The term robot really doesn't apply. At least not in our modern sense of the word. As archaeologists of a sort, they could be considered workers which was the original meaning of the word robot, but not in the sense of being essentially mechanical slave labor. In fact, the term mechanical as it's generally used probably doesn't apply all that well either. Since I don't know what exact technology is implied, but it's obviously meant to be technological, I would simply call them evolved technological entities, or in reference to their having a physical form, evolved technological beings.

The depiction is of a future in which what's left of the culture started by humans includes technological beings who have chosen a humanoid form and who seem to recognize and acknowledge the value that humans contributed do the early development that led to their evolution. Basically, those are archaeologists, who discovered something from very long ago. So long ago, in fact, that it was a time we primitive humans might even recognize as familiar.
