We can influence to a very small degree the direction that these tools take. While posessing skills is essential, no one substitutes knowledge of such skills in their day to day activities - whether in the way we commute, work, cook or clean. AI is the next step in this evolution and we have to strike the right balance.

Assalamualaikum. I have a question. After watching this video, I understand where Sheikh Omar is coming from and I agree with him. So what about using these tools to get work done so that we have time to spend on activities we prioritize more? For example, using ChatGPT to write an essay that would have taken several hours to write so that we have more time for worship or more time to spend with our families? I am coming from the perspective of a Muslim student and sometimes it feels like there aren’t enough hours in the day and I wish I could spend more time in ibaadah instead of most of my day attending to school work.

I agree, we should not surrender the ability to think for ourselves or to write our own words. Everything we give up and allow others to do for us, gives others control over our lives. Unknown people with unknown agendas. I have been asked to use chatGPT at work, but I refuse to use it through any of my personal accounts. Why would I want to put my own unique thought and speech patterns out there for others to use, possibly against me in a criminal way?

I believe its not a problem to embrace these AI technology as long as we LEARN how to do the basic of it in the first place. Its like learning how to do house wiring by watching KZfaq video. Without the basic knowledge of it, there are high possibility you get shocked since you overlooked some basic safety practice. Similarly, asking AI to do EVERYTHING that you have no idea about and which you SHOULD have some basic about, will make us prone to misinformation and incapacitating overdependency

AI make my tedious tasks faster so more time for family and worship. It's like a water tap, much faster than going to the well everyday (but water tap make us more oblivious to wasting water). Kids should be careful about these new tech that chew all the intellectual work for them, as the mental gymnastics we had at school will be severely limited tomorrow. I fear intellectual laziness for the sake of productivity will be the new challenge.

True artificial intelligence (AI) doesn’t exist. AI is a misnomer. ChatGPT4 (Generative Pre-trained Transformer 4)is a tool or machine learning trained beta model which we train and input, it does learn based on how we design it. It can’t relate itself as an independent creation or relate as godless etc. Probably wisdom will be to first understand it better before jumping to conclusions…. Of course, practice should be to shy away from unnecessary social media and distractions which takes us Away from Allah… if something can bring us closer to Allah it maybe acceptable…. Wallah Alam

I don’t think it’s a good idea to ascribe human traits to a machine. If they are solving medical problems and analyzing data sets it makes sense; these things are good for humanity. However, human intellectual development, religion, and philosophy are inextricably linked to our faith and ability to think for ourselves. If people begin to rely on things outside of the heart, mind, and soul it is my stern belief humanity is doomed. We rely on our holy books and faith to guide us towards a better life. We turn to our creator and wait for an answer, or we read the Quran, Bible, Torah, Bhagavad Gita, etc. The moment we begin to turn to the machine first before we turn to our creator, it will bring bad results. Also the human mind will become disconnected from the inner self or soul. Social Media and the cult of instant gratification has already destroyed many young minds.
