I often wonder why Boomer parents found it so important to raise us to be so self-reliant. My mom bought a set of encyclopedias so she wouldn’t even have to answer my questions. "Look it up." was the only answer I got from her after that. That’s over $13,000 (adjusted for inflation) to not have to bother with answering your kids questions. 😐

early proto-Xer here... latch key kid from before they called it that. We just said "My mom has a job" like it was a great thing.... and being all for it at the time because our parents were batshit crazy and we didnt like them much. The music and art culture was surely of note... much never surfaced above ground due to the scorn for commerciality.

Rules and regulations are the opposite of what makes gen-x unique. It is laughable to consider applying them in any way to a generation that continues to instinctively push against the status quo.

As millennial by technicality that grew up as a gen X, raised by boomers but lived many years in poverty with my GI-Gen grandparents on a remote farmsted. I can confidently say we are ALL F#*ked. This labeling of gens we adopt is just another decisive tool that has people pointing fingers at others. At the end of the day, we are all humans, and if Gen Y grew up in the exact same conditions/ circumstances as a Gen X, they would have the exact same point of views/beliefs/actions. there is no difference from each Gen, just have different lived experiences. Only when we choose to accept and learn from other peoples lived experiences can we grow together, until then, we will remain divided and continue this every man for himself mentality that promotes greed, war, jealousy etc.

The greatest memories of my childhood are of setting out on an adventure during summer break. Me and my neighbor friends would make a goal like "we're gonna make it out to the old overpass"... Along the way you'd run into a group of kids from another part of town and your groups would merge for a bit. You'd pasd along all the pertinent news and gossip, tell Sean to tell Darren to call you when he sees him, and then the combined group would break apart on seperate adventures. Along the way you'd stop by businesses where someone knew someone working... Maybe your mom had called the gas station and said "if you see my son tell him dinner is at 6". Places were information hubs often... Along the adventure, someone mught know a way the group could make a bit of money. "Lets see if Mrs So and So will give us ten bucks to carry that junk away". By the end of the day (6pm because the owner of the gas station indeed delivers the message) everyone has peeled away to get to their streets, while its just you and your neighbor remaining. "Hey tomorrow we need to work on digging the hole in the field deeper..." 1994 was the greatest year of my childhood. Things got a bit more complicated after that, and by 96 I had a car.

I have to tell you that Gen X is by far and when I say by far I'm talking about an unreachable level above every other living generation in the United States in terms of pretty much everything. We rule the world.... period!!! Not only do we have the world's richest people, the world's largest collection of innovators and leaders of change but we have the healthiest and most likely to live the longest generation to date! I don't wear my Nirvana T-shirt cause I never really liked Nirvana but I wear my iron maiden T-shirt and I can still skate, surf as well as the fact that I worked in Silicon Valley for 10 years!

What is interesting is other generations criticize Gen X but we are now your parents -Millenials and Gen Z. So, like a good Gen Xer- I will say shut your mouth, get it done, and move on. Gen X will keep things straight and fair to humanity.

First, we don’t care about recognition. Leave us alone and let us do and the world will be a better place. Hopefully we are about to have the first Gen X president. It’s not that we don’t care. Well we don’t most of the time. However when we do care hold on.

the media defined us genXers as slackers when there were no jobs to be had thanks to the recession, so we invented a whole new industry. I was in it in South Park in the early 90s and there was so much energy for the possibilities of the WWW, all for it to be turned into crap by jerks like Elno and Zuckerberg, who refuse to be socially responsible with the power of their platforms.

We took care of ourselves. We learned from being outside, and we were OUTSIDE a LOT! We respected our elders. We learned how to lose so we could know how to win. If you weren't good enough, you didn't get a ribbon. It made us stronger and try harder. We had jobs at 10, 11, 12 years old. We saved our money if we wanted to buy something. We weren't coddled, we learned the hard way, and the hard way often came with a good smack to the face. We survived and in fact, we overcame.

More than half of Fortune 500 CEOs are part of Gen X, as are many of the movers and shakers in the tech world. They include Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, Satya Nadella, Larry Page, and Sergey Brin, which stands to reason since they all came of age during the personal computer revolution

Boomers made laws that chased our jobs overseas by getting rid of tariffs. Goods could now be shipped into America at no cost but leaving the country costs thousands. Plus, they don't have labor laws in the countries they landed in.

Yeah I’m Gen X, and I listened to this video for 2 minutes and 47 seconds too long. It’s just more useless crap these “non-Gen Xers”, pump out because they want their opinions to be relevant. It’s boring as shit. Just forget about us…don’t make videos about us…we don’t like you…it’s just a pain in the ass to even communicate with you. That’s because the generations after us are useless, too weak and self conscious, and crave validation for everything. Please go and bury yourselves in the backyard.

Gen X is overlooked because we had no chance numerically. We were far outnumbered by the boomers, and were probably the first generation excited about the next generation because Millennials had the numbers to overthrow the boomers we never did.

Sorry to say folks, but people who were born in the mid to late 50s did all this before Gen X. l am one when l was 10 in the 60s l was out playing till it got dark came home from school washed dishes tidied up and out all day playing my mum and dad worked l went to school on my own and came back so stop taking all the clout for this us kids from the mid to late 50s had already done this before most of you were born so yup stop taking all the clout by the time l was 14 l was working in school holidays and week ends ohvand if you really played up in school teachers in them days well the discipline could be pretty harsh and that got stopped in the 70s l think in britain anyway especially high school so get of your high horses we had it harder than 5 to 10year olds in the 70s
