This guy is leading! No- That guy is leading! This guy won! No- THAT guy won!
A glitch in the timing screens meant the wrong man won the race. But it was all resolved later on and nobody seemed upset the win had been moved to who it should have been on the top step. But had the red flag come just a few miles earlier...
Enjoy! And remember to like and subscribe for more!

@@_CJ JPM + 2003 BMW Williams was a fast but fragile combination. Juan was one of the few drivers to have the nerve to go toe-to-toe with Schumi at his best, but neither he nor his team could hold the challenge together. They should have won the constructors title but choked in the last race when they could have walked it.

CART also mandated the hans device for ovals for the 2001 season and then for the entire schedule the next year. The madation was most likely accelerated by Oriol Servias Laguna Seca lawn dart crash. He was lucky in that one

Not really. When your category's biggest star at the time (Dale Earnhardt, Sr.) dies on the last lap of your category's most prestigious race (2001 Daytona 500) and the HANS device was something folks believed could have saved his life, that would explain why the American categories (NASCAR and CART) moved quicker to mandate it than F1.

Anytime someone talks about Justin Wilson it makes me a little sad. His death coming so soon after Jules Bianchi was so unfair. I said this on the Monaco 1996 video, but Panis did have a fuel stop when he picked up slick tyres. He didn't need much as he had a full tank when he started and just topped up the tank. You can see it on the race if you have a copy

Canada 99 was Scumacher's last race error retirement before then (Silverstone was car failure), unless you count Germany 2000 at the start where he left Fisi with nowhere to go. Brazil 03 was one of my favourite races and why we need to race in the heavy rain again.

Another oddity. Jos Verstappen, driving a Minardi, was trying a similar strategy to Fisi, again with the full tanks and Bridgestone inters. Only he spun off before he could make it work, and missed a chance for Minardi's best ever result, and was therefore set for a life of living-through-his-kid.

As a NASCAR fan in addition to F1, this race reminds me of the very first Daytona 500 in 1959 in terms of how the race was decided days after the event took place. In that event Johnny Beauchamp was initially declared the winner by NASCAR officials in a photo finish. Then 2nd placed Lee Petty (the father of NASCAR legend Richard) protested that & was given the win 3 days later after Bill France looked at the photo of the finish.

I remember reading somewhere that Minardi was allegedly gambling on a similar strategy with Verstappen's car, topping up with fuel & no-stopping on the off-chance the race would be cut short at the right moment. IIRC, there was much discussion in the commentary box regarding who had been in the lead and at what point. I seem to have a memory of them getting it right and being surprised by the initial result given. Having said that, I've watched so many races, only partly F1, that could have happened in a little known touring car race somewhere out of the way 🤷🏻‍♀️. Some things I remember like I'm watching a video, others... Some days I forget why I went in the bathroom FCOL! 🤣 I definitely remember thinking that a) Fisi should have won (probably because it was a Jordan and a Jordan winning, regardless of the opposition, was always going to override my more rational thoughts. You should have seen me when a Minardi got a point! 😂) and b) the whole going back 2 laps was a shitty idea which needed changing. It seems that I was not alone because I have vague memories of it being changed to whoever crossed the line in first place at the end of the previous lap to the red flag, no matter where they were. That is unless they had crashed or broken down between the line and the red flag going out. I had thought that was unfair, but at the time it happened, there were a few drivers who would have willingly "broken" their car in a red-flag-inducing position after the required distance, particularly in the rain. So excluding those drivers was a good idea, if harsh for the most part. I'm not sure when they changed it to the last sector, except for remembering that I was really surprised by it because I hadn't heard anything about the change. It's probably the fairest system, because - _I think_ - they still exclude those who go out between leader going past the last sector "mark" and the reason for the flag. Then again, I might have missed the point about today's rules... 🤷🏻‍♀️

Regarding Ferrari's slow start, they actually ran the F2002 at the first 4 races as the F2003GA wasn't ready yet, the F2002 taking its final win at San Marino. For Schumacher's first retirement due to driver error, I suspect you were being a bit sarcastic / humorous about his relentless consistency at this point but you weren't far off the mark, Canada 1999 is the only one I can think of when he hit the wall of champions. He had a couple of incidents in 2000 and 2001 where arguably collisions were predominantly his fault but the last instance of him just dropping it was Canada. Brasil 03 was indeed a mad race, it makes me laugh now with all the people complaining about the FIA and not being able to run a bath let alone a Grand Prix, this is nothing new, there have been controversies, dodgy penalties and inconsistent rulings since the dawn of racing. Embrace it, its part of the fun.

The irony of this race was that Interlagos' Turn 3 is named "Curva do Sol" - the Portuguese for "Corner of Sun," and it was the single wettest part of the track in that fateful race, as well as collecting the most retirements from that race as a result. I'm surprised that that corner wasn't renamed to "Curva do Chuva" or "Corner of Rain" for some ironic banter.

I often wonder what would've happened if Webber hadn't have crashed and the race ran its full 71 laps. Fisi might've had to make a splash and dash as he said afterwards that his fuel strategy was "on the limit." I thought Raikkonen would've gone to the end on fuel as his car was tanked during his pitstop, but his much older tyres meant that Coulthard would've probably passed him for the lead. 3rd place is an interesting one and I reckon it would've gone to Villeneuve as like Raikkonen, he was also fuelled to the end, unlike Alonso and Frentzen. Incidentally, Frentzen went through the whole race without making a single stop.
