I really like how you start out with a simple motif and keep developing them, as in repeating them, doing variation, adding to them(call& response) rhythmically displacing them. I feel that as a music student, the art of playing simple and playing "musically" can often get lost when people focus too much on trying to do all the crazy things they can do over some chord changes.

I’m a guitarist and I remember Steve Lukather once saying..’You’re only ever a semi tone away from the right note’. Very wise as a guitarist can bend it to make it right.

This is a great demonstration that the instrument is NOT the piano. You are using your voice and your brain housing unit -- engaging with the progression. There's a difference between "hearing what you play" and "playing what you hear"! You clearly do the latter. Nicely done!

As someone who has never studied more than the simple blues scale, seeing this was crazy. That was great insight into how the jazz I appreciate listening to so much can work in the musician's mind, especially executing different ideas so well on the fly. Just love watching you improvise, cause your ability to shape the music into the way you want with such diversity is something I'm very jealous of and I truly appreciate you explaining those musical thoughts and ideas in short phrases. Makes me feel like jazz is not impossible but is something quite far out there. Thanks a lot!

This is great! Starting from a simple idea or motif and progressing into more advanced forms offers great learning opportunity for every one, from beginners to more advanced players. I really like the way you break down these scales to assemble these nice notes into complete groups of ideas... Yet, things start to get very challenging very quickly at 9:54~ 11:06 😊 Thanks so much for taking the time to do this.

Aimee - this is SOOO good. The flow of ideas is constant there is so much to learn from this... you have a great musical mind... but above all I find this so enjoyable to listen to.. I am a guitarist.. so yeah this was one of Carlos's trademark chord changes to jam on.. so I can appreciate how much creativity and musicality and how you can get boxed in and start to get repetitive on this.. but your musical vocabulary is so vast that you find new areas to adventure into.. absolutely love these .. keep em coming.. please!!

Great thumbnail 😂 I think the singing while "miming" the notes you're singing on the piano is probably one of the most valuable concepts in this whole video! I've incorporated singing everything I play to an almost nauseating degree over the past 15 years or so but it's SO important. Hopefully folks DO try this at home 😛 Aaaand you're "gettin your groove on" now so I think I'll go back to listening 😎 Great vid!

viii I just realized this is just like "Classical" music: improvised for 30 minutes. This is not an exercise, it's genius ...truly. I only need to hear an exercise or lick once or twice , this is melodically contiguous command of choice. I'm easily going to get to the L's, and C's.
