter and change the dimensions of the montrals (making them shorter too). I personally chose to use EVA over the upholstery foam because it got pretty lumpy after stitching it together, and I didn't want it to look like a poorly made pillow up top. I'm pretty certain some lumps would come through the spandex, which wasn't what I wanted since Ahsoka's head appears very smooth and dense. If you try to make a form-fitting spandex cover like I did and pull it taught against montrals made of uncovered upholstery foam, there's a chance of it squishing at the tips and becoming misshapen. However, her earlier montral points are a bit more stubby, so perhaps it wouldn't be as much of an issue in that case.

@@KoreWonder thanks for the info! Planning on doing a mockup out of paper as a trial run before committing to the foam parts. Do you think it would be too flimsy to just use eva foam as opposed to using the chunkier upholstery foam? Mainly wondering because her montrals/lekku are smaller/shorter around season 3. I'm a little nervous but super stoked to take on this project!

@@hayleyjames1864 It's my pleasure! And making a mockup is a good idea. Hmm...I would consider how just using EVA foam for the lekku might affect the functionality of the headpiece. It really depends on what you're going for. If you don't want the headpiece to slip off when you rotate your head or lift your shoulders, you will need to have a snug "helmet" section (which I still recommend making out of upholstery foam because it is soft, yet sturdy) and/or flexible lekku that will move with you, if they are longer than or at-your-shoulder length. Just using upholstery foam might work okay, since the material has some give. Another option would be to make the lekku by stuffing spandex with poly-fil. I'm not sure about just using EVA foam for the lekku because it is such a stiff material that if it hits your shoulders, if might A) restrict your movement and/or B) cause it to pop off of your head. It's still an option if you don't mind either of those possibilities.

Can it be regular paper?

Yes! You can use whatever you have lying around: printer paper, newspaper, wrapping paper, etc. But since I make patterns a lot, I like to use newsprint cause it comes in bigger sheets.

Why not make the entire helmet portion part out of EVA foam? You can literally paint directly on to them and save time on and money on sewing and fabric. Just use fabric technique for the leaky.
@KoreWonder
@KoreWonder 3 жыл бұрын
blakplanit That’s a good question! Doing so would have compromised my design for the head tails, which I desired to be weighted in order to increase flexibility (the only other way to get such flexibility would be by using materials I have no experience using, such as silicone). Had I either sewn my head tails or glued them to an EVA foam helmet, I would have risked them either falling off in a short period of time and/or suffered from a lack of counterbalance. The headpiece is already somewhat back heavy and I predict it would have had more slipping issues if made as you suggested. Using cushion for the helmet base, as I did, allows it to fit fairly comfortably and snuggly while also giving it a little more heft. My use of EVA foam on top of that was a last minute solution to create the contour I wanted for the montrals, since I realized the soft cushion was not cutting it for me. If one wished to use EVA foam for the helmet section I would suggest also making the head tails out of EVA foam.That would create a cheap and light alternative to my headpiece; though it render this tutorial entirely useless! Hope that answers your question!

This was kinda long winded and confusing
@KoreWonder
@KoreWonder 3 жыл бұрын
Hey, Yoshimus! I'm sorry you found it confusing. I'm certainly not a natural on camera, so perhaps there's room left for improvement. 💁 All of my cosplay pieces are custom (and highly experimental), so sometimes it's a little hard to explain my process. Thankfully, it seems others were able to get something from this "long winded and confusing" video - and that's all I can really hope for! Hope you can find what you're looking for elsewhere!
