Lovely:) My father enlisted during the 1965 war. He and his friends had just graduated from DOW in Karachi at that time. My father was sent to the frontlines, near Khaimkeran. The stories he would tell :) His friend was posted in Lahore. He would tell my father that he was protecting my mom, as she was in Lahore at that time and my father and her had just gotten engaged :) These stories are important. They may not seem like much but they make up who we are.

Thank you very much, Saba. the stories are indeed important and need to be told. In October 1965 I and a few other friends went with an army captain to Khem Karan. I was 13 and this was my first "foreign trip", if I may call it that.

@@odysseuslahori The commanding officer at that time was Ali Kuli Khan. My father ran into him many years later, when Mr Khan was a general. My father spoke how, after the war, the army bade farewell to him and the other doctors who had volunteered at that time. Spoke of rose petals at the train station :) so lovely.

Very interesting.I remember Raheel Sharif in the 60s when he was a teenager.Came to our house in Garden Town on a scooter to drop one of his reletives.He showed me his scooter with quite interest

Kamaal karde o tussi! The narration of these anecdotes is brilliant! The humour, the sudden shift to Punjabi, everything just chimes in so well, reminds me of my sweet mother tongue & my motherland which lives in me. Your style of narration also reminds of my nana Rehmat Ali Chaudhary who passed away just before I moved to the UK to pursue astronomy. He was a government employee in Samanabad college & used to cycle daily from Eminabad to Lahore. I dearly miss spending time with him & listening to his stories, but that's just the beauty of life. Mahid from Daroghawala, Baghbanpura, Lahore.

The plate he wore on his chest just said Sharif. And sometimes I get a little confused myself. Was it really sharif? You see, all that happened in March or April 1978. that's a very long time ago.

My brother in law was also 49th PMA. He became POW in bengal. Don't remember if he was in 9 punjab or 34 punjab, can't confirm as he has parkinsons now.

No sir. 49 PMA could not have been in East Pakistan. The last course to be sent to Bengal was 47 PMA. My course-mate Lt Col Javed Mujtaba is 9 Punjab.

Was it Major Sharif malal?I don't remember the regiment but he was average height, fair& thin He too was recalled for 71' war spent some time in East Pakistan with a FF unit under Brig mian Taskinudin and spent his later years in Rawalpindi There can't be two Major sharifs with such matching similarities.
