And this wasn't last time he belts the sh*t out as this performance. There's some video/audio audicence recordings from '84-'87 where he kicks ass, my favourites (if someone wanna check them) are Detroit '84, Pittsburgh '85, Michigan '86 and Houston '86. Rock on!

This band was absolutely amazing with Geoff Tate on vocals and Chris DeGarmo on lead guitar.
@kwantoon

They were operating on a different level entirely. The original line up was incredible as they were all great musicians, but Tate and DeGarmo set them worlds apart from 95% of the other of that genre during that time. I was pretty young when I first heard them and I remember how it moved me, it was almost as though it changed my entire perception of what music could be. I will never get tired of this stuff, for me it's absolutely timeless
@chriswiedeman2956

@@kwantoon Amen to that! Their initial EP release blew my mind when I was in high school and I was instantly hooked. I actually knew Mike Stone in the mid 80's, who replaced DeGarmo on guitar eventually. But, the band was never the same. At least it's fun to tell friends that the guitarist of Queensryche installed a pickup in my guitar once : )

He was in his high belt for a majority of the song - impressive. Cleanly hit 3 E5’s during the song and 2 of the 3 were sustained - impressive. The ability to switch quickly from his chest to his head/mixed voice without any loss of tone quality - impressive. Quite the performance and if you were lucky enough to see them live at some point you know they were the real deal.

Everything you said about Queensryche, their music, the tightness of the band and each member, Geoff's VOCALS, and your response to them, is EXACTLY the way I've been feeling about them for the last 3+ decades!! I still smile every time I hear this song. Ear to ear. You are having a visceral response to their particular brand of musical alchemy! I love songs that make me FEEL something -- and THEIR songs do! Don't stop now! Another good one (and there are so many) is "The Killing Words" from MTV's Unplugged 1992. Also, for another high energy one, "Speak" is good! It's from the concept album, "Operation: Mindcrime" which is one long story. So you won't get the full meaning of the lyrics unless you listen to the whole album. Still, it's a great song with vocals in both the high and low ranges. I loved your excitement about this song! And yes, they weren't about showing off or grandstanding. They were about making good songs! P.S. Yes, they were young in this one. Geoff was about 25, and the others were about 20! "Finger-licking good". Oh YEAH!

Geoff was too good in his younger days. So much so that people these days hold him to an impossible standard. His younger self. The guy was around 24/25 when this was shot. He's 64 this year. He's definitely still got it and is a vocal force to be reckoned with, but he's also not 24 anymore. Male voices deepen/get richer as we age. Back then he was delivering a studio perfect vocal performance. These days his performances of those songs are far from studio perfect, but they're damn close enough on a good day.

So glad you reacted to this song. I saw them as the opening act to Dio in the UK and the same year (1984 ) this concert was filmed. I have been a massive Queensryche fan ever since.

I have seen Queensryche multiple times as I grew up and they always amazed me. I have many favorite songs by them and they always provoked amazing emotion in me. A good one for you to listen to is "I will remember" off their rage for order cd but specifically listen to the Mtv unplugged version a very stripped down version that just showcases the stellar talents these guys had.

Saw them on the Empire tour. Geoff is incredible live. They just blew up with "Silent Lucidity" so the goofy new fans booed Suicidal Tendencies who were awesome too.

Saw them twice that tour and don't recall any booing. Did make the mistake of getting too close to the stage in Green Bay and wound up in the pit when ST took the stage. Backed out and all was good.

@@jamie4993 very cool. I saw them in Memphis, TN. Not a lot of brain cells there you know? I DID see some of the greatest bands of all-time in their prime in Memphis though. The Queensryche show was one of the shows where the fans were lame.

The song "Roads To Madness" from this same concert is equally as amazing.

I was lucky to see 4/5 of the original Queensryche line-up in concert, and they were one of the best live bands I have ever experienced 🤘🤘 Even though Geoff Tate (vocals) was past his prime vocally... he wasn't doing those high screams optimally anymore, but he was great. It's sad that Tate took Queensryche in a weird rock direction before he was fired... and then drummer Scott Rockenfield left in 2017 and never came back... 2/5 of the original band are still there (guitarist Michael Wilton and bassist Eddie Jackson) w/ Todd LaTorre (vocals)... Casey Grillo (drums) has been added to the line-up... Longtime guitarist Parker Lundgren left after the pandemic... guitarist Mike Stone (who was in Queensryche for a few years from 2003 to 2008) has returned to the band. Check out more Queensryche - 'Roads to madness' ... 'Walk in the shadows'... "I don't believe in love"... 'The lady wore black'... 'Anybody listening?'... 🤘🤘🔥🔥

Yes, yes, yes. And never forget to play play Operation Mindcrime when you're feeling a bit low (or feeling happy (doesn't matter) (a bit of a dark story, but better than all the movies since > 2000s Such a beautiful wicked band. Saw them the first time when I was a toddler in the Low Countries. Happy days. & Happy New Year & keep up the brilliant work. You bring joy to us.
