Good Video! Today I had a hard time in training while I tried to apply a nykio out of a tai sabaki. The nykio itself was not the problem, but I did not manage to lead my uke in the right position. Do you have any tipps?
@MartialArtsJourney
@MartialArtsJourney 7 жыл бұрын
There are many possibilities. I always suggest people to send me a video of them doing the technique, then I could say more precisely, yet the problem you are mentioning can be connected to either not "giving space" or not being clear enough

Lovely explanation. Rokas-Sensei, can you do a video about the different styles of aikido that we have today? I am specifically interested in Shin Shin Toitsu aikido as this is what I am prospecting. There is a high ranking sensei near my town and I'm weighing the pros and cons at the moment :)

Thanks for the great videos. One way to look at Nikkyo is that there is a atemi towards the head. Looking down at the opponents hand can be less than safe?
@MartialArtsJourney
@MartialArtsJourney 8 жыл бұрын
Hi, Mastaneh. I appreciate your question. Actually, this video is meant specifically as an aid to understand Nikyo for people who struggle with it or want to understanding in another way. It's not meant to be shown as "the perfect way to do it", so there are some conscious "mistakes" there, which help in learning but should be forgotten later, including the looking at the hand of the opponent :)

+Leandro Monteiro My pleasure. The Dojo used to be named "Aikido Siauliai", since it's located in Siauliai city (Lithuania), but we renamed it to Dodžo this year. Is it possible for a more detailed advanced ukemi video? Pls do upload more ukemi videos. Have learnt plenty form your videos and I thank you for that sensei Rokas, have become a big fan. Every time I try to do the ukemi in your video I assume I can do it but when I actually try it... Pain started to come. How do I really do it ??
@MartialArtsJourney
@MartialArtsJourney 8 жыл бұрын
+Zhi Qi Wong The most detailed video is this one: bit.ly/1M8z3ld, but you probably seen it already. It's very important to not learn ukemi through pain, because that builds psychological tension which then leads to physical tension and thus - more pain. It's important to keep repeating and mastering the more simple exercises until you really master them and then to move on to the next one when you are ready. Which exercise is for you most difficult right now? You could maybe film yourself doing it and then I could tell you your mistakes. That could help
@MartialArtsJourney

How to get over fear of falling sensei Rokas ?
@MartialArtsJourney
@MartialArtsJourney 8 жыл бұрын
+Zhi Qi Wong Hi, well, you simply have to get comfortable at connecting with the mat (tatami). First start off very low, just doing super simple rolls, more "children" like, anything, no matter how it looks, as long as it doesn't hurt and feel good. Then slowly start lifting the height and continue to experiment, again, with no painful rolls. In this way, your body and your psychology will slowly get used to falling as a natural and safe action and then you can learn basics with it. Right now, your mind is simply afraid of falling because it doesn't know what to do when falling. If you will continue having trouble let me know, maybe we can have a skype call and then I can explain it better. Sincerely, RokasLeo

It's one of the most painful locks in Aikido - and it doesn't take much to bring on the pain. That's why ukes tend to drop to their knees (to relieve the pressure) very quickly.

Everyone wants to be an instant super expert master in five seconds without practice, musical masters practice 8 hours a day or more, theory scales, reading, finger exercises etc. etc. what must i do to become as good as you??? i must practise practise practise until it becomes body memory and second nature. if you are doing Aikido to hurt people forget the practice and buy a gun...ooops sorry more practise..... now you must learn safety, ( No good shooting yourself or loved ones accidently ) learn to disassemble and reassemble it, how to handle the gun, how to breath before you fire, etc.etc. how to aim and practice or the gun is no good when you miss the target. practise practise. if you just want to hurt people ...study Hittler and Pol Pot or Pooh tin. Aikido and most other martial arts should first be about mastery of testosterone egos and self which is a by-product of practise. I am a bit thick and don't always learn or understand straight away the reasons for certain techniques and then one day it clicks, the light comes on and all falls into place. boring practise repetition and learning are the foundations and framework the rest of your aikido ( or any house) is built on, make it strong so you have something you can be proud of. A Special thanks to you Rokas Sensei for sharing your knowledge and time to make these videos , I wish you all the very best in your martial arts journey in what ever disciplines you wish to explore. respect and peace from new zealand.

No, strikes are always faster than any hold - you need to step out and put an atemi yourself too! If you have a strong nikyo grap, you are quiet a lucky guy - in my opinion thats not safe enough.

Aikido technique is a tool. Not a complete self-defense method. You need to punch and kick, use what is coming at you. You need to have real problems and get the adrenaline rush. You need to fail at it. Very few techniques are control. Most should break you. That if you are strong enough. Solid enough. Fast enough. You need to peacefully to grab your chance. Violence is chaos. You are control. It goes out quick. Have you ever got your chance to hurt anywone or are you afraid of hurting someone? Some prefer to have rules in a sport situation? Training hard is essential. No guns warriors era are long gone. With martial arts, one move is design and studied to be enough. No sport. One chance.
