ISO 46 is comparable to an S.A.E. 20W. S.A.E. 30W is comparable to an ISO 100 oil. Your demonstration confirms that 20W oil flows better than 30W when cold.

You’re right Steve, people do shop with their wallets and up here in Northern Ontario that doesn’t always work especially when we need something like an air compressor to work in cold temperatures. Thanks for the knowledge Buddy! 👊🏻

Hi Doug I bet they sell a lot more of everything affected by the cold where you live , synthetic will save the machine from the affects of cold weather and save your wallet too :)

Thanks Steve, good comparison my YT friend. I use synthetic in my compressors and my emergency generator (not the same oil though) and I am sold on synthetic.

Another great video U clearly can see that also when ur gets really hot synthetic will not thin out like regular oil will So we’re my compressor is in my house 65-70f I run plain 30 non degret oil I had synthetic stuff like wat u showed thin and flows nice but only $8-$9 at homedepot U just get half the amouth vs the sae 30 I have hose ran out to garage so I don’t have heat noise

I use an electric Porter Cable pancake compressor. Pretty cool how much you know Steve. Big pour difference for sure. Did you see the sludge in Wyattoneable's truck rear end? Happy Mothers Day to Mrs. Rob!

I picked up one of these at the dump that had a bead pressure switch. was a good score. swapped it out and new oil and away she went. been running it a couple years now.

How's she goin'? My compressor I bought a year or so ago came with regular compressor oil. I found in the winter, and my sop isn't heated, the compressor would start and then trip the O/L because the oil was so thick and heavy the motor couldn't turn up to speed quick enough!! I was putting a magnetic oil pan heater on the compressor so I could start it. I think I better switch to synthetic oil eh!! Thanks for sharing this Steve and have a great week!!!

My compressor manual said to use synthetic so that's what I've always used. I use sythetic oil in my Miata but not the Jetta. The Miata only gets driven in summer and the Jetta all year round. Go figure, I never claimed to be bright lol

i have a King Compressor, which I may use at slightly colder temps, not below 0C, but cold. It says SAE 30, non detergent. The CTire synthetic one you I don't think it says "non detergent".... do you think that would be an issue?

Well I bought ios46 but the air compressor manufacturer have decided to stop making the iOS. 32 and this is why u full synthetic oil easy start times and that thick stuff is will guaranteed to be seized up

According to Makita and the manual for the Mac700 compressor, the supplied oil is ISO 68 for use in temps of: (33.8F to 78.8F) and is SAE 20W. For lower temperatues it would take ISO 46. I'm in Florida (in Summer) and the manual recommends ISO 100 for use in temps of: (80.6 and higher) and is SAE 30. The ISO rating has nothing to do with the oil being Dino or Synthetic. However, absolutely NO multi-viscosity or detergent oils should ever be used. Hope this helps!

Been using 5w-40 engine oil in my copresor for years since i cant realy get syntetic stuff and it dosent like the regular stuff in the cold

Hi again long time- what about running my 20 and 30G compressors in the hot sun constant - Been using regular plain Jane compressor oil since 2005 but the world seems stoked (media brainwash?) on synthetic. Gotta do an oil change.

I think if you change out the oil often reg oil is just fine but in real cold temps I go with synthetic. Cheers 👍
