I pretty much agree with both of you. As well as Inkblot. Inkblot has every right to tell people what to learn from and what is considered 'learning'. Inkblot wants every art piece to be 'human-unique', 24/7, all the time? That's entirely within their rights and privileges. That being said, A color palette made uniquely to define one's art style, as long as it is 100% humanly-decided color, should be allowed on Inkblot-- as long as it is substantial artwork. Human artwork should be celebrated. Always.

@@phantom-ri2tg it makes sense that the people who made these programs would work in the industry would be the ones to repurpose it for something else, or the public to use and abuse. I got well acquainted with a gal who created her own AI art program and to train it, used her own art, and uses it exclusively for her own work, but it seems that a bug in her program is that it deletes itself after a month, so she has to remake and retrain it, and she can only feed into it thirty images at a time. I hope that she's able to perfect her personal program for her sake, because I've seen a dress or two that she's made with her own program (she does digital fashion design), and it was amazing to see what she's made become something else and build on top of.

The issue with AI is not the fact, AI is a tool (that could be really useful to e.g. generate references to be used as inspiration for pieces), but the fact that in it's current stage, the rampant dishonesty from AI trainers (as they are not artists) and the unethical database that is being used. If AI generated images were to use ethically sourced databases, there would not be an issue, but sadly as it stands people and companies who use it are rather here to exploit artists than to care about ethical measures.

@@matchedpowerofthesun Well, well, well, look at us now, living in a world where The Matrix and The Terminator seem like documentaries from the future. It's both funny and mind-boggling to think about how those movies got made, especially considering that back then, AI was just a bunch of feeble machines. But hey, fast forward to today, and we've got this nifty thing called Machine Learning. Unfortunately, while we were busy being entertained by Neo and Arnold Schwarzenegger kicking some serious AI butt on the big screen, little did we know that AI would grow up to be a mischievous troublemaker. Who would've thought? Now, these fancy algorithms are being used by terrorists and scammers online, and let me tell you, that really sucks big time. It's like we let the genie out of the bottle and now we're desperately trying to shove it back in, but it's just too late. So, folks, let this be a lesson in the perils of technological advancement. As hilarious as it is to reflect on the origins of those iconic movies, it's crucial to acknowledge the real dangers associated with AI and its misuse. It will eventually come full circle though. If it's expected that AI will do our jobs for us, then it isn't expected for humans to work. Therefore, humans shouldn't be expected to have an income to provide for themselves, but rather to reap the financial benefits of the labor AI does on their behalf. Things only have a price because there are people behind those goods and services that need to be paid. An AI or robot doesn't need to be paid. That is how the people you think are being harmed actually end up benefiting the most. Their skills become a hobby for them rather than a necessity for their survival, leaving them with more free time than ever.

They of course had to adjust a lot during the production since it’s not all accurate but it helped them be able to actually make it. It’s a good example of how it can actually be used well in animation. Everything else was drawn by hand. I wish it was used like that more because it could possibly bring a 2D animation renaissance Whare it has all the cool stunning shading visuals of cgi but allows for the cool stuff that only 2D can do.

@@neeevirus what's the difference? an artist takes a tool to canvas to create what they envision using other works for reference. So... Why does it matter what tool is used to accomplish this, whether it be a paintbrush, a pencil, a camera, or programming? If you like your art hand drawn, great, but there's no need to be elitist snobs about it just bc a new more efficient tool was developed that others prefer to use. You're only binding your own hands.
@neeevirus
@neeevirus Жыл бұрын
@@rjbourgeois5490 What's the difference? If you're actually asking that question genuinely, then here's my answer: So first, in a nutshell, using ai generators, not as a tool, but as a crutch to easily get out a product is more closely related to tracing rather than referencing when an artist uses a reference, they utilize it in a way that fits their style, they recreate the reference in a certain expression that envisions what they want to achieve with their illust. Real artists have a vast knowledge in anatomy, gesture, lighting, and composition, and so with this skillset they're able to create something new. These artists use tools to assist them achieve precisely their goal for the illustration, the tool does not take over the artist's control, but rather the artists controls the tool to create specific adjustments. These tools are: liquify, blend modes, gradient maps, layers, custom brushes, transform, just to name a few. You can also use ai art generators as a tool for your art, be it if you want to photobash it in your illust, or use as refs. This is what makes an artist's work have meaning Now back to my first statement, how is using an ai art generator similar to tracing? Tracing is when people take an artwork, then draw over the lines. Never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down. They don't actually know what they're doing, they dont know the anatomical structure, the perspective, the composition, etc. The same goes for ai prompters. They don't actually know anything that's going on, they just let the ai do its thing and take all the credit. This is my verdict
@rjbourgeois5490
@rjbourgeois5490 Жыл бұрын
@@neeevirus If the tool functions in a way that allows the user to generate imagery without understanding anatomical structure as it has already been built within the functions of said tool to output, how is it any different to just taking years to learn it in classical education? Artisans do the same thing except at a more extended period of time during their schooling and practice work. It's not a 1 to 1 trace of an existing work (unless it's been specifically prompted to do so), it is taking references (exactly like an artist does) of existing works to figure out how and what is expected of it's output to be considered on par with our current understanding of art expectations. Artisans didn't create the human body, nor did they create the lush fields of grass. All ai is is an expedient tool, more efficient than the pen, and on point with the camera. All you are proclaiming in that last comment is a gatekeeping of a particular method of output to achieve your desired results. If you don't like the tool, you don't have to use it. That's the good thing about tools, they are designed to make life easier for it's wielder but aren't a requirement as there always other methods and means.

For me, it makes my life easier because while I'm great at programming, I suck with a pen in hand in terms of producing what I'm envisioning. Some companies will want to take the cheap way out and hire crap artisans to cut budget costs, but the question is do you think that will effect their bottom line when they can't design quality product? At least man made art is copyright protected while AI art isn't. That would definitely affect things like profit. Companies actually being able to own the rights to products and, therefore, are able to sell them and earn lots of revenue. And in terms of you being not good at drawing, practicing drawing is how you get better at drawing, just like any other skill. I only went because my relatives found out a relative of them-who is also a regional musician-would be there. It was a great show... Except they have been caught using AI art in the background. There was a screen behind the musicians that was supposed to show speeches from the organisers of the event. During some of the songs the musicians played, realistic pictures of men in horses with flags of my home country-Brazil-as well as Argentina and Uruguay, sometimes. How did I find it was AI art? Firstly, I know by heart how the Brazilian flag is supposed to look like. It has a strip in the middle of the blue circle with "Ordem e progresso" (Order and progress in Portuguese) written on it. On the pictures shown at the concert, the text was illegible. In another picture, the flag of Argentina, which was supposed to have two light blue stripes, a white one between them, and a sun in the middle, has a white jack with another sun, possibly a result of blending it with the flag of Uruguay in the same picture. The last picture had a blend of the Brazilian and Argentinian flag in a very shadowy shade. In two similar flags. Along with a seemingly pure Brazilian flag on the other side. I was shocked. I would never expect a regional music presentation use AI art. So far, this is the only thing I hated about the concert. This is what being a vexillology nerd does to you.

When I first heard that adobe was developing AI image generators, i was under the impression that using adobe software would automatically put your works on a list for the Ai to use as training material. If you're scared of AI replacing you then you must be a pretty mediocre artist to be frank
@BeepBoopBee
@BeepBoopBee Жыл бұрын
@@Sammysapphira I'll be honest and say that I'm not that great yet. But quite frankly, that's a pretty irrelevant point when AI could previously just copy any work or style without the artist being able to prevent it. Glaze does combat this, but it's still relying on actually applying that glaze to your work. If you're not yet familiar with how to do so or you aren't aware of its existence, an AI can just copy your work or make new works in your style without much trouble. Like mentioned in the video here, AI image generators are getting scarily good at making realistic images and people are using these generators to pass of images as artworks made by someone else. And that has many scary implications, but the relevant one here is that a company can use an AI image generator trained on your works and use it to create their book cover or game assets in your art style without having to actually hire anyone to make that art. And if it's a smaller company or it's a company that you would have no way of reasonably knowing about, they can literally get away with it. And with artists historically being underpaid and underappreciated, it was a pretty reasonable fear that AI was going to replace jobs. Hell, we saw it happen already! As a relatively new artist that doesn't just do it as a hobby anymore, it's already difficult to find work that actually pays you properly for your work. It's already difficult to compete with people that are much more experienced or have a larger following. But competing with AI in a landscape where there were no protections for artists against that AI? That's a scary thing even for very experienced and skilled artists. I'm lucky enough to have a job at a small place where I can simultaneously hone my skills. But i was considering looking into freelance work to have more freedoms in how to schedule my days. And AI image generators coming onto the scene and already doing work that normally would've been done by artists really made me doubt if i would even get any projects to work on when AI could do it for free. And I know I'm not the only one who was having similar worries. Even artists that are really really good at what they do. No human could reasonably compete with an AI that can make photo realistic images non stop. Skill level isn't a relevant factor here. Fact is that humans need time to eat, drink, sleep, maintain personal hygiene, take breaks and actually create the art piece in the first place. An AI can do the same or even better work within a minute, for free and non stop. If legal risks are not considered (which was the case for a good few months at least), then what would be more profitable for a company? Hire a human to create a galaxy drawing that will take 10 hours or ask an AI to create the exact same thing in 5 minutes for free? Even the best artist in the world couldn't compete with that

AI isn't all bad. While yes, AI removes the intention of the person creating it. It still takes effort to tune it to your liking, and isn't just putting a prompt. That takes creative thought. Myself being close to understanding computer science and techology like AI, shows myself that most artists like yourself are really withdrawn from how AI really functions. With any tool, there's an abuse of it. We gave up the right long ago to having constraints on technology, now using it everyday. You yourself, use it to make digitial art. With these luxuries like being able to draw on a machine comes consequence, and everybody has understand we choose to live in a world where AI exists. You can't be selective and just say AI's the bad guy! Not us! I'd compare AI to collage art, where its arranging a bunch of hundreds of sources to create relativity to the prompt you generate. Except AI art isn't collage art. Its much different, and any good model "interpolates" so that no 1 output is the same. The problem lies where it samples too much from one source. And while I'm sure it will be improved, and I do think anything like AI being regulated is good. If AI art is targeted for specific praticles, then that begs the question whether artists should be looked into for similiarity's. Like how most artwork is derivative nowadays, what is too derivative and what is just modern art? Some excuse that for being "no originality exists" But as you said, its getting better at making imagery that is visually refined. Its okay if you think AI art is not good, but its not right to demonize the people using it. As I've used it, not for profit. This feels more of a battle between whether software engineers or artists will come out on top. Software enginers are given no credit and are mistreated as shown with how you artists are diminishing their efforts whilst they are making robust technocialities that are supposed to open new possiblities. The same people who make all the programs you use on a daily basis but you don't give them a second thought when its their time to create something ambitious with AI models. These developers make AI better so that you have the possiblity to use it. I'm against reselling AI art, but if its free or is used in a both resourceful and creative way, what's the issue? I am sympathic towards artists losing their jobs, but when one door closes and other one opens. We shouldn't be treating this like the "endangerment of artists". If artists embraced AI then maybe they would get the benifits from it. This seems very narrow-minded and paranonia-ridden. AI can never replace the human element of art, it can can only simulate it to percision.

You would think artists would be all for the unrestrictive nature that art is suppose to facilitate. There's nothing new under the sun. All ai is doing is taking inspiration from existing works, much like that of what humans artisans do as well. It's simply that of an elitist attitude to gatekeep. My second journal ever was from redbubble (I wanted a DID journal and couldn't find one elsewhere) it was 23$ (yeesh) and broke within a few days. But between sunk cost fallacy and the fact that journals aren't really replacable, I used it until full with a few pages only halfway in and the binder tearing. Wasn't remotly worth it. Loved the next journal I got, which was more neurodiversity in general instead of just DID.

If you don't like the art, you don't have to buy it. Banning a tool just because some people have a differing opinion or skills is retarded, especially if one is capable of making a living off of it's usage. It's an advancement, much like photography was, and just as difficult to effeciently use as doing so by hand. I've spent hours trying to generate something I'm satisfied with using prompts like paint on a canvas. It's turning a type of programming into an art form that results in the possibility of masterpieces that relies on your imagination just as conventional art to create. As to Redbubble, unfortunately, you are hosting your pieces on a site whom determines it's own policies and procedures in order to make a profit. If you have issues with the site in question, the only way to circumvent such is to design your own platform you can host your artwork for sale. It's the same for any seller platform. The one's whom host your listings for others to buy are the same one's who determine fee structures because they are the ones whom funnel your traffic for you. They are in it for profit just as most sellers are. I have to agree though, fuck Redbubble.

There is people who can't literally draw... I was an artist all my life, and now, mid 30's, my hands started to shake, so i can't draw anymore... I LOVE to share stories in the comic medium, but now that i can't draw, it is imposible for me to do what i love... AIs helped me keep doing it, but now it find that the people who shared my interests and were my friends, feel awfully bad around someone who use AIs to do his work... I wanted to keep being the friendly artist i always was, but sadly, now i can't draw anymore, it seems i am not part of this family anymore... It pains me so hard... I feel like i was a runner, running al day with my friends, but now i lost my legs i can't run anymore... So i use some robotic limbs... Now my friends thinks i'm cheating and don't want to run with me anymore... You know what I mean?? Is like... Idk man, is weird, is like you can keep doing what you love, but you're all alone now, and then is not enjoyable anymore... In fact people keep treating you as a cheater, telling things like "you're not an artist because you can't draw". It's really painful and hard to live like this... I can't find happyness in what i do..

There are plenty of artists who are embracing AI for our workflows and to create our art. Those of us who make it for the love of making it, not to monetize our creativity. For every community who doesn't accept you, there's always another who will. I draw quick sketches, run it through a diffusion model to colour and add detail, then manually clean up the image. It has MASSIVELY sped up my work flow. I can create at a staggering rate now, almost as quickly as I can have ideas. AI art generators are just a tool to help you express your creativity, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

whilst the ai art being banned in video games sounds hopeful, it's a shame that Blizzard has created their own AI tool that artists have to work with, the president of the company has also said they are looking into developing level design AI and code generators :(

Banning AI art in games is frankly asinine and anybody that thinks otherwise fails to understand that a videogame is a computerized abstraction of art to begin with. Do you think the artists hand paint every shadow in a video game? Fuck no, they use algorithms. How is it any different from using an algorithm to generate a minecraft world? It's "Programmer's art".

Especially taking into account that at the end of the day the wallet will speak for the customers, if it's trash the game will less likely to be bought , however if the AI manages to do a great work it will be a gain of time and money , letting the devs and graphic designer focus on different aspect of the games. Those anti-AI artist remind me of this sub-category of Protestant Christianist in the 19th century who started destroying machines and did everything to slow down industrial technology , see how it ended up working out for them , lol.

I like it. A compilation of current events. The format feels familiar to me since I've been watching tech-focused, condensed news videos of late, mostly due to trying to keep up with the never-ending developments in AI. So, it's nice to receive such a video from an artist's perspective. I'd heard of some of these, but not the others. Thanks for giving us the big picture!

Some of these policies while they sound good will hurt actual artists For instance r/art banned AI art, but they often targgeted digital artists who look like they used it but didnt. It also prevents artists who use AI art as a tool, like with photobashing from posting their art. Also, I think corridor crew anime is a good thing. While i dislike their marketing of "democratizing art" they still put alot of time and creativity into their work. Unlike most AI "artists" who can finish a project at the click of a button, they spent months doing this and made several techical advancements. Hate them or not you gotta admit its impressive and not like most of what ai artists do. I wish my uncle was like them. My uncle is addicted to AI art and spends his free time generating images and shit articles with chat gpt. If he actually worked on a project with collaboration with AI instead of expecting it to do everything for him id be impressed.

I've always wanted to break into the film industry but my ideas tend to be the kind that would take upwards 100 million dollars to make, and its not such a simple thing for me to just have different ideas that would be easier to make. I've tried writing but I typically can't make it through anything I'm writing. There are usually gaping holes in my ideas and I tend to write slowly anyway and get writers block easily, so a program that would allow me to quickly iterate on ideas could be helpful and if AI imagery gets good enough I might just be able to put my visions out there directly. I don't expect anyone to like any of my ideas but just seeing what I had in my head on screen can be its own source of satisfaction. What I'm trying to say is that the existence of AI generation is the closest I've come to making art. I can't say that I've been entirely satisfied with the results I've gotten. If you have a specific idea rather than just a general idea, getting the ai to do it without adding something extra, unexpected, or just plain entirely different from what you asked is like pulling teeth. There's also a ton of things I want to do that I just plain can't because they involve violence or suggestive content (pretty much the two most basic draws to art). One certainly won't be making the next game of thrones on any of the currently available ai services. I've never posted anything I've made anywhere because I too don't see it as real art and I haven't given up on making real art yet. I'm sorry that real artists have been negatively effected by the existence of ai art generation. It seems like humanity can't have anything nice without abusing it. I've never been a big supporter of copyright, mostly because the vast majority of my perception of copyright has been shaped by watching large companies bullying small independent creators making fan content like amv's, fan animations, and fan games and other such things. I really started finding the concept of copyright ridiculous when people were saying that "The Hunger Games" were a ripoff of "Battle Royale." I'm probably alone in thinking this and probably for a good reason but an idea that is in your head is in your head regardless of where it came from. I don't know if Suzanne Collins got her ideas from watching "Battle Royale" or James Cameron got his ideas for Avatar from watching "Fern Gully" and playing "Warcraft" and I don't really care. To me, what they made is a perfectly valid use of the ideas that were in their heads regardless of where they got them from, they're not direct copies of any particular thing and they still took a significant amount of creativity to put together. That being said, I've heard about many of the abuses that have happened to real artists and that absolutely pisses me off. For the most part I'm like so what if your work is in some AI database, that's how the machine works, it shouldn't hurt so long as no abuses the ability to make such imagery but of course someone somewhere just simply has to. There was an artist doing a livestream and someone in the audience took a screenshot of the WIP, had an AI finish it, and then claimed the original artist was copying his work... I'd love it for non artists to have the ability to communicate ideas visually but if this is how they're going to act when they have that ability then I guess non-artists just don't deserve it. And yes I do find attempts to copyright ai prompts to be a completely ridiculous endeavor and I just know that if I had what I sometimes think I want and copyright were either abolished or significantly weakened (patent protection as well) the first thing that would happen is that every company under the sun would immediately begin gathering popular ideas spamming half baked copies of everything everywhere without a single cent going to any actual creators. I believe there is a good way to use this technology but it requires that the people who use it conduct themselves with integrity and respect for one another, most especially respect for the artists that the AI relies on to function. Just like having access to sharp objects (as most people do) and not hurting people with them (as most people don't). If this cannot be expected of ai users then I'm afraid I can't support this technology even though I want to. I'm not exactly switching sides but I think going forward I'm just going sit on the sidelines of this debate, see what happens and accept whatever outcome we get.

I think AI art just isn’t art. As it wasn’t created with a conscious creative mind. And therefore it shouldn’t get any copyright protection because there is no person that owns it. And the AI software that made, it doesn’t understand the concept of what it just made

I love that you removed the vertical strips in the video. It so clean and crisp! I also like your character upfront in the video more too. Sadly though, I would steer clear of Society6 as well if I were to be honest with you. The "Sales" they show on their products. Well that comes out of the artist's pocket NOT the site's. You have no control whatsoever on sales; release, length, priceings, etc. You cannot opt out of them either. By the time everything is said and done. The 'sale's' strip you of almost half of your earnings (depending on what you were selling) and half of the stuff...well you are basically making the site free money for the smaller stuff like stickers and magnets.
