Spine mobility is critical for correct Tai Chi movements. If you suffer from stiff back and back pain, these spine mobility exercises can be a life changer. These exercises increase the strength and flexibility of your spine, back and core for optimum spine health. Improving your spine’s mobility is key to relaxing a tense and stiff back. A relaxed back and spine is also crucial to maintaining the proper alignment and positioning for Tai Chi.
These spine exercises are adapted from the Twelve Dynamics Tai Chi training system, developed by Dr. Changnian Zhang, professor of martial arts at Capitol Sports University in Beijing. We are the only martial arts school outside of China that teaches Dr. Zhang’s Twelve Dynamics curriculum.

These exercises during our Saturday session were miraculous! I haven't been able to crack that area of my spine for YEARS and it happened on its own shortly after we ended. Felt so liberating. Crazy!

I actually do a very similar exercise, call it the oil well pump 🙂. It's the same wave-like movement, and it helps to relieve acute pain.

Thank you my back and waist has hurt for year and while do tai chi it hurt worse because I think I was going in to far and also trying to flatten my but

You definitely have to go gentle so you don't overdue it. Increase your range in small increments so you don't hurt your back. Good luck!

This wavebody mechanics training in particular has helped me alot. Ive been learning baguazhang in a more traditional setting and information is not given out freely. Sometime alot of the internal principles are very hard to see and harder yet to determine if you are doing them correctly.

Thank you for your videos! How many reps should be performed regarding the segmented movements, and how many reps should be performed with the segments combined as one movement?

Thank you ❤️🙏 These movements are a bit intense. Less reps with full range of motion is better than more reps with incomplete range of motion. Starting off with 3 reps each direction is good and working up from there. No need to more than 8 reps.
