Would like to use this space to give a giant thank you to everyone who has subscribed since I posted my last video and been waiting patiently (and sometimes impatiently) for me to post again. 🙏The channel had less than 1,000 subscribers when I posted my last video and we are now closing in on 7,000. That's incredible. I didn't publish a new video for 4 months because I got caught up in working on a very ambitious video that I eventually shelved to work on this one. I hope to continue posting at least once per month. I still am not even monetized, so I won't be able to focus as much time on this channel as I would like until it is generating something of an income. For anyone that wants to become an early patron of this channel, check out my Patreon and all the different levels: patreon.com/futurenow. I want this Patreon to add more value to the channel, it is not a "donation." This includes posting updates on there and the occasional "vlog" letting folks know how the next video is coming along. If you're even considering supporting this channel either on Patreon or by sharing my videos, thank you x10000. It means a lot. 🙌🏽

Is not the quality of the video but the message!!!! Who cares about graphics.... finding someone who's willing to tell the truth is priceless .... now how do we know what he is saying is the truth???? Is that opinion based on books or social media or what? Now days we don't know what to believe or who's telling the truth... is he being manipulated by someone or is he talking from his hart? Or does he only cares about the money?

This'd probably create some new kinds of jobs, like for example: Actual living models to be 3D scanned and mocapped, 3D Modelers, Programmers, Voice Actors, betatesters... I feel like this wwould be more of a shift than an actual reduction of workforce.

I think the future will definitely be self employment considering how much more people are self employed and if they employed only 2-3 people each they would significantly cover the work force

This was so well made! Especially starting at 5:44 and on. Please, do make a video tackling the issue with education in more depth. Even though you say you're not qualified to talk about it, something tells me you would do the due diligence to make it as accurate as possible, and would be upfront on what is your speculation, and what is backed by data.

I've always wondered: will there be a day when our society starts giving out free food due to machines being able to farm, clean, and wrap contents? Will there be a day when a job seems like a historical relic. Now, this is all assuming that we live in an almost-perfect society free of conflict.

Castor, I think the fact that not having a job seems like our lives have "no point" is a symptom of our capitalist society. Everything is built around work. But if you had an extra 8+ hours every day, life could have a new meaning, a different one for everyone. Some folks live their whole lives working and never get to travel to the places they wanted to, or learn a new instrument, etc. If I was set with money, I'd probably still keep making KZfaq videos, in fact I'd have a lot more time and resources to put more out there.

I'm going to school to become a programmer, but school doesn't teach me what I *really* want to become. It's true that they don't really teach complex problem-solving; that, we have to learn on our own and those who don't end up suffering in their courses. Definitely do make more videos on this subject, it's super interesting stuff. I want more future, now!
@FutureNow
@FutureNow 6 жыл бұрын
I've heard from certain founders who say the don't hire developers with a degree in computer science, because they don't like the way universities teach programming. I think that's pretty extreme, and more than a little ridiculous, but it's interesting ... definitely indicative that there is a problem. I would say the same is true for people who go to film school and want to become a video editor, like I did. I could have spent 4 years and much less money learning to be a way better video editor than I did getting thousands of dollars in debt in college. But I was actually mostly referring to K-12 education on programming in the video, since that is becoming more popular. Glad to know folks are interested in the education topic. I still am curious to research the topic more myself, so it's likely I'll make another video on it ... in the future.
@CKTDanny
@CKTDanny 6 жыл бұрын
I think the most of the founders who subscribe to that policy are successful people who were once students and understand the underlying issue in today's education. That, or they at least have a thorough understanding of how it all works but it seems they are sending a message to the youth. If I recall, Elon Musk has similar policy. It definitely is pretty bold. But it's like you mentioned, people are now starting to discover and turn to services like Skillshare to acquire the skills they need to get to where they want to be. I think the traditional education system will have to reinvent itself, as more millennials become parents and voice their demands. I wish I could speak more about K-12 programming education, but I only got mine as an elective for 3 years since 9th grade and I had the same awesome teacher throughout. He had a relaxed style and focused more on teaching the logic (problem-solving) and the concepts. Unfortunately, by that point, most students were already too used to regurgitating information and required additional help. I'm also interested in the AI topic, hoping to see more! :)
@FutureNow
@FutureNow 6 жыл бұрын
Indeed. I think it's good for founders to be sending out that message. I think there is absolutely still a place for university education, but they need to start innovating more if they want to stay competitive. I had no programming education in K-12, as it wasn't as mainstream of a profession or skill as it's become in the last 10 years. Oh I will definitely have more on AI as well ...

Jobs that 'earn an income' are actually a really narrow definition of the work people do.. There's a lot of things people do, which are productive to society, but are incapable of earning someone a paycheck. We should acknowledge that, and with automation increasing and more people doing those things, I think a Basic Income is certainly a plausible solution. It's not good for the wealth-inequality gap to climb this high, back to Gilded Age levels, but it's happened through lobbying and gradually picking apart the middle class, stagnating wages while productivity and wealth skyrocketed.. And it's hardly fair how money in politics has pushed that so far.. So I think redistribution though taxes is probably the way to go, and considering how much higher taxes on the wealthy were pre-Reagan, that shouldn't be out of the question.

That’s fine as long as the executives who own the machines decide to spread the wealth. This would amount to some sort of corporate socialism, or in the case that government takes over work because it’s all automated ... some sort of full-on socialism. Definitely an interesting future to consider. How does the disappearance of work affect the economy? What is the worth behind money? How is it decided who gets how much money? etc.

no because education is inherently traditional and cannot teach anyone anything that the teacher themselves were not taught when they went to school as a child. this cannot develop any nonexistent skillset into existence and thus cannot create demand for job varieties that do not yet exist on the labor side even if workers for those new jobs are in high demand on the employer side.

With due respect to your view, I would like to say that, I very much doubt about your experts prediction or conclusion on future of jobs. As you put it; ‘65% (2/3) of students entering elementary schools today, will (need) work on jobs that haven’t been invented yet’. To elaborate it little more: in the next 10 to 15 years the overwhelming majority of today’s eliminatory and the above class students will be working on completely new kind of jobs that have not yet been invented! You seem to base you conclusion by the lesson learned from past history of Industrial Revolution. My question is could you provide those ‘ new’ Job category list and the total volume or percentage of job existing today which were absolutely not existing some 10 to 15 years before? Now without arguing any further, let me put forward my view on this future job matters in the following. What we need today is a HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE, with scientific temperament to understand and deals with this issue. THE EXPONENTIAL GROWTH IN THE A.I. TECHNOLOGY WILL RENDER MOST HUMAN LABOR OBSOLETE, SOONER THAN LATER. The emerging AI robot machines will become the new world working class of the future. In my opinion, the rapid progress in the AI ROBOT automation provides the great historical opportunity that the humankind has been waiting since its beginning. To emancipate from the drudgery of human labor. The SERVITUDE, enslavement, humiliation that the majority of the population compelled to undergo by the minority in order to earn their living i.e. wages, salaries or income. Now, with the progress in the AI technology we can gradually get rid and finally abolish the human labor for wage system and replace it with an equitable income sharing system. It can begin with the Unconditional or Guaranteed Income popularly known as the Universal Basic Income or the UBI. My book titled “An Alternative to Marxian Scientific Socialism: The Theory Reduction in Working Hours (RWH); ….” Published in the year 1981. Today I rename it as Zero Work Theory (ZWT) More of its details in the links bit.ly/2Id6eL0, bit.ly/2eARyEx bit.ly/2nR4MAP The gist of the theory is; “Labor” or work is the compulsion on humans (originally imposed by nature) to obtain their means of subsistence. The "human labor relation" is the ROOT-CAUSE OF EXPLOITATION on man by man. It results it all kinds of subjugation, injustice, inequality and corruption in the hitherto human society. According to the RWH Theory, the AI ROBOTS are the EMBODIMENT of the mankind’s million years of historical struggle, technological endeavor, and dream to overcome their labor/work for SURVIVAL. Now it had culminated into complete replacement of the human labor, jobs or employment. Its first stage began with the early humans primitive tools used as the replacement of their body, limbs in their day to day work for survival. It reached many levels of mechanical development and sophistication continued for hundreds and thousands years of ancient to medieval history. The second stage began at around 18th century with the advent of steam engines electrical motors merging with the machine tools popularly known as the Industrial Revolution . It most importantly replaced the human muscle power in the human labor equation with the unimaginable inanimate energy force unparalleled in the history. These machine tool although able to do the hard labor of hundreds of thousands of workers nevertheless always needed the humans intelligent brain cognitive power to perform, conduct the given work or duty. The third and final stage began with the advent of Semiconductors or the microchip revolution. The Exponential growth of the microprocessors started the era known as the Artificial Intelligence. The 21st century AI robots automation started rapidly replacing humans (biological) intelligence with its human brain like neurological machine deep learning algorithms. AI today is getting far more superior to the humans biological brain in the performance of all human work. Its cognitive learning ability can supersede any intelligent human brain enabling the robots to render every “paid” human labor completely redundant or obsolete. Now, the only way to progress towards the mankind’s destiny is; A Gradual Reduction in Working Hours aiming towards the complete abolition of the Wage labor i.e. jobs. However, considering the failure or stagnation of the reduction of working hour movement in the last decades and the present worlds rapid AI exponential technological progress and disruption, I realize that a guaranteed Basic Income or the Equitable Universal Basic Income fulfills the final objectives of the RWHT. Nevertheless, my views on the UBI not the same as many of the UBI proponent, who see it as mainly as an incentive to the poor workers to work more productively with the additional income and to supplement to their wages. I argue UBI needs to act as a complete replacement to the wage-labor. “UBI SHOULD ALLOW THE PEOPLE TO BECOME ECONOMICALLY INDEPENDENT, TOTALLY FREE FROM THE DRUDGERY OF WORK, OUT OF THE SERVITUDE, HUMILIATION OF WAGE-LABOR IF THEY WANT. This will also encourage a substantial portion of the laboring population to quit their jobs, which will positively result in the increase in the employment, wages thereby further rapid AI automation in the entire industry. The recommendation of an adequate amount of UBI without having the compulsion of wage-labor, mean ZERO WORK for the individuals which can achieve the overall Reduction in Working Hours in the society, thefinal GOAL of the RWH Theory. So now I prefer the name “Zero Work Theory” (ZWT). I have explained more about this theory in my blog. The principle behind the ZWT is that the fruits of the progress in the science and technological in the human society should not be appropriated or concentrated in the hands of only a few but it is their historical responsibility and every people concerned, to see to it that the benefit should be equally shared among all members of the society IN ABUNDANCE. This is inevitable future, the elite class should understand what is coming, whether they like it or not.
